Fifty something, thirty something has happened many times over the years - just not wrx worthy.

First time I managed to shoot in the 50s and break 90 was also the first time I broke 40 on the front nine of the course I played at home in HS and college so that was awesome (we had played the back first) playing with some great golf friends way back when. Actually one of them was the older brother of my future bride, and first time I broke 40 on the par 37 back nine was a few years later the day before I got married.

Then there was the balls flying over tiled roofs in Palm Springs round of about 110 a couple years ago one day and sub 80 the next - actually it could have been the other way around, all I really remember is at least five balls going over houses and being really hot.

48-36.  It was in a tournament, pretty embarrassing.

I also had a 54-40 once.

Last week I shot 31 (3 under) - 41 (5 over). The back 9 at our course is way harder, but that was still pretty hard to stomach. Folded the tent.

Fun round, was 45-32.  Tourney golf, 43-30.  No idea what happened, golf is hard...not that hard.

Probably 11 or 12 strokes.

First time I ever shot 30 on a front nine, I followed it up with a 40. But think I once went 31/43 in a tournament. That's the biggest difference I can remember.

I'm a 21 hdcp who is still trying to break 90 for the first time.   I shot a 42 on the front, and then proceeded to completely self destruct into a 57 on the back.   That one was painful.

Course:  Ike, Industry Hills, CA

I had the shanks on the front 9 and shot 45, then went berserk on the back and shot 34.  It was awesome because my playing partners wanted to start the money game on the back.  3 birds, 1 bogey, and 2 closest to pins later, walked away with some nice spending money.

I thought my head was going to explode on the front though...

I shot my best ever front nine, with a 38, and then a 52. It was one hot mother that day, and I was melting before I finished the front nine. Still, not bad for a 17 hdcpper. This tells me I should be shooting a lot lower than I am.

I've been playing really bad lately, and apparently the golf gods decided to cut me a break today. I shot 46 on the front, and after the last few rounds, the lefty BST was getting close to having a mega listing.

Then the gods showed mercy and I shot a 38 on the back. No birdies, and the two bogies were on the only two holes I went OB on. The actual number of strokes made would've put me in at even. Dumb game. Can't wait to back up that 38 with a 52 on the front tomorrow... Ha.

I've gone 48-38 a bunch of times. Went 47-36 this morning though. I've often felt like if I could just play 4 "practice" holes followed by 18 "real" holes I'd be down around a 1-2 hdcp.

Also: seems like most people in this thread have their lower 9 on the back. Wonder why? Less pressure? Figured something out? Body loosened up?

For me, it's my body getting loose. Bad lower back and I just don't always have the time to get to the range before a round. Some people hate hitting too many balls before hand, but I play best once I've hit 50 or so (50 yards and in included).

It also usually takes off once I've found my swing. If I hit a bad shot before a good one, I start searching for my swing and adjusting things. Once I find something I can roll with, I play well. Going to the range beforehand should, in theory, fix this issue haha. But it can also cause issues. Loosening up is the biggest factor. I can swing a driver straight away decently well, or at least well enough to get buy, but clean contact with irons when I'm stiff is almost impossible for some reason.

I set a course record in a tournament once for the highest score with six birdies. I shot 46 on the front nine and 32 on the back nine for the ugliest 78 I've ever seen.

We played Ina two man tournament a couple of weeks ago. One of the guys was a younger guy (32 I think he said). Very good player, very long. But also prone to being occasionally very wild.

Somehow this topic came up and he said he had put up a 30-52 Ina tournament.

Funny to see this today.  Went 42/31 today.  Front was tired, not feeling it, course has no range.  Bogey 10, ford something with the second shot in 11 and roll off six straight with 1 very lucky break involved and left two more in the heart a coupe rolls short.  Just happens once in a while something clicks just go with it. My two biggest turn around have both happened on that course.  Went 44/34 a few years ago.   You always hope whatever it was will stick around but usually not.  Lol
