Do you mind briefly explaining the "mental" row on the scorecard?

Hey man, yeah, it's part of the preshot pyramid that Doc Michael Lardon came up with. Every time you successfully do the full PSP routine, you get a mental stroke. The idea is that as your mental score gets higher, your actual scores get lower. So for example in the above round I had a 92%. Which is good but it's not great. You always want to shoot for a hundred. On rounds that I virtually give up, the mental strokes are in the 70% range. Check out the book, Mastering Golfs Mental Game by Dr Michael Lardon for more info. It's a great resource for improving your mental game.

On a side note, I'm in Denver and I played a few rounds with Brianhorne8, thaar and Joelness and although we ended up leaving early because of the weather I had a blast! These guys are great and the courses are so pure out here. And another barrier broke whilst out here.

I'm officially trending back into a sub-10 index ! With my high being 11.4 and my low being 9.9, it's been six months since I've been in single digit range and just about a year since my low index of 6.5. I'm optimistic that the past few changes I've made are for the better.

As for equipment related changes, I picked up a Rogue Silver 70X for my 3HL to try that in and I've also picked up a Rogue Silver 60X  Rip I/O to test out for driver. Played it for the first time on Friday and it was a huge improvement over the stock shaft in the first round. I was killing the ball, but during my second round I couldn't quite hit it the same way. Still more testing to be had so we'll see what happens going forward.

Lastly, I had a great experience with Dan Weitzel out here which I'll update about later.

(PIC HEAVY)

Well! Long time no post, harrr. A lot has happened! Some good and some not so good.I am happy to say that I no longer am hating life being employed in the Insurance industry. However, during this transition, I lost motivation for everything, including golf. I had a four month break with virtually no golf, sold all my golf stuff and legit didn't even think want to even think about golf. Since then I have been able to pick myself up and managed to get my CompTIA A+ certification but haven’t solidified any IT job quite yet other than a second shift, month to month contract job. Gladly though,a month ago, I was recruited to a telematics company called Geotab for a role as a Tier 2 Product Support Specialist. I am pretty excited because I start out with an 8-5 schedule but after training I have a chance to graduate to an early in and early out schedule, which means more golf time! And as of this past week, I'm officially on a 6AM to 3PM schedule so I'm going to try and practice after work 2-3 times a week and come summer, late spring, I'll try to play 2-3 times a week. I'm not only ecstatic that my golfing motivation is been reignited but I'm also really happy that I am in a environment with a lot more than three people where I can really just be myself. It's also extremely busy all day every day, it's nuts but I'm getting the hang of it and days fly by. I'm making my best effort to be a positive thinker with an extremely open mind because it's my first time in a large office environment and there are about 120+ employees in all the departments combined. If I started this job in the mindset I left my prior job at, I would not be in a good spot.

A long with all that, a HUGE legal issue is now behind my wife and I and after some discussion, I have been able to reignite my golfing motivation with a completely rebuilt bag!

Let the pics rain!

Driver; Ping G LST 9° with a Graphite Design AD BB 6x untipped and Lamkin UTx solid blue. In June of 2016 I had a driver fitting done at Aloha Golf Center and was fit to an AD DI but didn’t have the budget to get it but after talking to numerous fitters, they recommended I go with the BB due to my swing speed and it being on the fence of getting balloons with the driver so I am going to take a shot in the dark with this one!

My two headcovers:
I need to replace the eye on my Sunfish knit one but I love my boys!

UDI; Srixon U65 3iron with the stock Miyazaki 7X and Lamkin UTx in solid blue. I haven’t been able to find a hybrid that I really like and hit well and with so many solid reviews, I decided to try it. I must say that I am thoroughly impressed with this club. I have never hit a UDI before but this club is so easy to hit and has a fantastic static weight as well as swing weight to it. I am super interested in how well it’ll workout on course with the abundance of lies I have.

It also came with this cheesy headcover, lol. I used it at first but decided to not use it.

