I know this topic is exhausted, but some of the posts relevant are pretty old.  End of July trip planned, one round, based on cost and proximity should I play: Revere Concord/Lexington, Chimera, or Badlands.  All seem to be similar in cost and proximity. I am aware that Badlands is target golf. I would love to play Paiute, but I won't have time to rent a car.  What do you think? Any other recommendations? Thanks in advance.

Badlands. There are three nines and all three will challenge you. TPC canyons / Las Vegas is close by, give that a try too.

There is also Bears Best that you should try.

The other courses you referenced are good courses but the pace of play could be an issue.

It will be hot so have a wet towel on your neck or wet hat.

Have fun!

I was told that if you are not out on the course by 6am you should forget about it in August, unless you're a local and acclimated to the heat.  Thanks for the recommendations jcjmw2. We'll have to see what happens.

For an inexpensive summer round I usually do TPC Vegas or Piaute.   Cab to Paiute is about 80.00....TPC runs around 55-60.   Just factor it into your total cost find a deal on Golf Now and your good to go....beats playing a dump...and the cab ride may be cheaper then a single hand of table games.

Have fun

Of the ones you have listed Chimera by a mile. Was in great condition when I was there in May and they do some great value deals. The last couple of times I've played Badlands I have been disappointed by the conditioning, especially the greens.

Chimera looks to be around $80 in the early am, I might just drop the extra $40 to play Reflection Bay

Skip Revere unless you want to tear up your clubs in their rock filled bunkers.

2 additional options:

Stallion Mountain  (East Flamingo behind Sams Town), they run specials all the time and the course is in decent shape.

The Club at Sunrise (Formerly Desert Rose, located off East Sahara) Course just re-opened after being renovated but reasonable rates.

I played Chimera in early June and it was in great shape, if you haven't decided on a round yet I would throw Rhodes Ranch into the ring as well. Suspect range balls but I thought it was a nice layout and was in pristine condition a month ago, for about the same price as Chimera.

Heading out there in a few weeks. Considering Rhodes as our last round. Last year everyone on the forum said it was in terrible condition so we skipped. Hopefully it's still in good shape from when you played.

Skip Rhodes, their pace of play is always awful, plus the course itself isn't even that fun. It's easy and straight forward so if you want that kind of golf, go for it. The greens the last time I played there were bunk. One of them had replaced half the green with sod and it cut it down so it looked like someone road their ATV on it. It was ridiculous.

The Revere is a great set of courses but like Golfinnova said, the bunkers are just horrific. As long as you avoid them, I think you'll enjoy the course. Also, choose Lexington over Concord. Concord has a lot of elevation changes and is pretty narrow but a lot of the holes the rough angles to force the ball to roll to the center of the fairway so it's pretty forgiving as long as you don't go too far left/right. Lexington is harder, IMHO, but it's not as narrow and there are more forced carries. I think they're pretty close in length as well.

Rio Secco is a great course. I just played there July 4th. It has great views and some great holes. The greens were rolling pretty true as well. The one s*** thing was that some of their Fairway Bunkers were hard pan dirt from the nasty storm we had last week.

If you're going to go out to Chimera, just pay the extra money and play Reflection Bay. It's a hundred times better than Chimera, although I really like Chimera. Reflection Bay is typically always in good shape and their greens are usually pretty fast.

I haven't played Badlands since last September so I couldn't tell you what kind of condition it's in but it's worth playing even if it's target golf. I've always liked that course until the last time where the idiot marshal ran over a sprinkler head on the tee box and blasted me with mud water. I got a free hat out of it but that was it, hah. Someone also stole my Camelbak water bottle.

Also, don't take a cab any where. Take an Uber or Lyft. The cabbies out here are just terrible. Horrible drivers and the rate is more expensive than Uber/Lyft.

So, based on recommendations, we're renting a car for cheap, $45 for a day at Avis, and upgrading to play Reflection Bay. Thanks for all your input, I'll let you know how it goes... Cheers

So I just played Reflection Bay.  There were a couple major differences since I initially booked.  The range and putting green were removed and that property was sold.  I would have liked to have known that prior, but what can you do.  Staffers were awesome, course was perfect.  The greens were playing 11, and everyone  seems to repair their green divots.  I love the views and elevation changes.  Slightly errant drives can be saved on certain holes if the shot was only slightly offline, due to the concave, valley like fairways.  I still played it in more of a strategic target style versus the swing away approach.. Some of its holes run on the shoreline, with 17 and 18 being their masterpieces.

After returning home I noticed that they had an offer for some Travis Matthew apparel with round purchase, and although it had expired, I explained to them I had traveled from Chicago, and they didn't hesitate to take down my address and send me some gear.

Definitely happy with everything.  See you again.

So they don't have a range or practice putting green anymore? Reflection bay is my home away from home as my parents own a house in the first development, (actually right off the back of one of the old Falls golf course greens...).

That would kinda suck for me if they didn't have those two things anymore....

From what I hear they're going to have a Bali Hai style warm up range area but that sucks. I want to see my ball flight and hit off grass but for $25,000,000, I get it. At least they haven't torn down the course. 15 is one of my favorite holes and 10 for some reason is my arch nemesis. I can't get better than a bogey on that hole. EVER!

15 was far and away my favorite hole, I love the tiers and target aspect of it.  My drive made it parallel to that last bunker, but having never played there, I opted to lay up from 225 instead of challenging the green side bunkers. Birdied it so I was happy.

10 is my favorite hole. I'm pretty terrible, and I made par the first time I played it. I think it's cause I know that I'll never be on in regulation, so I just played to my strengths, layed up close, pitched into the hill so it would roll back on, and made the 1-putt. That might have been the best hole I played last year, just because it was the smartest hole I played.
