Just got 5 6 packs from Dicks. A ridiculous deal.

Edit: I got 5, not 10.

Listen to yourselves! you're hoarders! Srixon believes they have a superior ball and they are asking golfers to try 6, a very fair sample for 10 bucks ($15in Canada) but everyone on this post is defeating the purpose by hoarding as many balls as you can, when you don't even know if they're better or not, in the dead of winter,  Srixon should have limited these to 1 per customer, because now a few people who probably don't even golf have all the balls

There is no way they expected people to only buy 1 at that price.

But yes, I am a hoarder.

If Srixon cared, wouldn't they have set a limit? So—If Srixon doesn't care (or DSG, WWGS, PGATSS, etc.) why do you care?

Maybe you didn't get any, and are offended and hurt some weren't set aside and saved for you.

I think it's that as well as the fact that companies are constantly left with extra stock at the end of their cycles and are, at least initially, undercut by their own product on clearance when a new ball is released.  Also, it would seem to be in the best interest of companies outside of Titleist to price their balls lower like Callaway did a couple years ago with the CS.  I hope it continues.

Did you really think people wouldn't jump on the chance to stock up on brand new $20/dozen tour balls? I guess if you like paying close to $50/dozen go ahead and save the deals for us.

Edit: Also, been playing the XV for a few years now, so I'm confident I'll like them.  Played nine holes with one just yesterday, and it was great.

OK I admit I'm a bit of a hoarder too. I bought 3 dozen and I feel guilty. I will play any urethane ball except Pro V out of principle. I was so pumped by the K sig because the price showed how gross the Titleist markup really is

Someone (CommerceTiger?) mentioned that retailers were getting free trial six packs with every dozen ordered.

Everyone benefitted: the consumer ($20 dozens!), the retailer (free sales), and Srixon (greater number of orders).

It's an ideal marketing and sales strategy, at least to me.  More "buzz" regarding this Srixon release than any in past memory.  More test balls in the wild.  Plus, more sales to boot.  Regular Retail price will be $40/doz, likely the lowest out of the all the major manufacturers for a tour ball.

Dunno if this is a KSig pricing effect, but maybe Srixon saw an opportunity and is capitalizing on it.

Very good questions. Wondering if the lower margins are offset by the huge sales quantities. Maybe they did learn from the ksig scenario.

Stocked up for me and my fam. Now I'm hooked. LOVE the regular z star. Next year 40 per dzn unless there are deals to be had, or this pricing becomes the norm.

Played the ksig against the Z star yesterday and I found very little difference off the driver. Both launch high and penetrating. Ksig felt "heavier" if that's a thing. I know the weight is the same obviously so I assume due to compression.

Irons, wedge putter - liked the Z star better. More forgiving on off center iron hits - almost like a 2 piece ball. A tad bit nicer sound off the putter to me, on milled face carbon putter.

Just got back from Dicks.  They didn't have any 6-packs, but they honored a 20% off coupon, and $10 off $50 or more coupon on 2016 XV's already marked down to $29.99.

So....I basically got the deal I needed, on balls I already love.

Had at GG today.  After grabbing the last XV's on the display, I asked if they had more-which they did; seems like they have a ton.  Also selling online.  Still had regular plenty of the regular Z-stars on display, should have probably grabbed as well but just want to try to stick to one ball and not over analyze.  I would have paid the regular asking price  of $40 this year but with this deal my decision on ball made much easier.  If you play another ball at least worth the $10 to try and see if you prefer Z-Stars.  It seems like all the balls are pretty good maybe subtle differences here and there but premium ball at this price hard to beat.  Really for me comes down to Softer or hard feel and which you prefer.

As for srixon and profit.  I don't know what GG pays for the balls, but if you read up on the kirland balls costco basically selling at cost of $15 a dozen I think Srixon manufactures their own and can probably make at a somewhat cheaper cost not considering sunk costs.  At worst they are probably breaking even, and trying to create a buzz get people to use their product.  I like the the 2015's and if I run out I will pay the $40 to replace, when I am sure the samples will be gone.

Wow - Roger Dunn had the 6 packs last month but were selling them for $20.   There was a listing on ebay for $15 with free shipping. Not bad..  $10 in store is unbelievable!

Wow , dicks online has them and if you buy 6 (3 dozen) you get free shipping. Still not as good as the Ksig deal but premium balls $1.67 each. I really didn't need them for a while but cannot pass that deal.

I really don't think one large shipment of K Sigs effected the top brands. Maybe it did, but I find it hard to believe, especially considering you can't even buy Ksigs anymore.

Like I said above, I think the Callaway Chrome Soft had more to do with the pricing than anything else.  When they came out with those at $37.99 a lot of people switched, enough at least to make other brands think (outside of Titleist and TM maybe).