Irons; Srixon z765 4-AW with C Taper Lite X and Lamkin UTx in solid blue. The cream of the crop right here! The only irons to ever make me say, “Wow” outloud after I hit the first shot as well as the only irons that make me say, "Hot damn!", outloud similar to when I see Paige Spirinac post another pic on her IG  :air_kiss: , lol. I recently did an iron fitting with Dan Weitzel in Colorado and he gave me some really good insight on my swing and club makeup. In a nut shell he told me that my old clubs “sucked”  for my swing, lol. He also mentioned I was losing yards because of what I was using so I decided to go with his recommendation to see how it works out.

Wedges; Callaway Mack Daddy 3 Milled wedges with C-Taper Lite X and Lamkin UTx Masters Green grips in 56° (bent to 55°) and 60°. Unlike the rest of my bag, I chose these with no real rhyme or reason except that they felt fantastic and offered a good amount of forgiveness. I chose to match the shafts with my irons as I have never tried that before so hopefully it works out. The only detail I was on the fence with was soft stepping these to have a slightly softer flex but after some chatting with a local fitter, I decided to just keep them standard for now but I may change it later. I also had an unfortunate accident with my 56 during my first round a few weeks ago. It was in 30+ mph winds and I hit a great 4i on a Par 3 at Rhodes Ranch and thought it was good but then the wind gusted, grabbed out of the air and push it 30 yards right into some dirt where my ball landed and came to a stop on top of an embedded rock, lame. I proceeded to hit the ball clean but too far and it went into the water after that, lol. Doubled that hole unfortunately. Also, I LOVE this Masters edition green, it's money!

This is the only club from my old bag I kept. It’s my money maker and still one of the best golf purchases I have made to date.

Bag; 2017 Ogio Silencer Stand Bag in slate grey.  Since having an Ogio Chamber Silencer bag prior to my TM bag, I REALLY missed it so I decided to go back to it. My two gripes are that it’s got a weird divider setup but with the help of another thread, I'm happy with its organization. The other gripe is it’s heavy as a mofo compared to other bags.

Lastly, I am stoked to see that my home course, The Legacy GC opened back up. From what I hear, they have to remain open for 50 years from X date, I want to say 1984 or something but I can’t remember. So that’ll help with practice and eventual play too!

My primary goals this year are to:
1. Get back to single digit as the last time I had it calculated it was 10.4
2. Once single digit, get back down to my PB index of 6.5
3. Beat my PB round of +5

All attainable if I can just get my tee game in order. Drew and I were joking the other day that I should play his tee shots and he should play my tee shots just to see what we end up shooting, lol. That would be so fun and I hope we can do that in the summer when he can play more.

Thanks for following my journey, hope you enjoyed this update and will be updating more as things progress.

Welcome back! :drinks: The bag looks solid. The 765's are really nice. I was fit into those back in September, but never pulled the trigger being so late in the year for me. I'll be testing them again in a couple weeks against all the new irons. All thats left for you is to update your fancy signature and beat Drew like a :deadhorse:

I totally forgot about that, lol. I'm gonna make sure to get that done today.

I'm going to keep gaming the B330S. I feel like it's the perfect ball for my game, even more so with this new setup. My worst miss with the driver I have seen was still a ball in play and it was a push slice. Although we'll see if that holds up when I have more rounds under my belt.

I've been wanting the z765s since I hit them at GG a few years ago. I'm glad I pulled the trigger on them, they're less forgiving than my RSi2's but the feel is soooooo much better and it's definitely going to force me to practice more with em. The other thing is the feedback is so much better, I know exactly where I hit the ball on the face on misses as opposed to the RSi2s when on occasion, I really didn't know. I also feel like the long irons are so much easier and more consistent to hit.

Great setup and pics!

Looking forward to hearing about the BB... Picked up the same shaft for my M2, but won't be able to swing it for a few more months.

Thanks man, I’ll post a more in depth review when I get 10 rounds under my belt but so far, it feels like a more refined, stable and all around better Rogue Silver I/O. That was a great shaft but got a little loose at time causing the ball to just spin through the roof. The BB  still goes plenty high from what I am seeing. I am excited to see what the actual stats are when Drew and i get some SIM rounds in.

