Thinking about ordering a set of forged irons in 'Value' condition.  They are a couple cylces old, and as other said it looks like any prior generation clubs seem to be listed as 'Value'.  Price seems pretty great, they're Callaway and this set is going for about $125 more on CPO in Average condition.

Don't care about bag chatter but do you think I should expect browning on the faces?

Like previously stated, I think it really is just luck.  I've ordered 2 sets of the same irons from them in value condition, one looked like it was used for maybe 2 rounds and the other had very bad browning on the faces.  Good luck

How easy is it to return them if they show up beaten to a brown pulp?

Just have to pay for return shipping. They have an automated process on their website.

If the irons aren't current gen, you are rolling the dice with Value condition. Even current gen you are still rolling the dice somewhat. Not to say that there aren't some exceptions, but as others have stated, it will be entirely luck of the draw.

Previous advice is accurate.  Forged irons, particularly a few generations old, are the riskiest buys from the "sight unseen" websites such as GG and CPO.  They're usually "value" or "average" condition, and you takes your chances.  But when the price is right and it is a model that I have my eyes on, I usually take the plunge.  It ain't life or death, and there is always the return option, trade option, or sale option if I am disappointed.  And I've run the gamut from blown away, to pleasantly surprised, to disappointed based upon the condition of the irons.

I bought a set of rsi 1 irons in very good condition last week. They arrived today & one of the face slots on the 5 iron was cracked and caved into the head. I'd say the clubs are in good condition and was a little disappointed they valued them the way they did.

Originally ordered an R15 3hybrid in value condition for $45, but realized there was no headcover. New headcover would be $15 from ebay. Called them up, cancelled the order before it shipped, and ordered the same club in mint condition for $68 with headcover. Figured it was worth the xtra $8 (including headcover) for a better condition club. Arrived today brand new in TaylorMade factory packaging. Awesome site!!!

Couldn't be happier! Top line and soles show definite use, but not abuse. Faces are relatively clean, and no browning.

Damn you guys!!  I decided to go for it... been thinking about a 4 hybrid, Srixon h45, so went over to the site and after all the discounts, got one for $35, value condition.  Unless it has zero paint on the crown, I can't see how this is a bad deal....  Will find out in a couple days.

Here you go! Found a BIG rock gouge in the 8 iron that I missed on my initial inspection (was more focused on the faces) that is probably the source of the value rating. Won't affect play, but might keep an eye on the bay for a cheap single one to replace it an use it for a practice club. Probably will just roll with it though. Still very happy for the price.

Grabbed a set of R7 TP in VG condition, 3-PW... with all the discounts the price was right...

When they arrived, the heads had very little wear, mostly some on the PW face but barely noticeable... what did kind of piss me off was the fact that the 3 iron has a TTDG shaft (no label) while the rest have NS Pro 8950 gh.  They were listed for sale with 1050 gh which I was really looking forward to trying out so I may be sending these back unfortunately.  The "value" h45 I got was in better shape than expected, couple small paint chips on the trailing edge and a barely noticeable sky mark, nothing too terrible so that will stay.

I got my global golf orders from their massive sale.  My M2 3 wood in Very good for $101 is 9/10.  Slight wear on face, but it is a "demo" club and is laser etched as such in the sole.

My cobra irons, also very good, are also fantastic.

My cobra hybrids rated very good are all 9/10.  I did get one with a skymark on the toe, but it doesn't bother me considering I paid like $20 each.

Im waiting for my set of value rated AP1 that are coming this week. Will post results.

I rolled the dice again on value hybrids after my first experience didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped and was pleased with the condition of the two I recieved this time around. Except, I have to call them today because the sole plate of the adams red hybrid came broken.

I got my 716 AP1 Value condition on Saturday, and they look great.  no dings, no gouges, just regular play wear.  I'd say easy 8.5/10 if I were to advertise in BST.

There was some glue residue from where previous owner probably had his contact info applied onto stickers/labels on the shaft by the grip.  I wiped it off with goo gone.

Very happy with my $323 set of current model AP1's.  :D

I've had good and bad luck with value condition but mostly good. I've been looking at irons and what I don't understand is when it says no label or worn labels on shaft? I like to know what I'm buying even if it's a good price. Also will any value condition have any browning? Do they accept trades if here is browning?

No lable means no shaft bands and worn labels means shaft bands may be worn off a little. You can always pull a grip off and check to see if the shafts are what they claim. Older value condition clubs will most likely have some browning. Newer clubs probably not so much. And yes they will accept trade ins with browning on clubs. I traded in a set of 712 mb's for a friend and they were browned pretty bad and they took them and gave him full credit.

That's funny I'm looking at some 712mb irons with x100. If those are the ones and are browned I will probably pass. Not sure I would buy a club if I had no idea what shaft was in it? I'm surprised to see some of the value condition pics being in such good condition but some terrible.  Wish they had a better grading system or actual pics. I know that is asking a lot due to the volume of clubs they have. I'm sure I will keep trading in and buying!!

With as good of deals as they have, it's almost always worth the gamble. Worst case scenario, if you dont like the condition, you can just pay like $8 return shipping and get your money back.

How would you guys rate the wear on these irons if the whole set was in good shape except the PW and 9 pictured here?  Worth buying expecting decent performance?

That may be the ones I traded in for my buddy lol. They were 5-pw, had x100 tour issue shafts and were + 1/2 inch in length . The labels were worn a little but still in tact. They aren't the worst browning I've seen to be fair but they were pretty browned out in the short irons.

How would you guys rate the wear on these irons if the whole set was in good shape except the PW and 9 pictured here?  Worth buying expecting decent performance?

Hope you know that you can re-edge the grooves back to original sharpness, and the face wear won't mean anything other than cosmetic....and, if that is gonna bother you, why play?

They're gonna get scratched up sometime anyway

The cosmetics are irrelevant to me.  I just didn't want to invest money in clubs that won't perform as well.  I just don't have any experience with Forged irons that are worn.

I've read mixed reviews on groove sharpeners and am a little torn.

Johnny Miller liked his grooves worn.