Got out and played the 2017 XV's today that I got as samples.  Performance on par with any premium ball and felt it outperformed the 2017 Prov 1 in green side spin and length.  Both balls were crazy straight.  While I am sure the regular Zstars are great, the XVs were so straight and long that I don't even need to try the Zstars I am good to go as these as my gamers for the season and hopefully longer. I will still try to buy more If I am at a store, if not they usually run two for 60 or I get a ten off coupon occasionally.

This is where my head is on the ball market. Few serious or avid golfers will pay $45 for a dozen balls.  If you play golf 50 rounds a year or more, your getting deals on these, Ksigs, 2014 model of anything of ebay for $20 a dozen, or even ammo boxes from RBG.  I would say most of the $45 purchases are gifts for birthdays, bosses, fathers day, Christmas or some other celebration and the purchase is not by the actual user.  Maybe some rich folks at the upscale clubs buy them as part of their monthly nut they are required to spend who knows.  I have always liked Srixon and with their new irons they are a serious force in 2017.

Same here. I picked up 14 of the trial packs (7 dozen) from various places--again, $20/dozen is too good a deal to not stock up.  I have about 4 dozen B330s, 3 dozen or so leftover TPx and a few dozen random brands that I have picked up over the years.  Definitely the most I've ever had stockpiled.

You're kidding, right? Every single day avid golfers walk into stores and golf-course pro shops and pay more than $45/dozen for ProV1 or ProV1x balls. Millions of them sold every year at full MAP price.

There's roughly half the premium ball market who are willing to pay around $48/dozen for "Tour" balls. Then there's the other half of the "Tour" ball market who are not willing to pay that much.

Titleist bloody well dominates the willing-to-pay half while the other brands fight over the guys who would rather pay $35-$40/dozen and feel like they're getting a great deal.

Then there's the guys like many of us GolfWRX'ers who want "Tour" balls but insist on finding deals for under $25/dozen. Titleist doesn't care about us at all but there are numerous other brands willing to sell into that space. Either the no-overhead cheapies or the big names offering various knockdown prices, promotions and deal on older models.

It all works out great. As along as you're willing to go, let's say, a buck and a half a ball you can get absolutely top-quality balls that perform as well as any ball allowable under the Rules. And if you want to pay twice that much, there are options for you. If you want to pay three times that much, options there as well. Everyone can get what they want or at least what they need!

Life is like the ocean. It can be calm or rough, but in the end it is full of salt and dead animals.

Few serious or avid golfers will pay $45 for a dozen balls.

I would say most of the $45 purchases are gifts for birthdays, bosses, fathers day, Christmas or some other celebration and the purchase is not by the actual user.  Maybe some rich folks at the upscale clubs buy them as part of their monthly nut they are required to spend who knows.

I see what you are saying about the volume of prov1/x sales, but an interesting point is made by break81 regarding the composition of those sales.

Of all the guys I know who play golf regularly and could be regarded as "avid", the only time anyone I know pays 45 per dozen on balls is when there is gift card at the pro-shop from a tourney, drunk at the turn, gifted from friends/family or showing up without enough balls.

Otherwise we all find deals like these, augmented by playing the ones we also find.

Personally the only time I pay full retail for balls was for Chrome Softs, since they were a little more reasonable.

No doubt lots of guys stocking up Pro v1/x balls at retail pricing as you indicated. Interesting however that I do not know a single avid golfer who does.

They're advertising it for $24.59 on the front page, but it's $29.99 per dozen for the 2015 model.

Well cheapskates probably tend to hang around with cheapskates, don't you think?

Without getting too much into stereotyping (that's what the "Judge My Bag thread is for!) I know the guys I play regularly with are either deal-hawks like myself or they buy whatever is on sale at the pro shop whenever they get tournament pro-shop credit or in some cases they literally play with any premium balls they find on the course. All of us are "avid" by any reasonable definition.

But there are other groups of guys I see at my club who you can take one look at and tell they are not cheapskates. They are supremely image conscious in everything from the clothes and shoes they wear to the type of drink they order in the bar to their clubs and golf balls. Those guys routinely buy another dozen of ProV1x (never ProV1 for some reason) whenever their previous dozen runs low. If you see a foursome of these guys at least three if not all four will be playing ProV1x.

I once jokingly referred to that type of golfer as the guys who iron their golf pants. You know the type I mean, surely? My theory is that part of being image conscious is playing the ProV1x and another part of the image is not stooping to shop around for deals. I shudder to think what these guy's monthly bill from the club looks like, given their expensive tastes and willingness to pay list price for everything.
