I've been playing golf for close to 50 years. Damn I'm old. Not sure if this was the worst, but probably the funniest. When I was 13-14 I was playing with my brother. I hit a tee shot on a par 3 in the edge of the water. I had just watched a pro on tv(yes we had tv back then) play a shot from a similar spot and put the ball on the green. So I tried it and you can imagine.....water and mud came out but no ball. People from another FW got a good laugh and my brother was rolling on the green watching me clean the mud off my face and shirt. In the 40+ years since..... I have never tried that shot again.

One I haven't forgotten is one my wife hit.. She was chipping onto the green, but for some reason took a near full swing.  Thinned the piss out it and hit me directly on the ankle bone.  Limped around for a couple weeks after that.

The shot that made my walk away from the game for 11 years.

I take you back to 2001. Canadian tour pga qualifier. I need to par 17 and 18 to make it.  17 is a 430 yard par 4 with a severe dog leg left (70 degree at 120 yards). I hit my driver and push it in the woods. Hit a provisional with an even bigger push. All balls are deemed lost. Go back hit one down the middle with my eyes full of tears. Hit on the green, make 2 putts for an awesome snowman 8.

Get to the last hole, par 5, 560 yards with an island green on the water to cut down the hole. Drive on the island. 225 left to pin, hit my 5wood to 3 feet. Make eagle but still miss it by 2 shots.

This shot put me in depression and I put my clubs away. It took me 11 years to come back to the game.
I ain't a + HDCP anymore but I still love this game.

I didn't read all of these but I imagine I have everybody beat. I was a freshman in high school and went out for the High School Golf Team. I had only been playing for about 3 months. He told me we're gonna play the first 4 holes. If you get 32 or better you're on the team. It was par 5, 4, 3, and 4. I was on the 4th hole. Had to shoot 8 or better at this point. I hit a pretty short drive but not the worse thing ever. It landed in front of a big hole probably about 6 inches in diameter and 6 inches deep. Looked like a rock had just been moved out of it. I take my 7 iron, it was the club I could hit and I was playing it safe. I lined my shot up and swung. I guess I topped it because the ball went straight into the hole popped up, hit me in the face, and knocked my glasses off. Luckily the golf coach was the only one watching. He couldn't stop laughing.

Not my shot, but I saw it happen.

Par 5, second shot from the fairway, my buddy (who is a pretty good golfer) pulls out a 3i.

Nice easy lay up, I figure.

Nope. He tops the ball, which goes straight up in the air, hits himself on the bill of his baseball cap on the way down, lands almost exactly where he hit it from. I fell down, laughing so hard!

He just lined it up and swung away, like nothing had happened.

Different day - I also saw a guy, on the first tee box, tee his ball up pretty high. Then, on his real swing, takes the tee out from under the ball, the ball drops straight down, exactly where the tee had been. (Now, granted, the guy had a horse head mask on at the time, but I thought it was impressive all the same.)

My personal worst - I am playing as a single at a private club where my college team practiced. I sucked, having just started playing golf, but I played for free with the golf team (as I signed up as the 12th guy).

Into a stiff breeze, I hit a huge slice (which in and of itself was noting new). Across another fairway, it hits a golf cart (without a roof) BETWEEN the two golfers riding in it. I saw it coming, yelled, but of course they couldn't hear me (the wind was into me).  Most embarassed I had ever been on a golf course.

Until.....

A few years later, I am playing w a friend, hit a slice off the 4th tee box into a headwind, OB. Where there was construction going on - building houses on the golf course.

My shot hits a window on the second floor of a house under construction, breaks the window which was right next to the guy who was installing said window.  He starts yelling at me, but I just kept on walking.  When I asked about it at the golf shop, they told me not to worry, the construction company was on the hook for all damages.

Every year my older brother holds a Good Friday outing for Fire Dept burn victims. Play it every year it's a great time for a great cause. Anywho, I hit a wayward tee shot get to ball in a stand of trees. My brother and friends being wise***es say I've got no shot. I of course think I do...go with a low 4i under the branches. Hit tree, ball ricochets right back at me. hits brim of my hat and proceeds to bust my lip open for six stitches. Forward to next year, on first tee, I was presented with a ceremonial mouth guard

I had it this weekend.  On the first tee for my first tournament of the year.  I was stupidly nervous.  Hitting 3wood on a 420yd par 4.  Make contact with the earth 8" behind the ball.  My tee ball barely makes it past the ladies tee.  Had to lay up down the fairway with a 5-iron from there.  Wedged it up and lipped out the par putt.

