Im looking to upgrade my irons this summer and I'm down to 3 sets.

I prefer longer heel to toe looks, my previous sets are Titleist 962's, Mizuno Comp EZ, Hogan FTX, and Srixon i506.

I play about 15 rounds a year and shoot between 82 and 86. My 7 iron distance with the Srixon i506 are 145 yards.

How do the J15CB, 850 Forged, and PING IE's compare to each other?

I would go with the 850F. Cheaper and free steel shafts with grip upgrades. Sounds like you need Reg. shafts too?! ;)
Bag set-up currently under construction..............again.............help?!

The J15CB are the most forgiving, longest playing,  yet soft feeling irons I've ever owned (or hit). There is a cult following for MP-53s because of these exact characteristics....I owned them and NOTHING could touch them for the last four years. Fast Forward to last year....I bought a set of J15CBs paired with 125S Modus 3s. They benched my 53s in a WEEK (one round and one practice session). That's how good these are.  And rightfully so, now the J15CB have a rather large following on here.

Amazing iron set.

Disclaimer:  heads are a little heavy compared to some,  especially if you prefer sub 125g shafts.  The sole is thicker then most CBS, but as you know,  they Work for Kuch and Sneds without a problem. 😎

+1 on the J15cb. Might be the best all around cb out there right now. So solid.

Can't speak for the ie as I've never hit them, but the J15cb's are what kicked the 850F out of my bag last season.  I find the cb's to have a softer feel, less prone to digging and slightly more forgiving on thin and fat misses, roughly equal in forgiveness heel to toe.

And unless the pricing has changed for both sets, I don't remember there being a significant difference there.
Unfortunately, I think I read somewhere that the Bridgestone is finished with its production run of CB's.  So whatever is out there is what's left.  Might want to send a note B'stone directly to confirm.

j15cb here as well.  I owned all three sets you've named, multiple times. There are good reasons why the j15cb's are the ones that I kept.

I'd go with the mizuno's if you like the longer blade length. The bridgestones will probably be the least forgiving of the bunch and the Pings have too much offset for my tastes.

That being said i would also consider something like an mp 54 too

Depends on if you care about offsets and top line thickness. To some, this is a priority, some dont care. If this is a concern, choices would be BS, JPX, Ping. If you want forgivness, I'd reverse the order.

I have owned all three sets so I can speak to each from my experince. The 850f were okay but I couldn't get them to work for my swing and I think I was fitted improperly so I returned them to the PGA SS and went with the specs that I have played in my old i20 irons and they played great. For cast these feel pretty soft and you have a choice of a handful of quality shafts. Then I tried the J15 CB irons and I honestly was expecting to have a pretty set of forged irons that would sit in my room like a nice decoration piece. I was wrong on that one. They are actually more forgiving for me and I put a set of PX LZ in them to try at the same time. I get a nice piercing flight and smooth feel. For CB's these have great distance and I dont lose alot of distance or direction on mishits. I had a 5 iron into a 200yd par 3 into the wind that I thought I hit terrible and would be 30 yds short but ended up with a short 10-15 yd pitch onto the green for an easy par. the 4 iron is pretty easy to hit and now I have a 4h with no use unless I go back to my Ping's. The Ping's will always be my reliable set to go back to since the feel comfortable for me but the J15's are starting to make me change my mind. Bridgestone also offers some pretty nice shafts at no cost as well. The 850F arent the softest forged because of the boron and do get some good distance boosts. Plus as others have said the no cost steel shafts and grips are a nice touch. If you get the 850f order with MP ferrules as they are longer and give the irons a more players look

Don't be...they are EXTREMELY forgiving for a Professional CB. Truthfully they are the most forgiving CBs on the market.  I would compare them to VRS Forged, CF16s, and Srixon 545s in forgiveness...yet they play like the MP-53, 745, and Apex Pro.  With the Modus 3 125S, they are a match made in Heaven.

Try them if you can or buy sight unseen, either way, you will be more then satisfied. 👍

being a lefty Im also kinda waiting to see what Srixon does this summer. Ive always loved Cleveland and I hear the 745's test off the charts. How do they compare to the J15 CB's.

Sends is my favourite player on tour, maybe i need to game the same as his!

I find the CBs more forgiving then the 745s with a slightly thicker topline. Similar awesome soft feel.

I've never hit the Bridgestone.  The apex is longer than the other 2.  All are nice irons really.  The 850 is longer heel to toe compared to the Apex, more in line with the ie.  The Apex launches high with lower spin though.  I like the flight of the apex since irons will stop on greens.

I might get a set of j15cb and have a shootout with the apex - sell the loser (although the lefty BST isnt moving right now)....

If you have trouble consistently hitting the center of the club face, get the iEs.  Higher ball speed on off center hits compared to the other two.  Not a huge difference, mind you, but could be the difference between being in a bunker vs being on the front edge of the green.

Bumping this thread.

I have been gaming the Ie1's since last March (had a stint with the s55's and they were fantastic, but didn't need 2 sets of irons). I just snagged a very good (global golf) set of J15 CB's this week because I had PP money burning a hole in my pocket and couldn't turn them down.

For thos that have played both the Ie1 and the J15 CB, what can I expect making the jump. I am pulling the shafts and installing an extra set of Modus 130 to the same specs as my Ie1's.

I'd definitely recommend the J15cb irons.  Very forgiving for a forging, and have that wonderful feel.  You could easily play them all the way to scratch as you improve.

J15 CB's all day.  I had a set of the 850 forged and they just didn't work for me at all, and I really thought they were the "one".  I really wanted and thought they would work out.  Something about them, I just can't pin point it, but for one they dug on me like crazy, and sometimes seemed a bit clunky.  The J15's are as forgiving to me, and long as well.  The sole grind really helps with my swing on any type of surface or lie.  I gave the I200 a shot also, not being a Ping guy really, but I thought they are the best looking Ping iron besides the Iblade.  Just didn't give me the feel that I wanted.  I think you would be hard pressed to find a forged CB with the playability, forgiveness, and distance (control) as the J15 CB's.

I went from a set of Apex to J15CB and have not noticed any drop in forgiveness what so ever.

This is exactly what I like to hear. I have bagged the Ie1 last season and this as well and out of sheer boredom, wanted to try the J15 CB's. I have always loved the look of them and the response to the feel, and playability is fantastic. They should be out for delivery today (fedex site is having issues) but they were at a location less than an hour from me last friday so I am hoping to get them reshafted and ready to play this weekend.