I'm liking what I'm hearing! Have you tried the 125 Rogue Tour X? I also picked one of those bad boys up during a spell of EUI (Ebaying Under the Influence) to battle it out with the Blue Bullet. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I havenít but I have heard really good things about it. Iíd be curious to take a few swings to have a quick comparison of feel versus the BB.

Since last September, I havenít wanted to think about golf. Since I got my new clubs Iíve been focusing on two things in the mirror and when I am practicing. Take away and external rotation on the downswing transition. I am seeing a lot of positive in my swing on the range from it and today, my fifth round back after my lay off, it was transferred to the course.

604395D8-2F51-4F0E-8C13-C240602DF5AD.png 0179996E-4A9D-4AAF-AFAA-0B96E31AFCDF.png

6 over after 16 and I basically blew a gasket on 17. I donged my drive down wind on a 496 Par 5 and had 176 to the hole. Chunked my 7i with a slight push right into a butthole forty yard bunker. There was absolutely no sand in there and hit the ball over the green, thought it was in the water but stayed up. Chunk pulled my chip and bounced off the fringe and rolled back onto the bunker on my left side. Same thing on the next sand shot as the prior sand shot but a little better. Rolled down the front side of the green and I finally managed to hit a good chip four feet to the hole and make the putt.

No doubt in my mind that I should have broken 80 today but all I can do is chalk it up to a learning experience and move on.

Also, I am blown away by how going with previous fitting recommendations have improved my consistency and I am really excited for whatís to come with that consistency.

Overall, a good day and a lot of positives to take away from today. I am gonna really focus on my tee game going forward and will post some swing vids next week as next week I am going to start playing 2-3 times a week!

Finally! I was planning on posting a swing vid this week but I was LAID OUT last weekend with a 100 degree fever/viral infection and have been recovering all week. I finally feel like a solid 90% and ended up playing with Drew yesterday. Had a good start with a birdie the first hole and was one over after eight. Then I just blew up the rest of the round. My tee game was such trash, mainly my driver. I can say though that the 3w setup is the best 3w I have ever had. I DESTROYED the par 5s. Driver-3w-up and down on the first, driver-3w-wedge-wedge-putt on the second, 3w-3w to 60ft-putt-putt (In Stenson style) and finally driver-3w-chip-putt. Best I have ever done on Par 5s for a single round and itís definitely because of the shots I hit with 3w, they were key. I am seeing some good stuff but yeah, not swinging the club in two weeks didnít help consistency. All in all, made some good swings. I am gonna give the BB a few months but just based on how well I am hitting the DI over the BB, I might end up selling the BB and getting a DI for the driver. Donít get me weong, the dispersion is 100x better than any driver I have had. My carry is longer and my apexes are higher just unsure of it. I know I can hit it well but itís how often I do is the thing. Anyway, now that I am no longer sick, expect some swing vids next week. 0CEBEE13-3238-4F50-8A78-F3CA2532854E.jpeg CFB9860B-76A1-4D13-9F3C-DACCBC5436D4.jpeg

Happy Masters Sunday folks! Wish I knew someone having a viewing party to get sauced at, lol.

Finally at 95-97% with a lurking cough but was able to get out last Tuesday for a practice day with my Corporate Challenge team along with some swing vids. Let me preface this with when I played Arroyo last weekend with Drew, we paired up with a single who finished last year around a 1.4 index and he noticed something that I do during putting and chipping causing me to be inconsistent: see these two chipping videos:

FO chip

DTL

After watching it, the issue I was having was on the transition, I was turning my head way left, the videos above it wasn't as bad but it was definitely causing me to be inconsistent with my chips and starting the ball left a lot of the time while putting.

Here's my driver vids:
FO

DTL

With the driver, the first thing I noticed was I went back to having a little arm overrun so after watching that, I made an effort to shorten that up. After talking with Drew about it, he recommended I narrow my stance about an inch to be able to use the lower body better and to get that wrist from neutral to extended to more wrist flexion as it's causing me to have an open face at P6 and occasionally throwing my hands at the ball causing inconsistent contact.   Along with that we talked about adding the feeling of my hand going away from my left shoulder on the transition. So my driving is definitely a WIP, lol.

