I was drunk, I teed the ball up and took a mighty lash with the driver. I hit the ground about 15" or so behind the ball, and the club proceeded to bounce over the ball completely resulting in basically a "whiff". I was hitting 2 off the box. Lovely day that was (both times, lol).

Love this topic.

Worst shot: I was playing the Donald Ross Memorial Course in MI (fun course fyi) and I was having a trying round but finally had a solid drive. I was about 65 out w/ a very small water hazard about 5 yds in front of me which should be out of play for this shot. Instead, I take about a 2 ft divot w. my 58 and stuck my approach right into the hazard.

Most embarrassing: I was flirting with the cute cart girl and my friends kinda made a scene so I was already a little red in the face. I figured I'd impress her with my sweet driving skills (like chicks care about that) and took a monster swing only to toe the heck out of it and flew basically horizontal and nearly hit her cart and went into the side of an out building that was right there all noisily. My boys made me go pick up the ball and do the 2 way walk of shame while she (and they) were all dying laughing.

First hole at Yocha Dehe in Northern California. Shanked an iron over a fence and hit a donkey.  Got him square in the head and he started making these awful donkey sounds and I never really regrouped the whole day.

Thanks a lot buddy. Since I read this post I can't get the visual out of my head.

Which then reminds me of the donkey in the Turner/Sparrow sword fight scene from "Pirates of the Caribbean".

Playing the par 5 18th at a course I play relatively frequently. Great round going, need birdie to be even on the day. Lay up to about 75 yards, perfect distance for my lob wedge. Thinking I have it in the bag, go ahead and catch it off the hosel. Goes dead right into the driving range net. Haven't had the chance to par that course since then.

I don't think I have a "worst" shot ever.  There has been a lot of bad shots over the years and I try to forget most of them and move on with my life.  HOWEVER, I do have a most embarrassing shot.  My old home course, Douglaston, has the 1st tee right by the clubhouse/practice green/outdoor seating area.   There are usually a lot of people waiting to tee off.   It was my first round of the season and I went out as a single.  The guys I played with all teed off and sprayed the ball all over the place.  I took a 3 iron off the tee and took a "mighty" hack and made solid contact while losing my footing and falling flat on my back...on the 1st tee...in front of probably 50 people.  As soon as everyone figured out I was ok, the laughing started.  The funny part, for me at least, is that I was the only one in the fairway out of my 4some.  Every time my partners looked at me for the next 3 holes they started cackling.  Great way to start a day as a single.

Topped a 3w and the ball went 2 ft behind me. The important part was holding the finish and announcing that I crushed it.

Here's a funny one that someone else achieved:

Paired up with a wealthy English couple in Spain and the gent is standing next to his tee-ball making some back and forth swings to loosen up before blast off.

As he swings back from finish to transistion on one, he accidentally stripes his ball which shoots backwards and smacks his dolled up wife on the shin.

I have never heard a society princess (or anybody else) use so many foul words in 30 seconds as she did.

I was hitting an approach to a par four green, just a small 50 yard wedge. Theres a "No Carts beyond this point" sign about 15 yards up, and dont I thin it into the sign and it carrums left about back to where I hit from. Must have been first year playing or second.

On a range one day I had chosen a very far right target and that range was somewhat bowl shaped so I was probably at a 45 angle to the guys further up the range, including the "clubhouse". I then proceeded to hosel/shank a short iron about 120 yards.... over the practice green and into the parking lot. I immediately picked up my clubs, left the mostly still full bucket behind and briskly headed to the car without making eye contact with a single person.

Easily my single most embarrassing moment in the game and yet in a weird way I remember it fondly.

Took an annual golf trip every year with about 20 friends.  My partner and I had a money match match going with our arch rivals and we were the last foursome in the afternoon tee times for our group.  The entire party we were traveling with were hanging out on the 18th drinking beers and watching us come in.  My partner was out of the hole and I hit my approach 20ft below the pin and had two putts to win the match for us.  Green was two tiered and I was on the lower tier.  I completely yipped the putt, hit the turf with the putter, the ball  didn’t make it up the hill, and it rolled right back to my feet.  It was really a pretty  easy putt…pure choke.

I've hit tons of run of the mill bad shots on the course, but none so spectacular that one stands out. However, one day I stopped at the driving range on my way home from work and proceeded to shank my first ten, or so, full swings each worse than the last.  The last one almost went in the parking lot, and I decided to quit before I damaged something. Next time out everything was back to normal.

It was the weirdest thing I've ever experienced. As a mid teen hcp I hit plenty of bad ones , but the hosel rocket is a rarity for me. I probably only hit 1-2 a season and they're almost always on less than full swings. At least I was the only one on the range that evening.

