i think that mizuno shaft optimizer recommends that all of us use DG s300 because that is the stock shaft in most of their irons! LOL but my driver ss is in the 90's and i cant play the dg s300, although theyre smooth they feel like re-bar too, way to heavy for me.  i like the feel of a lighter shaft.  the mizuno optimizer recommended dg s300 for me too.

I know you wrote this a long time ago, but what was the shaft flex that you soft stepped?  S or X ?

Had always played DGS300.
Got fitted at Callaway (1st time ever), and got fitted for DG SL S300.

Absolutely hated them, lasted about 9 months trying to convince myself the fitter was right. I am certain that he put me in these because the fitting studio was inside and compact and I was swinging well within myself.

Felt really boardy, no release through the ball. And I had no idea where the club head was during the swing.

Anyway now in Project X 5.5 flighted, absolutely perfect for me.

I went the other way. From S300 too X100 SL. I needed a response of higher bend point and firm tip. As I got older my swing plain has changed. I am more of a sweeper and rarely take divots with wedges. ( play on firm fairways)  The response I feel in the shaft is what I need, especially in the longer irons. My irons are fitted with 52 gram  grips, and the balance combo of the X100 SL  and GP velvet grips gives me the needed information to go out and attack with confidence.

I have a set of Ping Zing 2s that I felt were feeling a bit tired in the shafts, they had Ping JZ stiff.
Called Ping who recommended DG S300 as a direct replacement.
Getting a bit older now ( 55) so I went for the DGSL S300 and while it is taking a little time to adjust they are very precise and I do feel more control .
Just as an aside I got the Ping ID8 360 grips fitted and they feel thinner than the ribbed version at least one layer of tape thinner.
