Merry Christmas, everyone ! I hope all received "The Longest Ball" and it was a TP5 or a KSG not an old Pinnacle !! Soon the Epic will arrive and my Ely stock will spike !! Hope spring eternal, which is how it should be ...

Does anyone have a single 2017 TP5x to loan me for a Trackman test? Want to see it against the ProV1x, KSig, Snell, and my old Red LDP.

To funny.  People actually wanting an 8 iron to go further.  Kinda reminds me of that commercial with the guy playing 14 drivers..."that's all you need right"?

I don't know or care about the new TP5 or TP5X being a longer ball, but I do expect it to be another exceptional offering from Taylormade. I will definitely buy a dozen and give them a go when they come out.

I never would have believed it, but I averaged 11.5 yards further than Prov1 and Cally chrome average distances with an 8 iron . 10 shots each on a trackman, there was no mistake. The ball went noticeably higher to the eye and trackman confirmed the distances.

High launch, with low spin...its crazy, I have no idea how they did it

Astounding, but please tell me why you want low spin on an 8-iron.

I honestly wouldn't mind it especially on mushy greens. The Lethal kind of played that way for me and I loved that ball.

What if this was just a Lethal rebadge?!?! That ball was awesome!
Was awesome?  Past tense?  You can still buy brand new lethals for 2 bucks a piece on the Taylormade web site.

I still love them in the wind.  Very stable.

I still have about 12 dozen from the old woot deal a few years back I'm working through. Best ball I've played, and I've built my game around it.
I've used the TP and TPX from this year and it's similar to the point I can't tell much difference. The Lethal just feels a bit softer.
If the new TP5s are anything like the previous versions, it's still going to be a great ball. And I will play it eventually. I also played and liked the TP Red, TP Black and TP Red LDP. Taylormade, love them or hate them, make a great golf ball.

:download: :download:  My point at the beginning of this thread was I'm sure the new balls will be great. Like the past 6 iterations with 5 pieces they promise to go way further. They won't because a good tour ball is a good tour ball. Pick one and you'll have a ball that plays basically the same. Some will be softer, some firmer, some may spin better for you. I know, I'm a WRXer I try'em all with the hope of 3 extra yards off the driver. I usually get it, too, for a week. :cheesy: :nyam: The K-Sig does go :rap: 30 yds. further, it has to with the # of posts it gets ....

If you take the same swing, same club and hit a number or premium balls you will see differences in distance and spin just based off their design (inside, cover, and dimple pattern). So if you find the ball that fits you, you'll get better performance from it.

I really liked the TP5, was disappointed when TM moved on from them.

Exactly, I had heard the TP5 was a great ball and given DJs year it certainly looked to be great. (In fact, according to the USGA it was 2" too long). Hopefully the new ball is also great; by all accounts it is.

There used to be a Penta TP5 a few years ago along with a TP3 if memory serves correct. About 2012?

Same here.  The previous two versions of the TPx were excellent golf balls and were my personal favorite.  If the TP5 is slightly better then it will still be the best golf ball for me.

Any of you guys watching "All Star Golf" today on the Golf channel. Arnie and Littler and Stranahan hitting it 300 with balata and persimmon. Talent always rules ! :deadhorse: :good:
I've watched many episodes of All Star Golf.  I think that a lot of those distances are, shall we say, optimistic.  However, it is true that on desert courses in the western U.S. most are at least one club longer due to altitude and very dry air.  In his day Arnie was a longer than average length but not among the very longest.  Stranahan was about Arnies' length(Stranahan is generally considered golf's first real fitness buff, even before Player) and Littler was no more than average PGA Tour length.  Arnie was probably the straightest of the longer than average hitters until Jack came along.  Littler's nick name was "Gene the machine", for the consistency and accuracy of his iron game.  But I agree that talent will out.  Players that were successful in the 50's and 60's would more than likely be successful today as well.  Those players were hungrier as well.  Purses were low and if you didn't make the cut you got zilch.  Corporate sponsorship wasn't what is it today either.  I remember in the late 60's and early 70's Amana paid PGA pros $50 a week to wear an Amana logo'ed hat.  It seems quaint now but that was useful money to a pro in those days.  Arnie and Mark McCormick were were really the first to be able to pull in significant sponsorship money and that was only because Arnie was such a superstar.  I remember a quote, I can't place the originator right now, if a player complained of bogeying a hole after a round, he said,"half the players don't care and the other half wish it was a double."  That's why many old timers consider most of today's players so soft.  Today's attitude seems to be, well if I don't play well this week I can always win 1.5 mil next week.  The old timers will tell you that it used to be if you didn't win or finish well more often than not then you didn't eat.  The story is well known of Hogan traveling to California with his wife and being so desperate for money that they sometimes had to live off of oranges found at the roadside of orange groves.  What pro would put up with that these days?

One of the biggest myths in golf is that the ball goes further in "dry air". Warm air will make a ball travel further than cold but the more humidity the further the ball will go because water vapor is actually lighter than air. A ball will travel further at 90% humidity than it does in Desert dry air.

This ball is amazing. The ball flight off the face is high and penetrating. The ball just seems to cut through the air but still stops on the green. It's hard to describe unless you've hit it. TaylorMade has a clear winner with this one.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

Here I am sitting on enough golf balls to supply me for three years, and you've got me slobbering and drooling for a dozen of these.

I haven't hit it yet, but will try soon.  The TM TPx is my favorite golf ball.  Only issue is that most people will continue to play (and lose) Pro V1's.

I am as well. Bridgestone took care of me with 40 dozen balls for the 2017 season. And I love the Tour B330. That doesn't mean this new TP5x ball is not a wonderful product. ;)
