Today I started par par and followed by shooting the worst 9 in my adult life......an embarrassing 53. I'm a 8.9 on GHIN.  I then proceed to shoot 38 (+2) on the back and could have very easily shot even par with 2 missed par putts from within 4-5'.

I had two massive blowup holes and really didn't hit a single good shot on the front.  The back 9 was a completely different story.  I couldn't miss a putt and made 2 birds.  I left the course thinking that was the worst golf and best golf I've ever played in the same round.

Usually I'm a slow starter and finish better on the back, but today was brutal.  So what's your biggest differential from front and back nine in the same round?

Last tournament, first round i went 56-33 front-back 9. I'm about a 12 hdcp. Back 9 is easier there tho hahaha but a 56 was incredibly bad. I was nervous.

54-39.
Had some major driver woes last year. Played driver all front. Hit 3 iron of the tee and shot 39 on the back. Amazing how different the game is when you are in the middle every time.

Earlier this year I went i think i went 47- 39 and really should of been about a 37 but it is what it is. I am still getting back into playing after a few years of limited play,  Back when I did play on the regular I did pull a 45-35 one time, that's always fun.

Played in a tourney at my club and shot even the first 9 holes (par 37) as we have 3 par 5's on the front.  Made the turn and shot 48, which is 13 over on the back which is shorter and easier to score on (par 35) and can't explain what happened.  It's like something I forgot how to play golf after I made the turn.

Last year shot a 47 on the front then turned around and shot my first (and only) sub-par 35 on the back. Unfortunately the end of last year was full of 9-12 stroke differences from front to back. Don't know what my deal was.

I once flew home from Miami late on a Friday and had an early tee time on Saturday.  I shot 60 on the front, and would have called it a day after nine if my wife hadn't shot her best ever 9 hole score. (I've been golfing since I was 12, and never shot 60 for 9 holes before or since).

After a double on 10, Something clicked on #11 and I shot 39 on the back with 3  birdies. She had a personal low 18 hole score, and I saved 100 and set the unofficial course record for front vs. back differential.

48-37 for an 85 in a tournament earlier this summer. Hit the ball like a** on the front then striped it on the back. Missed 5 7 footers for birdie too. I saw a hot girl I work with putting on the practice green at the turn and she watched me go O.B. on 10. I decided if I ever wanted to play with her, I better get my a** in gear. Stuck shot 4 to 2 feet and bogeyed it. Played really well the rest of the way. Here's the pretty thing: https://iga.bluegolf...1/scorecard.htm

45-33

The biggest difference was, I shot a 45 - grabbed a 6 pack of beer on my way to the back 9 - drank 1 per hole for the next 6 holes - and could literally do nothing wrong :cheesy:

Funny how a little relaxation and aiming fluid can help!

Last Saturday - 36-43.  The 36 (had 1 birdie, 1 double bogey, par is 35) could have been a 32 - I lipped out 4 birdie putts that could have just as easily gone in.  The back was a different story - started bogey, par and then off a cliff - 2 doubles, 3 bogeys but rebounded with a birdie on 18 to make the beer afterward taste much better.

Good stuff, I don't feel all that bad now that it happens to everyone.  Since the good shots came on the back 9, I actually wanted to keep playing but didn't have the time.

Fathers day about 15 years ago.... shot 32-48. I was on fire on the front 9 (-4), playing with my brother and Dad (playing for drinks/bragging rights). By the turn, they had given up, and basically gotten drunk and spent the back 9 heckling me and acting like a-holes (I was in my mid-20's at the time). I was so pissed off by the end, I stopped talking to them and cancelled our "Fathers" day dinner that night. I didn't speak to either one of them for over a month afterwards. Horrible experience....

Biggest display of d-baggery by my family.... EVER.

(still a sore topic for me, even after all these years).

In a junior tournament about 6 years ago I went 38-57 for a smooth 95. This past Sunday I shot 50-37 with 4 triple bogeys on the front nine, I'm currently playing off about 3. It happens, sometimes the wheels come flying off and sometimes you're able to get them back on. If you play enough golf, this kind of thing will happen.