Though I've had worse outcomes with the position of the ball: In junior golf, whiffed, driver went flying out of my hands and got stuck 30 feet up in a tree.  Played with a 3 wood off the tee for a year before my dad got me a new driver.  Every tee shot was a reminder of that swing for the entire year.

Playing in event at home club, it was a pro am that we had for our Head Pro who was being inducted in our State Assoc. HOF that evening and all of his former assistants came back for it(he was head pro for 44 years).  One of the assistants who had ended up as the head pro at the club i grew up playing and i had taken numerous lessons as a kid from was on the adjacent hole and had stopped his cart with whom he was playing with to watch my shot as i had hit my drive into their fairway.  I proceed to hit a half shank that ended up 50 yards right of the green.  At the HOF banquet that night the entire crowd got to hear the story of my shank as that former assistant spoke at the HOF banquet and i was sitting up in front of everyone as i had to speak too.  He told everyone how he had seen me grow up playing and was a good player and told his cart companion that and then i proceeded to completely hosel rocket one in front of them.  Everyone got a good chuckle out of it and i heard about that one at the club for a few weeks.

First hole at Yocha Dehe in Northern California. Shanked an iron over a fence and hit a donkey.  Got him square in the head and he started making these awful donkey sounds and I never really regrouped the whole day.

This is the most hilarious visual!

Mine would have to be the equivalent of the "pulling the table cloth out from under the dishes" trick.  Tee'd it too high, swing was really steep and took a divot with my driver on the first tee....ball fell straight down as I swiped the tee right out underneath it.

Also, I present you with my brother's tee shot:
Posted Image

My worst shot was at a friend's bachelor party where we had a few adult beverages. Very similar to this. Except my ball actually hit in front of the tee and then came backwards. The ball came to rest 2 feet behind where I had teed up. First time I had ever seen that one.

Most embarrassing shot resulted in a green in regulation :swoon:
Early nineties I played in a student championship.
I aimed for the wrong green which was empty right next to the hole I played.
A big slice came to rest on the green I was supposed to aim for and I nearly hit a player of the flight in front of us.
The result was so crazy good that I acted like a complete sucker.
I did not call fore; i did not explain what happened. I waved and simply said sorry.
---
Most funny bad shot ever hit was a 3W on the tee. About 10 years ago.
I was experimenting a lot with club balance at the time and light weight grips were new.
My new 3W had a swing weight of G1. The first swing I took was on a tee on a spot in the course close by the tee boxes.
For course management I thought it was wise to set up close to a tee marker hit which had the shape and the sound of a brass bell.
The bounced back about 30 meters or so went over another teebox with players and landed in a deep pit.
All I could do was laugh along with the people who laughed at me.
Do not mess with the balance of golfclubs. Lesson learned.

A few years ago, in the first tournament I had played in since high school (so about 10 years) I stepped up to the first tee and was super nervous.  It was a fairly tight tee shot and I I knew if I pulled driver, with how nervous I felt, I would really try to go after it and pull hook it.  So I decided the best play was a 3w.  You see, my 3w at the time was a pretty safe play for me.  I was horrible with the 3w if I really tried to go after one.  So I figured by hitting 3w, it would force me to take a nice easy swing.

Well.... it didn't work.  I took what felt like the slowest, easiest swing of my life and almost whiffed.  I barely grazed the top of the ball.  It dribbled off the tee, about 5-6 yards to the left and maybe 2 yards forward.  It was disgusting.  From that same spot, I hit 3w again and pull hooked it.  Triple to start the day lol.

Hmmm, i guess i'll go with this year but it's not 1 shot it's 3 shots. I missed qualifying for our interclub team by 3 points and i made three double bogeys on 18 out of 4 rounds LOL. Fairly easy hole it's only 350yds but there's OB down the right side. I hit 3 snap hooks OB, two of them with hybrids. I mean just horrible shots. I could've made 3 bogeys and been in a playoff for the 10 spot
This is exactly why I don't carry hybrids.

