Lifetime golf goals:
1) Single digit.
2) Shoot a par round for 18 holes (have shot par twice for 9 holes, best round for 18 = 76).
3) Get a hole in one (have had two lip outs and three others within a foot).
4) Play 2-3 times per week instead of once per week now. I really like my job, but I cannot wait for retirement or perhaps someday I'll get an afternoon or two off a week to golf.
5) Play a round of golf at Harbortown - love the lighthouse!
6) Shoot my age someday.

I was a competitive tennis player into my early 40s. Played my first 18-hole round when I was 38...and never played more than twice in a year until I was 42.
My goal is to get to a plus-anything. It's the mental side of the game that holds me back; Sunday, had a 71, but had 3 3-putts, two from inside 25 feet.
I realize time is not my friend, but I believe I can continue to improve, and truly enjoy the effort to do so.

Just the other day I played a round at my club and all day long I was knocking the ball within 6 to 8 feet of the pin and I couldn't sink a put. I shot 73 and I'm telling you that I had 6 or 7, 10 foot or less putts for birds and I couldn't get them to go in, had only 1 bird the whole day. I should be banging those putts in the cup.
I am close, I can almost feel it, just need a little more work and it will come.
Kinda as a final note, as of Nov. 1 my index is at 3.8. I have worked hard this year and the game has definitely improved but there is a lot of room for improvement. If I could pick one thing it would be consistency, I need to work on stamina this winter because if I play two or three days in a row, my scores start to go higher. Looking forward to next year.

15.2
single digits
55 yrs
Played some golf in the 1970's and 80's. Didn't really take up the game in a serious way until a little over
a year ago. Joined GHIN about 6 months ago. First index came in at 19.6.
Getting an index has helped to focus my attention but my biggest problem still remains inconsistent
ball striking. In most every round I can actually impersonate a real golfer and play par golf for a 5 or 6
hole stretch. Then I'll hit a drive into the trees, chunk some irons, miss some easy putts and BAM!!...
I'm back to bogey golf.
Right now I'm kinda stuck in a mid 80's, low 90's plateau trying to get to the next level. The odd thing is
that it doesn't seem to matter what course I'm on. I play at many different courses and I shoot in the
same range whether the course is rated 68.7/111 or 72.5/130. Is this weird or what? I'm starting to
think it's all in my head.
I shot 80 once and it seemed so easy until I blew up with a double followed by a triple late in the round
and blew my chance of finally getting a round below 80. Recently, I played a round with a scratch
golfer and after watching me play a lackluster out nine he decided to speak and began exhorting me to
slow down and be smooth and deliberate... and to my surprise I shot 38 coming in. It probably is all
in my head but there is hope, at least.

The neat thing about golf with my late start in life I feel my best rounds are still to come; especially when I retire and have more time.
Current HC 16.4
Lowest HC 15.7 (the session before the last of this year, due to playing in Ireland and playing more)
Goal HC 9

And my lifetime goal is to beat my older brother. I figure I will have about a year or so at some point when he will be decrepit and will still be hale and hearty. Then I am going to smash him. Currently, he is the golfer and I am still "my little brother, the golfer wannabee".

My very best was a brief stint at 7 which was so long ago I actually had hair.
I'd love to see 9 again, but realistically, if I can keep my 11 well into my sixties, that will be good work on my part.

Lowest was a 6 for about two weeks on a couple of occassions about 4 years ago.
Now that I am getting older it is tougher to get it out there to have a chance to get onto the green on a long par 4. (420 or more).
My goal is to get down to a 5.
I went back to my "Golf Machine" instructor from 35 years ago and really hitting the ball more consistantly solid.
I wish this thread had an question. How long are you off the tee? (I would like to see the correlation)
I am about 225 to 235 at best in the NW.

Me too, a comparison of age and driver distance would be interesting to know. I'm quite a bit younger than you are, I'm (65). My driver distances are quite similar to what yours are, and I'm a mid-westerner
On those days that I do score well? Are those days I'm hitting fairways and hitting driver 230 235 average, and not 3 putting.
I'm truthfully getting better all the time but I'm also getting older, and age always seems to negate any benefits from my superior mental, and physical capabilities.

63 now, handicap is 5.3, used to be scratch when I was around the course everyday. I had some major heart surgery a few years back and I have never regained the game. Just curious, I hit the driver as far as I even did with the new technology. How do you hit it these days?
I play the senior circuit in Kentucky, but I am not competitive anymore, just enjoy the company and the bantering.

1. End of this season 11.1
2. Best ever 9.6
3. Hoping to get back in single digits this year with a little bit of work. That 9.6 was a very brief stint about 17 years ago.
4. I had some injury problems a few years back resulting in surgery on my right elbow... just as I was starting to get my swing back I broke my left wrist and slipped back again. My handicap had ballooned as high as 18 during that period, so I'm happy just to playing near the level that I had for the rest of the last 20 years.
I met the woman who is now my wife shortly after that 9.6 and I've never been able to devote the time to my game that I once did. Even then I wasn't all that serious about it. Now I have glimmers of what might have been, but at 62 I'm really going to have to work to accomplish my goal. Now that I'm retired and working part time at the course, I have no real excuse not to practice. I need to take a lesson and find out what it is about my swing that makes me tent to hit my irons toward the toe, and work on that and my chipping and pitching.

My 2009 goal: start playing more than two to three times a month. Right now my golf budget is only $100 per month which covers green fees and any other equipment I need to purchase. It looks like 2009 will be a better year finance wise so I should have more disposable income.
Best Wishes to everyone for a great 2009!

My hcp index is 11.1
I am a member at a club that is 132 slope, 6800 yrds, I walk it at least the 27 holes course every day, weather permitting,
for the 8 months of the season.
My goal/dream is to play 80 or better, I would like to walk on ANY course and tee off with anybody without any fear/doubt that I
could hold someone back. It seems to me that today, people want to play 18 holes in 3½hrs.........or LESS!