Just last weekend 38-47. Back 9 I just could not get off the tee with any club and found every bad place I could. Of course, I blame it on the slow group we were stuck behind. They were in no hurry and got mad when we asked to play through.

2014 drove down to Myrtle Beach solo from PA to meet up with the guys, left at 2am pulled up at Prestwick to play 18 at 11am. Went 60 on the front, 40 back. First round of the year coming out of a brutal frozen winter.

Crikey, there are some impressive ones here, but snoilr1's is the best so far.

Mine is 46 (10 over) on the front, 35 (1 under) on the back. I started double-bogey (OB), double-bogey (OB), bogey....After the first nine, we stopped for lunch (this is normal for Japanese golf), and one of the guy's I was playing with casually mentions that I was aiming everything off to the right. Fixed my stance on the 10th tee, and went par-birdie-birdie.

36-53

On the 9th, my buddy mentioned that if I make this putt...I'd be 1-under on the Front. Sure enough, missed the 3-footer and proceeded on the back to slowly Sink my Ship. The funny thing is.... I've never shot Par (front Or back). I'd love to blame his big Mouth...but I know it's my "Fat Head" that got me.

Last week shot a 42-50 and the round prior I went 45-52. On both rounds, I had horrible starts to the back 9, triple/double and bogey/triple/quad respectively. It almost seems like I don't know where my swing went or even remember how to swing a club and it trickles down to everything else, then I slowly regain form as I finish the round, but the damage is already done.

As a 20 hcp, I am actually encouraged by this. It shows me that what I have been working on and the practice I have put in is making me progress and get better. I just need to find a way to carry it over from the front 9 to the back 9. This has me looking forward even more than ever to the next ball I hit, the next range/practice session, and my next round.

The first was a very frustrating 39-50. 39 isn't anything special for a lot of guys around here, but I was a 12 hcp at the time and had never broken 40 through 9 before. Got way too excited and tried protecting more score. I play aggressive and swing hard, and trying to protect my score by not doing that got my tempo, nerves, and everything else out of whack.

The second was less frustrating outside of thinking about what could have been.. 44-37. Nearly a stroke per hole better on that side. It was a satisfying and frustrating round all at the same time. It was an 81 with only 1 birdie, two doubles, and that meant I made a ton of pars that day.. lol. Still felt good, just could've easily been much better..

I just need to find a way to carry it over from the front 9 to the back 9. This has me looking forward even more than ever to the next ball I hit, the next range/practice session, and my next round.

Try not totaling your score. Some of my better scores come from not seeing that number after the front 9. You'll know you're playing well, but often times you'll end up better than you thought.

Played in a qualifier for a local event a week ago and went 43-29. Hit a ton of really good shots on the front with some bad breaks as well as a couple of bad swings which led to bogeys. Back basically everything was bouncing my way and the score reflected it. Lots of ways to shoot even par. Thankfully comfortably made it through to the event, but after the 43 on the front, I was a little worried.

Played a tournament at TPC Rivers Bend a few weeks back.  Shot 12 strokes worse on the front nine than on the back.  13 more putts on the front nine than on the back.  Weirdest part is that we started on 6.  I 3-putted #10, then the better putting started on #11.  When we finished #18 and proceeded to #1, my bad putting started right back up again.

Thanks for the tip! I will give it a try next time. I usually put my score for the round and the keep track of the total # over par, but don't carry over that number and start fresh on the back nine. But, I think these last two instances, I was really aware of how well I played on the front 9 and thoughts started running through my mind and I may have started pressing on the back when things went array. So possibly not knowing the total score will hopefully help me to be a little naive to where my score sits. Also, I really need to make sure I am properly hydrated and energized with food to keep both my mind and body fresh.

I don't keep score but track how many over/under par during the round.  It's easier math :)

My brother has a saying that he frequently reminds me of when we are discussing our weekend rounds - You're handicap will find you.

Seen it work both ways....

Blow up on the front, no pressure on the back.
Kill it on the front, too much pressure to maintain on the back.

Also...

Not enough warm up on the front, loose on the back.
Warm and ready on the front, fatigued sets in on the back.

Then of course it all depends on what time the golf gods wake up on the weekends....
