I carry and walk whenever the courses I play allow it, which is about 1/3 of the time.  I really like the 2017 4.5ls 14-way, but am debating if I should go for a 2016 3.5, which are on sale online for ~$130, a real bargain.  The weights are about the same since I the 2016 non Light Series 3.5 actually weights over 4lb.

the 3.5LS actually weighs over 4lbs ? Are you sure ?

No he said the 2016 3.5 is over 4 lbs and closer to the 2017 4.5 LS in weight, not the 3.5 LS which is 2017.

The 3.5 LS is new to 2017.  What you're referring to in 2016 is the THREE 5, which is now the 4.5 LS in 2017.  Previous year's FOUR 5 is now the 4.5 LS 14 way.

I really think Sun Mountain really screwed the pooch with how it named the bags.  It's really confusing on the surface.

I have a 2016 Four5 and want to change colors, I have the Cobalt/Flash/Black now. It's cool but for every day, I think I would be happier all black. Do I buy a 16' Four5 in all black, or is it worth it to upgrade to the 2017. From the pics, I like the look of the through strap for riding (ride mostly) and hate that the 2016 doesn't have it. Also like the towel ring on the 2017.

Anybody move from a 2016 Four5 to a 2017? Would love to hear your thoughts about which bag and why you prefer.

A-HA! That explains the weight.  You're right that it's confusing as hell! I ended up pulling the trigger on the 2016 Three5.  Couldn't resist the <$120 deal from BudgetGolf.

I pulled the trigger on a 5.5 and am picking it up today.  I'm still having a hard time deciding between all black and the red/black.

I'll post pics and a review soon.

I'll post pics and a review soon.

- My first impression is that it seems like a more versatile SM XCR, which I previously owned.  Large opening and same four-way divider.

- X Strap is very comfortable.  I definitely prefer it over the other style of SM dual strap.

-  At first I did not care for the clear valuables pouch but I now see the benefit of being able to quickly see that your stuff is safe.  I'm not completely sold on it yet but I'm not as against as I first was.

-  Love the dedicated rangefinder pocket. One less thing I need to attach to the bag.

-  It's super lightweight!

-  I never put my towel on the towel ring, but my golf glove fits this new plastic towel ring very well PLUS I don't have to worry about the velcro from a glove fraying any nylon or fabric.

- Cart strap pass through is a nice touch.  I mostly ride so this is welcomed.

-  I was having a hard time deciding between the all black and the red/black.  I'm happy with my decision.

I just got the bag today so it's still very early, BUT I'm very happy with the bag and feel that this bag will suit my needs for quite some time.

I was using a Four 5 the last couple years and because I was used to a 14 way divider, I thought I was making a compromise by getting a 5.5 which has a 4 way divider.

Well I played my first round today (riding) and I really liked how much easier it is removing and returning clubs to the bag.  It doesn't sound like much but this simple process is now noticeably faster.

Anybody have experience with the 4.5 LS 4 WAY?

Long time hoofer user, tired of the tangle. I had a 2016 four5 14 way and was tired of the color and want the pass thru strap. Going to grab a 2017 4.5 4 way or 14 way, just wanted to hear about the 4 way from someone with experience. Love the quality and the straps on my 2016, just curious how easily the clubs go in and out and if people are loving their 4.5

Thanks you. I plan to order this week. Used my hoofer today and with experimenting with different clubs, and shafts as much as I do, 14 won't cut it but hoofer just tangles. Thanks for the recommendation.

Will do.  I ordered the 3.5 LS because it seems to be the 2 Five perfected based on the specs/description.  I briefly had the 2 Five and the weight was awesome but the lack of a readily accessible water bottle pocket and durable accessory pockets on the spine were its downfall in my experience.  I've had several iterations of the Three 5 and they've all been really good, but the 3.5 LS should be a big improvement if they truly dropped 1+ lbs.

I got a 3.5LS bag last week and really like the bag.  Like you, I liked the weight of the 2.5 but couldn't live without all of the pockets.   Walked 18 with the bag this past weekend and it was a joy to carry.  The X-Straps are really comfortable as well.

Received the 3.5 LS today.  My initial impressions are that it is a good blend between a traditional Three 5 and the ultralight 2 Five.

Weight:  My 2015 Three 5 weighed 4 lb 11 3/4 oz, while the 3.5 LS came in at 3 lb 14 1/4 oz (both with the rainhood and straps).  So they did cut close to 1 lb in weight.  When I had 2 Five I weighed it at 2 lb 12 oz if I recall, so weight wise it's between a Three 5 and 2 Five.  But doesn't feel as crazy light as a 2 Five based on how I remember it feeling.

Top opening:  the 2015 Three 5 provided more room, but 3.5 LS still has plenty of room for 14 clubs (I typically carry 11 so not something I scrutinize).

Straps:  I prefer the 3.5 LS straps, they're more comfortable and that bulky auto fit strap thingy is gone.

Pockets:  Very much like that the scorecard/pencil pocket was replaced with the gps/rangefinder pocket.  There's also a waterproof valuables pocket which I don't think I like as it is now harder to open vs Three 5.  Water bottle pocket holds bottle more upright but Three 5 was fine.  Otherwise pocket set up and room is same as a Three 5.

Stand/legs- somewhat different design but seems to work just as good as all Sun Mtn stands/legs.

Overall I really like the 3.5 LS, but based on the extra money it costs vs the Three 5 closeouts it's a tough call.  I know on those days I walk 36+ I'll appreciate the 1 lb and comfy straps.

I'll add one more thought.  I've also tried a Front 9 briefly this past season.  The 3.5 LS makes the Front 9 obsolete in my opinion.

I now have a Nike Sport Lite on order to compare to the 3.5 LS.  The search for the perfect bag continues

On the 3.5LS below the carry handle, is that a series of elastic loops for tees?

There's a plastic ring-type piece there as well, not sure what is meant to be clipped on there?

I'm not certain on this ring either but I hang my rangefinder case from this clip. I think I may have read that this ring was for an alternate strapping method (single carry?) but I haven't found anything definitive