I didn't take any iron videos since my primary focus is improving my tee game and with that being said; I played yesterday at Rhodes Ranch versus a 20mph wind and had a pretty solid round considering I have always had a terrible wind game
4B9BC1D6-A663-480D-8DAD-806D253FC53A.jpeg 4AA4F4A9-63EB-4FA1-9C5B-C39639CEF667.jpeg

My main focuses during practice were:
1. Keep a sturdy head while putting and chipping
2. Narrowing my stance with my driver
3. Feeling my hands go further away from my left shoulder in transition
4. And I was also testing something I saw while watching a Chris Ryan video the other day with regards to setup. Where you just grab the club with your left hand and setup normal while holding your right arm outward like a bird and then tilting away from the target and grabbing the club.

I felt like #4 really helped the consistency of my ball striking especially with the driver. I missed a ton of fairways but there were only really two drives that I can think off that cost me some strokes. The rest were no harm no foul. I should have taken a video of my driver swing while on the course. I was definitely hitting the ball longer and better than I ever have. Had yardages on some holes that I have never had before at Rhodes. Would have loved to compare todays driver swing to the last video I took.

Lastly, had my first instance of major highway robbery on ten. I smoked my drive and caught a crappy bounce causing me to hit my second shot from the dirt left of my cart path. I had 113 to a back pin and calculated about 133 with the wind. So I grabbed a PW and pured it on a good line and I am like, "Ohh, that looks good." I watch the ball all the way and it hits the bottom of the pin and bounces all the way to the front of a green, lol. End up two putting for par from 70 feet. I was in complete disbelief.

Again though, I am seeing some really good progress with my game and optimistic of what's to come.

Sounds like you need a G400

Haha! That's a big negative Ghost Rider. I love the feel and sound of the G LST! I wasn't a huge fan of how the G400 felt and sounded. I just couldn't hit it good.

Rob! I was just thinking about you earlier this week! Glad to see you're back. I need to revisit the mental game books you recommended and some of those putting games you suggested as well. I too had to take some time off to study for a certification, but am excited to be playing again. I'm glad to hear things are going well for you.

Pretty awesome you ended up getting a new bag. Those 765's are sexy! Despite saying I wasn't going to buy any new equipment this year, I picked up the new Rogue driver with Evenflow shaft last week (I'm a sucker for demo days apparently), and I love it...just wish it didn't snap yesterday at the range lol. Hopefully Callaway doesn't take too long to fix it.

Hope I can make it out to Vegas at some point this year so we can get a round in. Cheers!

Hahah, classic WRX ho. I don’t plan on doing anything to my bag for the next eight months or so and if I end up doing anything I am gonna softstep my wedges and possibly change the BB to the DI but that is looking extremely slim at this point. I am killing the ball when I hit the BB solid. It’s amazing me. My dispersion has easily been cut in half from what it was.  Thanks man, I love those 765s. They feel so good and look so damn sexy. It’s f****** amazing. When are you looking to get out to Vegas?

I was looking to go to Michigan or something with PepsiDuck on a golf trip but we are still uncertain on where we are gonna go.

Also! WTF! How’d you snap your driver?

Not sure on Vegas right now...I was out there recently but it was for a funeral unfortunately, so no golf then lol. Our schedule is pretty packed right now, but maybe thanksgiving. Michigan has some pretty awesome courses on the west side of the state and up north.

And no idea how the driver snapped. My beastly 105mph swing speed was too much for it lol. I heard crackling on my follow through to find that the driver head was just dangling. It was a pretty sad moment! I played this weekend, and while I hit my old 913 pretty well, I could definitely tell a difference between the two. Hopefully Callaway doesn't take too long to get it back to me.

Beautiful day on Saturday and I just couldnít perform, flatout. No excuses. It was a struggle all damn day.

