Received the 3.5 LS today. My initial impressions are that it is a good blend between a traditional Three 5 and the ultralight 2 Five.
Weight: My 2015 Three 5 weighed 4 lb 11 3/4 oz, while the 3.5 LS came in at 3 lb 14 1/4 oz (both with the rainhood and straps). So they did cut close to 1 lb in weight. When I had 2 Five I weighed it at 2 lb 12 oz if I recall, so weight wise it's between a Three 5 and 2 Five. But doesn't feel as crazy light as a 2 Five based on how I remember it feeling.
Top opening: the 2015 Three 5 provided more room, but 3.5 LS still has plenty of room for 14 clubs (I typically carry 11 so not something I scrutinize).
Straps: I prefer the 3.5 LS straps, they're more comfortable and that bulky auto fit strap thingy is gone.
Pockets: Very much like that the scorecard/pencil pocket was replaced with the gps/rangefinder pocket. There's also a waterproof valuables pocket which I don't think I like as it is now harder to open vs Three 5. Water bottle pocket holds bottle more upright but Three 5 was fine. Otherwise pocket set up and room is same as a Three 5.
Stand/legs- somewhat different design but seems to work just as good as all Sun Mtn stands/legs.
Overall I really like the 3.5 LS, but based on the extra money it costs vs the Three 5 closeouts it's a tough call. I know on those days I walk 36+ I'll appreciate the 1 lb and comfy straps.
I'll add one more thought. I've also tried a Front 9 briefly this past season. The 3.5 LS makes the Front 9 obsolete in my opinion.