Worst and best shot ever.....
Long par 4, so I swing out of my shoes. Pull my drive into the trees left, and it comes screaming back to the tee box. Everyone scrambles to avoid ball to the head. It hits another tree and ends up 1/2" from my tee.
After regaining our composure, then began the argument over the tee being a movable obstruction.
Just say'in...

A few years back I purchased a new Taylormade driver with a white head. I was running late, so I didn't get a chance to hit the range before my round. I step up on the first tee and tee the ball nice and high. I'm going to peel the outer layer off my golf ball. With a mighty swing I proceed to go right under the ball. It launches straight up in the air ~20 yards, and lands inches from my feet. Ouch. On top of that, the crown of my brand new driver has a beautiful black mark.

Honorable mention: On a short par 4 I hit a great drive that left me 100 yards from the pin, a perfect sand wedge distance. I'm licking my chops thinking birdie. Instead of sticking it close, I shank the ball at a 45 degree angle into a high lipped fairway bunker on the right side of the fairway. Ugh. Now I have one of the hardest shots in golf, the 50 yard bunker shot. I remember this hole to this day, because my next shot was one of the better ones. Not only did I managed to get a wedge on the ball, and over the front lip, but I holed the shot out for a birdie. Lol. Easy game.

I remember going to a new club with my father when I was about 14 and I had no handicap and my dad played off about 20. The pro shop said I could play as long as they verified on the first tee that I could actually hit a ball with some talent. Out we go to the first tee with the pro and I am shaking like a leaf, somehow I managed to make a weak contact that stayed straight and made the fairway.

The funny part came when may dad then tee'd it up, hit a complete shank that flew straight threw the window of a greenhouse about 100 yards right of the fairway. Me and the pro just p*ssed ourselves laughing and he turned round to me and jokingly said I could play whilst my dad must wait in the bar.

Somehow qualified for a regional event when I was 15 (was my first). Got on the 1st tee, quite a few people, there thought I'd play safe and use a 3i. Managed to pull of some kind of hook top shank shot that went ~100 yds and 40 left into all kinds of bad stuff had to hack out 4 times made 12.

Oh man.
I guess my worse one was summer before last.

My friend and I had hit a couple of decent drives. I was on the Left side of the fairway and Mike was on the Right side about 10 yards ahead of me.
I had about 120 to the green, pulled out my PW and proceeded to hit the worse shank of my life, straight at Mike.  Had he not dropped to the ground, it would have beaned him right in the head.   I felt terrible!   Needless to say, that PW stayed in the bag for the rest of the day!

At the singles state championship in high school my senior year(2005). I qualified for it 3 weeks before with a top 5 at districts with a 75.  I developed a bad case of the sh*nks about a week before so the timing was horrible,  confidence shot.  I started out ok. Got to the 8th hole and had about 122 out,  middle of the fairway,  easy Pw.  College coaches watching (10 or so).   I proceeded to crack one right off the heal and in to the woods OB not 25 yards up the fairway to the right.  Maybe not the worst shot I ever hit,  but definitely the worst time to hit one ever. I dropped,  and did the exact same thing. Carded an 81 that round,  no interest from colleges after that... Lol

Ok so not only do I know without a doubt my worst shot but I have the picture to prove it. I got to play Riviera Country Club for the first time about 9 years ago and when we get to the famous Par 3 6th with the bunker in the middle of the green I couldn't hold my excitement. I handed my camera to a buddy of mine (this is before high resolution camera phones) and said take a pic of me when I hit this shot. I rushed the shot so bad that I shanked it dead right into the home and all we heard was a loud crash!!! We don't know for sure if I broke a window but it sure sounded like it. my pro said "that is the hardest shank I have ever seen!!" Of course they still tease and laugh about it to this day.

In a high school match years ago I was about a foot away from an ob concrete and rod iron fence over the green by about 15 yards. The concrete bottom was like 2 feet tall, then the iron. Instead of chipping out, I figured I'd try a bank shot with a 7 iron. I had to hit it pretty hard since the rough was kakuya, and you can't run a ball thru it since it just grabs. I thought this would work, instead I took my swing, the ball flew over the concrete and thru the gap in the rod iron, straight ob into the street.

Had been playing a couple years and my friend and I were paired with two guys we had never met before.  We got to hole number 3 and it is an elevated tee on a par 4 that you could easily drive the green.  Well I took a mighty rip and barely grazed it and it rolled between my legs and down the hill.  I had to walk down there and get my ball and I just said I would drop in the fairway where my friend had hit his to keep things moving along.  Man I was embarrassed.

I have hit some bad shots over the years, but the one that sticks out the most was a 50 foot putt, up a steep slope, and I actually chunked it.  I hit the putt fat, putter hit the ground 3 inches behind the ball and the ball went 20 feet, not even half way to the cup.