I'm sure I've hit a lot of bad shots but the most recent that stands out.

Par 5 chipping uphill for 4, hit a great chip that takes a hop, dies, and rolls toward the hole, headed in for birdie and it sits on the front lip.

Pick up my putter and another wedge and walk up to tap it in as someone pulls out the flag quick, made a weak one handed pass at it with putter while holding 2 wedges in the other hand and the club went straight over the ball.

Easy bogey.

I vividly remember mine. It was 2011 and I was playing my Club Championship. I came down to the last hole, a Par 5 that I hit in regulation. I had about a 30 footer that I needed to 2 putt in order to tie and get into a playoff. I proceeded to knock it 6 feet passed the hole....

and that wasn't the worst shot. The worst shot was the yip of a putt on the 6 footer coming back.

Had a decent round going in a tournament in college. I was #2, so our #1 was in the group behind me. I stood on the tee of the par 3 and decided I should muscle up a 6i instead of hitting a solid 5i. Hozzle shank it nearly straight right. My teammate, and #1, was reading his putt. Before I could even yell "Fore" the ball sailed over his head.  It was about 3' directly over his head and coming in hot. He was really pissed. I think a part of him is still mad over 10 years later.

Last year in the club championship I was 3 under on the day and currently leading the tournament. Step up to the 13th tee and it's a hole where if I really go after it I can reach the green from the tee box and if I miss hit it I'm usually past all of the trouble anyways so it's not a big deal. I swing and on the downswing my right foot slips out on the pivot, I hit about a foot behind the ball and it trickles about 5 feet forward 5 feet left and is lying about an inch in front of some tall grass. Next shot I don't really have a way to advance the ball because it's up next to the tall grass so I have to play it out nearly sideways and it advances maybe 60 yards to the hole. I now have probably 250 out. Hit the best hybrid of my life to about 15 feet and lip the putt. So at least I was able to squeeze a bogey out of it, but it was still embarrassing nonetheless. Nobody even knew what to say the guys in the group were too scared to laugh I guess. But I honestly don't know how I didn't break my driver. I finished the swing on the ground after I slipped.

Running Y Ranch.  Standing in the middle of the 14th fairway 110 yds from the green with a hybrid in my hand because it's the highest lofted club without a hosel I can hit.  Took a 7 after hitting said hybrid dead right.  Twice.

This shot is a mix between my worst and goofiest shot.

556-yard par 5, had about 175 to the hole for my third shot, I usually have about 120 for my third shot on this particular hole, but the wind was howling in my face. Probably blowing about 40 mph. I was 40 yards behind the hazard. So I hit it, good contact with a decent fade. The wind gusted so hard, that the fade turned into a "boomerang shot." My third shot only went only 80 yards in the air because the wind blew it back mid-air for a decent amount.

Probably my worst shot that I hit well on that I could remember.

I was having trouble with the dreaded shanks one day and started trying to pull the club inside so I hit out more towards the toe - I was so successful I had a full blooded perfect airswing missing the ball on the inside with a perfect divot right next to it.

First hole at Yocha Dehe in Northern California. Shanked an iron over a fence and hit a donkey.  Got him square in the head and he started making these awful donkey sounds and I never really regrouped the whole day.

I've never been able to see that Donkey, but it's plenty loud.

1 shot and 1 round.

The shot, Black Butte Ranch in Central Oregon. Downhill Par 4 signature hole that my mother in law lives on. She's the only full timer that lives on the hole out of about 10 houses. Very elevated tee box and there is family grilling out that doesn't live there. House is about 30 yards in front of the tee box but about 40 ft below it. Swung out of my shoes, came over the top and just ripped it about 50* left. On most courses it would have just pounded into the ground but being an elevated tee box with grass only about 10 ft in front of the tees there is nothing to stop it. Missed everyone somehow hits the Bar b question and shatters the kitchen window on the ricochet.

Walked over gave my phone number and came back 2 hrs later with my checkbook.

Spud do you know #14 on Big Meadow at Black Butte?

Hey, I'm honest and can laugh at myself. Kinda forgot to add that the guy I'm playing with has been trying to get my wife's business for 7-8 years so he was pretty nice about it.
