I have a Ping hoofer filled with a set of Ping eye 2's 3-pw and some Cleveland 588 sand and lob wedges. What Driver and shaft should I get in stiff flex? I was thinking a 983k w/s300 or 510 tp w/757 I want to keep it under a $100 also.

In my opinion the 983k is one of the best drivers of all time. If you want a graphite shaft in it try the aldila nv65 but if you want steel I would go with the s300.

I have only hit the nv in an r5...hated it and a 905r which wasn't bad but I liked the stock speeder much better. I was thinking a 983k with a speeder but I never hit it.

Or how about a 975 J, JVS, or LFE. You can't go wroung with anyone of those three, not to mention I still have my 975 J in the bag as my gamer for the last 6 years, nothing has kicked it out of the bag yet.

I know I was thinking a 975d, but I have one at my rents house in my old high school bag. I have never hit a 975J, I am guessing similar to the 975d with a little bit more forgiveness? For some reason I want to go with a s300 in a driver since I am not going to play a 3 wood. Does the j launch any higher than the d with the same shaft and loft?

Ping TISI - It would go nice with the rest of that Ping gear. One of the best performing drivers under 460cc. I used to smoke guys hitting Titleist Drivers with that beast in my bag.

Titleist 975J, TaylorMade 360 or PING TiSi would get my vote.

Doesn't the TISI have the different hosel configs? I was looking at a few but I wasn't sure what was what.

975D gets my vote also. OR maybe a TM 200 Steel.

If you really want to go classic you should find a driver from the eye 2 era circa mid to late 1980's go with a Talyor Made Burner with a dynamic golf shaft, driver and 3w. I remember when a having a ping carry bag, a set of eye 2's, a 588 wedge and a anser putter was what all the play-uhs carried. You can probably pick one up for about $15

Callaway Great Big Bertha or Titleist 975D, if you want classic but still playable. Loved the TiSI as well but not sure i'd call it a classic.

Exactly what I was thinking, To me the 983 and 975J are not that old. The old Taylor Made burners were the original classic metalwoods.

I'd go 510TP or the 983.

What about the fairway woods? TM 200s?

Putter? Ping Anser 2

if you truly want to go classic I would match up the Ping Zing blonde driver... Those were sweet back in the day. There are a few on "thebay" as we speak.

What he said!

Plus the 983K is still comtemporary enough today, as are the Eye 2's, that you can still get the game improvement of today's technology. To go back to the original Burner or Ping Blondes wouldn't do that.

I also agree there needs to be a Ping Anser in that bag.

Thanks for all of the great ideas guys, I just picked up a putter last nite off globalgolf for like $29, of course it was an anser. Fairway woods are going to be hard to pick because the classic ones ie: pt is going to be tough to hit. I might hold off on one for awhile. I think I am going with a 983k, but what shaft would fit the classic mold?

983 is too new. My girlfriend is still hitting an 11.5 degree. You 20 year old irons and wedges along with a 40 year old putter and you are going to add a 5 year old driver?!?!?

C'mon now, if you really want to know what it was like to play in the 90's get one of the above mentioned clubs (975D or 975J, TM Burnt Orange Era or PING TiSi). Throw a True Temper EI70 in there and remember the glory days when guys like Payne Stewart were beating guys like Phil... When guys like Scott Simpson and Cory Pavin were every housewives fantasy... And David Duval could still break 72.

You can go to http://pinggolf.com/...s_classics.html and click on Tisi or Tisi Tec and the different hosel codes will be in a pulldown on the right side of the screen.

Assuming we're talking a classic all titanium driver, the suggestions above are all good - GBB, Tisi Tec, 975, 983 - all classics. And the Tisi Tec fairway might be the best fairway ever.
