If they trade the pick they got from Philly (the Lakers protected one/kings one) for a player I'm all for it

The #3 pick and next year's nets pick should be untouchable.

Wait out the Warriors basically

Nice...I used to work by the Cathedral building on the corner of Grand and Harrison. The food in that area is pretty dam good. Parking has become outrageous tho.

It's so tough to see past the smokescreens but I suspect that Gilbert has realized that GSW is going to reign supreme and he's not willing to pay $200M in luxury tax to finish 2nd. He got his title and place in Cleveland-lore and is content with it. He also probably sees the writing on the wall and knows that there is a decent chance that LeBron leaves again, so that is even further motivation for ending the chase.

I'm utterly fascinated by everything going on. The NBA fanboy in me would love to see LeBron team up with Popovich just to see their potential.

If I had to guess it would be that he was told not to give up anyone, so he had to decide between looking like Billy king trading away 3 draft picks and being made fun of, or leaving.

That's a total guess though

I just don't see how if he was allowed to trade Love there would be a "difference of opinion on the future". You could get a return for love

Kind of a shocking deal with the Lakers. They get to dump the atrocious Mozgov contract which is great, but man it seems really early to basically dump Deangelo Russell who is still very young.

James Harden was considered a bust the first two years of his career and things worked out for him. Russell is a playmaker and is 21, i think this works out for the Nets who basically have no other way to acquire a prospect.

Though if the salary dump leads to the ability to add a star via free agency, and Lonzo Ball works out....this is a success.

But man, if Russell comes out and lights it up for the Nets.

Is it possible the Lakers think they can add Lebron, Paul George and a third player?

Lebron may be out in Cleveland. The Lakers can offer the 27th,28th pick plus say Jordan Clarkson (12M a year) and even Julius Randle (5M) for Paul George. That may be a better offer than the Pacers get elsewhere. George's salary next year is "only" 19M

Then Lebron signs there. And they still might have money to offer CP3 a contract right?

I mean this is possible i think???? That would be Ball, Ingram, Lebron, CP3, George, Deng and fillers

Hmmmmm, my conspiracy theory radar is going off right now!!!!!

No wait, Brook Lopez salary makes that impossible.

So CP3 not realistic unless they can dump Deng

Not sure without the 3rd star that team is better than Cleveland

Letting Russell go is a definite risk, he will be an all star eventually. But I think Magic wants more maturity and leadership from him. He didn't pass the Mamba test so he's gone, it's simple.

Magic is trying to build a team that go on championship runs, not a team that contends. He's confidnent that great players will want to play for him. It's going to be fun to see what moves him and Rob make.

Lopez is an expiring contract and easy to trade at this point.

So, it appears Phil is shopping the Unicorn and has interest in Josh Jackson.  I know this all rumor so far, but if the Celtics traded the #3 and something else for Porzingis, how much better would they be?  How much of an upgrade would it be going from Olynyk to Porzingis?

Knicks would ask for #3, next years Lakers/ Sixers pick, next years Nets pick and Jaylen Brown.... What the hell is Phil doing trying to trade Porzingis?

That is a lot to ask for.  Three top picks plus Brown, who was a #3 pick.  That's basically 4 top picks.  I don't know that the Celtics would do that for anyone outside of maybe Davis.  Then again, I don't even think they would give up that much for Davis, not that he is not worth it.

Regarding Phil, I don't think even Phil knows what Phil is trying to do.

why would lebron ever go west. then he has to work hard during regular season and get thru GSW just to get to finals. not his style

I'm not saying there's no chance of lebron leaving I would just think he'd start something in the east. it seems so much easier

I really don't understand the ingram hype. lakers act like he is a surefire star in making. plenty of undersized highly skilled guys have entered NBA and succeeded immediately, a lot more success than 9 pts a game on a crap team. it's not like he was best player in country in college either. he's a good prospect but not a great one.

KD was best player in college, came into NBA and scored 20/game immediately. not expecting him to keep pace with KD's career but I just don't get all the hype over a guy who wasn't even the best player on his college team and averaged 9 pts a game as a rookie. yes he's still growing into his body but I feel like lakers expect him to be a superstar with their whole "untouchable" claims and all that

Once his nerves settle and his body fills out he can legitimately play and guard positions 1-4 (there are only a handful of these guys in the league). He has a very high ceiling, there is a reason Sac wanted him for Boogie and Indiana wants him for George and the Laker's make it known that they wont let him go. Im sure the Lakers feel that at his best he can be better than PG13.

Not all players acclimate that fast to the NBA. I know harden and kobe averaged sub 10 in points their rookie years and they turned out "ok".

correct but no one would have called a rookie kobe or harden untouchable

He was pretty good in college, he dominated the NCAA tournament. Ben Simmons didn't even make the tournament that year and many said he took nights off. Not sure how Simmons can be called the best player with those two things hanging over his head. Give Ingram some time, he is going to be good.
