I've played 34 on the public list. Here is how I would rank them;

Pebble Beach
The Prince Course
Arcadia Bluffs
Ocean Course
Spyglass Hill
Pronghorn Club
Manele
Mauna Kea
Red Sky Fazio
TPC Sawgrass
Red Sky Norman
Coeur D' Alene
Barton Creek Fazio Canyons
Blackwolf Run
Broadmoor East
Pelican Hill - Ocean South
PGA West
Cascata
Barton Creek Fazio Foothills
Forest Dunes
Edgewood Tahoe
Homestead Cascades
Poppy Hills
Hualalai
Wolf Creek
Trump National Doral
We-ko-pa Saguaro
Pinehurst #2
Pasatiempo
Makai GC
Torrey Pines South
World Woods - Pine Barens

Cog Hill No 4

Wow Pasatiempo and Pinehurst so low!

Have you played Pasatiempo ????.....that place is talked about like a golf Mecca bu in reality it is a dump !!!!  I wouldn't rank it in the top 40 in CA in terms of playing conditions.

* Sorry but ive been there 5 times over the last 3 years and each time it gets worse and each time the pro shop tells me that I caught the course at a bad time......I doubt it ever has a good time......

So why keep going back as I'm assuming you are paying?

I played it in 2016 as part of a larger SF trip and was great.  The architecture is genius Mackenzie, you have to forget about the homes around the course, although I admit it takes away from it.  I thought the course was in very good shape as well, not immaculate but definitely above average.  Not long, but greens are very tough.

I have played Pinehurst as well after the C&C renovation and it was awesome!

So respectfully disagree.

Pasa had water restriction brought on them. Fairways were purple.  Firm and fast though.  MacKenzie lived on the course. If anything its underrated. People are such maint whores and don't get real golf.

1 PEBBLE BEACH G. LINKS(1) PEBBLE BEACH G. LINKS, Pebble Beach, Calif.
2 PACIFIC DUNES(2) PACIFIC DUNES, Bandon, Ore.
6 PINEHURST RESORT (No. 2), Pinehurst, N.C.
7 BANDON DUNES, Bandon, Ore.
8 BETHPAGE STATE PARK (BLACK), Farmingdale, N.Y.
10 OLD MACDONALD, Bandon, Ore.
12 TPC SAWGRASS (PLAYERS STADIUM), Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
14 BANDON TRAILS, Bandon, Ore.
17 STREAMSONG (RED), Streamsong, Fla.
21 KAPALUA (PLANTATION), Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii
22 STREAMSONG (BLUE), Streamsong, Fla.
33 TORREY PINES G. CSE. (SOUTH), La Jolla, Calif.
48 WOLF CREEK G.C., Mesquite, Nev.
49 Dormie Club, West End, N.C.
55 TOBACCO ROAD G.C., Sanford, N.C.
56 CASCATA, Boulder City, Nev.
64 PINEHURST RESORT (NO. 8), Pinehurst, N.C.
68 PINE NEEDLES LODGE & G.C., Southern Pines, N.C.
69 TROY BURNE G.C., Hudson, Wis.
73 WORLD WOODS G.C. (PINE BARRENS), Brooksville, Fla.
77 OMNI BARTON CREEK RESORT & SPA (FAZIO CANYONS), Austin, Tex.
93 MID PINES INN & G.C., Southern Pines, N.C.
100 OMNI BARTON CREEK C.C. (FAZIO FOOTHILLS), Austin, Tex.

Italics are ones on the list over the next 12 months. From playing all of these I can tell I am not a Donald Ross fan. Just played Pinehurst #2, not a huge fan. After Pebble I would say my favorites are Dormie Club and Bethpage.

I'll do the public list since I've at least played 6 of those:

8. Bethpage Black - Farmingdale, NY
30. Quarry at Giants Ridge - Biwabik, MN
48. Wolf Creek - Mesquite, NV
57. Wilderness at Fortune Bay - Tower, MN
58. Classic at Madden's Resort - Brainerd, MN
69. Troy Burne - Hudson, WI

My order would go

1. Bethpage
2. Wolf Creek
3. Wilderness
4. Quarry
5. Troy Burne
6. The Classic

Yes.  It's a good course but highly overrated in my opinion.

Iím not a fan of the golf digest rankings b/c it includes resistance to scoring.

Argonne-what are your top 5 fav courses in the us? Underrated/overrated? Hidden gems?

Wolf Creek is a visual treat. It's what I'd expect from a Mesquite area course. What do believe is a better course in the area?

i prefer conestoga.  50 minutes west is coyote springs.  50 minutes east is sand hollow.

wolf creek is a roller coaster. 1 and done.

My disagreement is to put wolfcreek in your top5 public course. But then again it's YOUR top 5.  I find it questionable and don't understand it.

i prefer conestoga.  50 minutes west is coyote springs.  50 minutes east is sand hollow.

wolf creek is a roller coaster. 1 and done.

Conestoga isn't bad, but there are a few too many meh holes on the back nine. Sand Hollow has a wonderful stretch on the back nine along the valley, but the front nine is a real snoozer. Now, take the front nine from Contestoga, and pair it with Sand Hollow's back nine, and I think you have a winner.

You don't think one of the allure of a great course is it's ability to get us to come back and play it over and over? I think I've skipped wolf creek every chance I had when I'm in the area.  I head straight to sand hollow and just enjoy my stay there.

I'd even argue the paiute courses in vegas is 100x better than wolf creek.

Sentry World is a real treat... just make sure you play the correct tees or you'll be hitting hybrid-wedge into a bunch of holes

'Just got back from central Wisconsin. I added Sentry World (34) to the list. The course is a very nice parkland layout with superb conditioning, but it's very overrated at #34. I'd probably rank it in the bottom 20 of the list. I also played Sand Valley and Mammoth Dunes, and I expect to see both on the '19-'20 list next year.

Have all the top 26 on every list done. Started this in 1976. Amazed at how many in the second 100 used to be in the top 100 and have moved out never hear about anymore.

The top 26 over the year of the GD lists you mean?  That is an unusual even number to have.  It is just by happenstance or are you striving for something?
