Played a 9 hole course today, shot 53 the first time around and pulled everything left.

Older gentleman I was paired with told me I was swinging too hard and to stop abusing the ball.

Same 9 holes, shot 41 the second time around. He smiled and told me "I don't care if you hit PW or 7 iron, swing easier and hit the damn thing straight."

My best 9 hole score ever!

32/45. Birdied 1, holed out from the fairway for eagle on 2. Parred 3-9. Tripled 10 and blew up from there.

46 on the front (par 36) and 34 on the back (par also 36) at my home course. Pretty much every round I shoot at least 2-3 strokes better on the back. When the wind is up (it was that day) the front can play 5-6+ strokes harder as it is completely unprotected.

Saturday I was 52 on the front.  Didn't feel like I played any better on the back.    Missed a 10 foot PAR putt on 18 for a 41.  Funny game.

Not front and back 9
But the most dramatic was -8 thru 14th and +8 the rest of the way in for an even par round.  I still haven't recovered from that.

I was reminded of this thread after I saw Ikeda Yuta's score in his first round of the US Open yesterday: 5 over on the front nine, five under on the back for an even par round. Five bogies followed by five birdies.

54 - 40, made the turn grabbed a hot dog and it was like magic. I missed an easy putt for a 39 on 18. For a 16 index I was happy with the 40.

The one that stands out to me is when I won my first tournament as a kid. I was +7 through 7 holes, eagled 8 and turned at 40 (+5) then shot 29 (-6) on the back.

Bunch of years ago, played in a weekend skins game on a course I absolutely hated.  Shot 45 on front 9 (only par was on #9).  Then shot 31 on back 9.  (10 handicap at the time).  Won a bunch of money.  :)

Can't say for sure that it is my best, but a few weeks ago I had a round that was +9 on the front, then +2 on the back, going into 18 even on the back. Hit approach into bunker, overshoot the green into knee high rough (lucky it didn't go into creek), hack out, chip on, and one putt for a double, +2 back nine. Birdied 10, par par par, bogey 14, par par par, double 18.

just went 44-31 today...3 doubles on the front, then parred 10-14, finished with 4 birdies...

greatest differential was in a tournament 52-36...didn't win.

Just played today and had a career round going at -3 through 6.  Then I reach the second par 5 on the front and doubled even though I was not in trouble at any point.  Finished even par on the front after making bogey on 9.

Back 9 I had a couple blow up holes.  Par on 10 but wheels fell off and doubled another par 5 11th, after once again not losing any strokes on lost balls.  Finished with 4 straight bogies for a 43 on the back.  While it's not my biggest difference and I still finished with a 79, I felt like I lost focus and a lot of strokes on the back 9 were lost due to focus.

I don't get to play much these days with 2 kids under 4, so to break 80 was big for me.  And I played all 18 with the same ball, which rarely happens as well.  Mater of fact, it's the same ball I played with the entire last round I played too.  36 holes with one ball and broke 80.  :beach:

I assume, regardless of handicap or actual magnitude of the score, when there's a big difference in front-to-back-nine scores, it feels just a million times better after the round when the back is the lower score!  A million times. This is universal, right?

A few years back I shot a 52/37, but that wasn't good enough: the following year I did it in reverse 37/52. Though, that doesn't bother me half as much as when I bogeyed the last 4 holes to shot an 82 instead of a 78...~.~

30 shots....

No kidding. I was playing in a 9 hole league after work 8 years ago. One week on the front I shot 33 on a Par 35 (-2)
The next week I shot 63 on the back 9. I shanked almost every shot. I wanted to walk off after the 12th hole, but my playing partners convinced me to stay.
It was also the most humiliating round I ever played.

It was what initiated me to change my swing and discover the Slicefixer thread and GolfWRX.

Senior year public high school championship.   Shot 39 on the front in the pouring rain.  Two and 1/2 hour wait to start the back nine.   Stopped raining and shot a blistering 54.

Two years ago  played in the first tournament  at a private course I just joined, was a 5 handicap.  Shot a 48 on the front, the guys asked if I was really a 5,  three putted 18 for par and shot 31.  Again they asked if I was really a 5, was I lower.