85E1B3AA-32A5-400F-AFF9-0D88EE4F4237.jpeg 93CD3983-9C5D-4C22-827A-6AD4647C9CB7.png

My first double came on the third hole. For whatever reason, I wasn't hitting my 3w like I have been and duffed it off the tee. Had 187 with a slight breeze, duffed my six iron. Next shot, thinned my PW to the back of the green. Hit a good chip but a little strong and rolled way passed the hole. Two putt from there.

Next one was a bullcrap double. Lost my tee shot right even though we all saw it land in the area we were searching. It connects with the second hole and yet somehow we couldnít find it. Dropped, had about 190. Six iron to left rough. Hit a great pitch to the flag but caught a crappy bounce off a slope and two putt from there.

My third double was on 9, hit a donger tee shot but caught the bunker. Tried to just go for the green over the water but caught it on the toe and landed into the water. Even though I had just gotten done telling my buddy that this bunker normally means you have to punch oht short of the water. Dropped in the drop area and hit a good pitch but couldn't drop the 15ft putt I had, two putt.

Fourth double was just stupid. Donged my tee shot. Had 94 to the pin, thinned my wedge over the green. Ball was on a severe downslope so I angled my shoulders and hit a good shot but it caught the very very edge of the thick rough and that took all the speed off of it. From here, I lost myself and blasted my 36ft putt by the hole to the point I hit the putt 33 ft passed the hole. Two putt from there, double.

Fifth one, I hit a great 7i on a par 3, but it started left and went further left. Hit a great pitch but got an unlucky bounce forward and three putted from 40ft.

Six double, sliced my drive on 18. Was in some thick rough, hit a great 5i but caught the greenside bunker. Played it safe and ended up short if the green, then three putt from there.

I hit a lot of great shots but my play was so spotty, it was terrible. My execution was trash on a lot of shots. I can't honestly say I can narrow it down to just one thing because it was a multitude of things but if I had to say, I just couldnít execute like I have been the past few rounds. Nothing that some more trigger time canít cure.

Yikes, that sucks man. Hopefully next time you’ll be back for a positive reason! Hahah, that is so ridiculous. I hope Cally get’s you that replacement fast. Sounds like it’s a noticeable different.

I have looked at some great looking courses out there but we’ll see. We were talking about going to Bandon too but everything is still up in the air. Hell, I wouldn’t mind going back to Colorado either. You guys have beautiful courses if the weather holds, unlike when we played GVR, lol.

:cheesy: It went from pure beauty to 50mph winds, rain and lightning in a matter of a hole and a half, lol. It was that lightning strike that was less than a half mile away that really got me thinking. :fie:

Had a rough mental day today. I don't know what happened. Woke up feeling great, grabbed some coffee and got to the range. Chunked my 8 of my first 10 wedges. It wasn't a random chunk though, it was a consistent just behind the ball like a bunker shot. It got my thinking. Then I kept pulling everything with my driver. Long story shot, started 10-7-6-7 and was mind blown. I grabbed some wine on the turn and calmed down on the back. Shot a +4 with two birdies. Two things I tested today, speeding up my backswing and stopping the reverse K move. Together, they helped a lot but man, what a day. It was such a beautiful freakin' day and I just couldn't take advantage.

I'm thinking of joining that courses "Advantage club"

Talked to the pro shop and apparently it's $15 after 2PM, and the course is in great condition. I might just go that route and make that my home course. I'm pretty close to the freeway entrance and it will probably take me ten minutes to get to the course from my work. Haven't 100% decided on, but I definitely need to figure it out because I am tired of having these ridiculous rounds when I know I can play better.

I was talking to my playing partner and it might have been an OD on coffee because I got a Harbucks cold brew but I'm not sure. I got super annoyed after the first hole. What do you guys think?

The other two things is I bought the book, "The inner game of golf" and decided, even though $70 is an atrocious price to pay, to buy "TheHanger", I feel it's exactly what I need to practice the take away, transition and my crappy a** short game. We'll see how it goes and I'll post my feedback on both when I finish them.

Rob, don't waste your money on thehanger. $70 is a bit nuts for that. Just Google hangergolf drills and use a regular hanger.
