So when the hell can I hit this? I'm starting to get impatient.

Officially the release is "spring". I'd love to put it in play head to head vs B330 Tour, and do a full review against other premium balls, but I've been told no, until an official release date is given to us.

Here are the thoughts I shared in another thread on it, for the sake of feedback.

This new ball launches high, but still somehow cuts through the wind. There is a visual difference in the ball flight that makes you take notice. The really odd thing is that iron shots will pierce the wind in a way that looks like a distance ball, then check hard on the green. It's really odd. You are thinking by ball flight that there's no spin, and into the wind it acts like no spin, but in reality it has enough to stop the ball sharp. I can't really explain it. You have to see it for yourself.

This sounds exactly what I'm looking for. I play the TPx/B330, but wouldn't mind a bit higher launch. I actually just made a thread about it.

I was considering doing ball testing this year, even though I have played Taylormade for around 8 or 9 years now, but after reading all the early reviews I can already tell I'm going to love the new TP5x.

I want to do some ball testing, but am waiting for these. Due to a swing change I am in desperate need of more spin with the driver (as low as 1400rpms), so I'm considering a change from TPx. TP5 is very inviting.

Why not increase loft?

...or hit it with a lower aoa?

...or use a shaft with higher spin?

...or try to generate more clubhead speed?

I'll never understand why Taylormade renames their damned balls every year...

If I want the top of the line Titleist, I grab a box of ProV; if I want the top of the line Bridgestone I pick up a box of B330; if I want a box of the top of the line TM...I don't know what the hell to get.  I suppose the most expensive?

Taylormade rejiggers the name of everything they make every damn month. It's in their corporate DNA. Product churn, model churn, feature churn, name churn. It's what they do.
Everything has its drawbacks, as the man said when his mother-in-law died, and they came down upon him for the funeral expenses.

Strange, at least since 2014, the last two generations had the same names:

Tour Preferred and Tour Preferred X

I find it much more easy to grab a ball with a new name, than to investigate whether the reseller is selling the last years model, or the latest...
...which can be cumbersome, if you don´t know how the (new) packaging looks like.

This is probably the reason why last year's M1 and M2 have the same names as this years M1 and M2...

It's not hard to understand with TaylorMade balls. They're not the market leader and their attempts at obtaining any appreciable market share have been unsuccessful so far. Re-using names may add consistency that helps a consumer like yourself, but it's more likely that someone else will see the name and skip right over it because they remember the time they tried that ball and didn't like it.

Using myself as an example, lets say they stuck with the name Penta. Fair or unfair, I'm going to remember the time I tried the original Penta and didn't like it. This may make me less likely to try the new ball, even though it could be 5 revisions and many improvements later. Rebranding removes any stigma consumers have attached to the name. Sure, it's at the cost of creating excess confusion, but if you haven't gained much market share, there's little risk involved.

Now, it's worth pointing out that they did stick with the Tour Preferred name for the past three seasons: initial introduction and one revision. But when you have a product touted as being a revolutionary step forward, you don't put it in the same line as your previous balls. You make a whole new line so people understand it's different.

Wasn't a fan of the TM premium ball until the Lethal. I've bought and bagged the Lethal and Tour Preferred X exclusively since their introduction. I've heard several good things about this new ball. Looking forward to giving these a run.

In my opinion, the Taylormade top of the line balls are superior to the Titleist top balls. Better performance in windy conditions. Just as good otherwise.

Yes, essentially, but I would argue the TM balls are better.  The previous tour preferred versions were better than their competing Pro V1 counterpart to me.

So is the TP5=Pro V1 and TP5x=Pro V1X?

Yes, essentially, but I would argue the TM balls are better.  The previous tour preferred versions were better than their competing Pro V1 counterpart to me.

Really? Might have to try the new TM balls.
