8th hole, 147 yds par 3. I hit a 7 iron to 9 inches of the hole, with my playing partners yelling at the ball to go in. Closest I've ever come to an ace.

Same round, 5 holes later. In the middle of the fairway, 5 wood in hand. For some reason, I looked up before hitting, just  as I was reminding myself to stay loose, never mind the water, breathe, you can do this, don't f*** this up.
I wound up topping the ball, which went about 20 feet.
Arrrgh.

Shortish par 4, slight dog leg.  Tried to lay up short of the bunkers, tee shot hit hard in the fairway and rolled up within about 4 inches of the front lip.  Took the 60 degree wedge out, hit just behind the ball and it landed a few feet from the hole.

Of course, missed the putt.

Worst- 16th dogleg right par 4 can go over the corner with a nice fade and end up 30-40m from the green so looking for a bird to keep a solid round going - end up with a sky mark on the driver crown a ball sails into the deadest of dead spots in the trees. Leads to a double.

Best - equal drives on 17 and 18. 17 is a 290m par 4 into a 15-20kph wind crushed a drive dead straight with a good forward kick to 2.5m from the pin.
18 slight dogleg right wind off the right with a tiny bit of help over the corner to 75m out middle of fairway gps measured the drive at 324m.

Best:
Caught up to a couple on the tough par 3 on my home course and they told me to play though. Hole was playing 190 into a strong headwind. Hit my hybrid absolutely perfect to within 4 feet.
Usually I end up topping it when I catch up to someone and play through, so it was nice to hit a good one for a change.

Worst: Missed the putt

One of my partners in this weekends dogfight hit what I thought had to be his worst shot of the day on the 4th hole. He was about 25 feet from the hole and three feet into the fringe. Tried to chip the ball with a 9-iron and literally got it stuck in the ground (fringe) before it reached the ball.

But no, that wasn't it. He patted down the big chuck of torn turf behind his ball and tried the shot again. Caught the same chunk he had torn the first time and dribbled the ball forward a couple feet.

And to think, most golfers say they wish for "consistency". That was pretty darned consistent, right there.

A sensible man will realize that the eyes may be confused in two ways---by a change from light to darkness or from darkness to light; and he will recognize the same thing happens to the soul.

My best and worse came consecutively.  A rather memorable hole.

Short par 4, the stereotypical go for it or lay up type of hole.  Only about 270 to the flag, but of course lots of traps and it's fairly narrow.

Worst shot was a pull hook OB on the drive when trying to go for it.  At this course, all OB is actually a red hazard since this course is lined with natural areas you aren't allowed to go into.

Best shot, after my drop I had about 50 yards off of hard pan.  Over a bunker, but under a tree.  I punched a 7 iron just over the trap and under the branch, rolled onto the green and in for a birdie.  Crazy game.

Worst:  duffed wedge from 5 ft off the green. NoNono....it was the double hit out of the rough 15ft from the pin. Wtf!?!?

Best: 3h from 215 out. Missed left and long of the stick but on the green in 2 on a par 5. Left a 50ft snaking putt lol. But it felt good after the hole before that I double hit the wedge.

Worst was a wedge from 20 yards out. Went at a 45 degree angle to the right and left me another 20 yard wedge shot from the right of the green

Best was a 20 foot putt up hill then down hill with about 6 feet of left turn.  Stopped one rotation short of dropping in the cup. Tapped in for par

Best:  Threaded the needle with a 3W between some bunkers right up to the front edge.

Worst:   The literal 3 foot topped drive that preceded the needle threader.

Best: Probably the 52 deg wedge I stuck to 3 feet from 110 out for a nice uphill birdie putt.
Worst: Unfortunately the trusty 4 wood gets to go in the "worst" category for once. Tried to hit it a little too hard, resulting in a massive top that went maybe 20 yards. Nearly missed it completely.

Hit a really cool 3-iron stinger off the tee for a short par 4 - it was one of those shots where I golfed my ball the exact way I intended.  Worst shot came after I ripped a drive on hole 1, I'm right in the middle of the fairway and just shanked my 7 iron.  Double bogey.

#10 at Del Lago, Vail Arizona.  Severe downhill that doglegs left.  Fairway runs out at about 240 with bunkers and desert if you hit down the center of fairway.  Even I can reach that.

Took the blind "Tiger Line" over trees and desert, caught the center.  Screams off the clubface like a laser clearing the corner right over my target.  Ends up center of fairway 70yds past the bunkers and 80+ yds past the rest of the group.  Hit a mediocre short iron to 20 feet and 2 putted for PAR.  Who cares what the rest of the group got but it wasn't close to PAR.

Worst shot was an entire hole. The worst being a hero shot out of a storm damaged bunker trying to get it on the green when I should have gone out sideways like I did the next shot.  Took a 9 on a PAR 4 after only being one over on the back through 14 took the 9 on 15.  Ouch!

Best: 3/4 Knock-down punchy PW from 75yds off a wet mushy lie in the fairway.  Hit an inch in front of the hole and hit the pin.

Worst:  Missing a 3 foot par putt after a great lag from 65 feet.

Worst shot - 227 left on par 5. Hit the 3 hybrid looking to cut it to take a little off. Double cross and hit it in the hazard. Made bogey on a reachable par5 to go 1 over thru 6 or 7.

Best shot - 18th. Par 4, 217 to the pin. Hit a high fade 3 iron to 20 feet. Missed the putt.

Best: Fourth shot on a par 4 after I'd got caught in the treeline. 60 yards from pin with a strong breeze from the right. Partial/gentle swing with my 64 degree wedge and it flew in a nice little curve and dropped a foot from the hole and pretty much stayed there. Nicely recovered to a bogey.

Worst: A lot of what happened after the 8th hole. My new swing deserted me for a couple of holes then as I worked out the problem (taking eye off ball too early) the spitting became drizzle and the temperature dropped and I just fell into survival mode. Walked away with a 96 when the first 8 holes suggested high 80s.

worst was my first shot of the day. On #1 tee and a long, high hook into the trees. still managed to save par with a great 2nd shot.

best was #3 par 5. long drive and left about 150yrds out. a smooth 8i with a front pin and stuck it within 8 inches for a tap in eagle. another was #7 and got a long drive which left about 70yrds to a front pin. a smooth chip with my 52* bounced twice and stopped about 3ft from the hole. made it for birdie.

Worst: bunker shot on a par 5 being greenside in 2. Very little sand in the bunker and thinned it over the green, under a large overhanging oak, with a bunker under it. Needed a miracle shot to hit the green and I didn't have that and caught the tree branch falling into the bunker. Turned a reasonable birdie opp into a smooth snowman pretty quickly.

Best: can't remember one. One of those days. :(

best: 4i off the tee on a 320yd (one pace closer to the stone at 321, although the app/gps said 315 to center) baby draw up the right side landing dead center of fairway 85 to the middle - I fail to believe I hit it 235yds (I know, it wasn't all carry but I don't think I rolled 50yds either) I was amazed as I was further than both my playing partners. regardless of carry or roll....boy did it feel good!

of course the 7i from 165 out of the fairway bunker to 4ft of the green wasn't bad either...put it on the three and one putted the par (whew!)

worst: 4i from the right rough of a par5, trying to lay up to 100. s***ked it and landed on the green of the 1st hole...I was on 5. oops!

Best - After a perfect tee shot, I had 56y to a front flag. It came out really nicely, bounced once, twice, then pulled back and nearly went in. Set up a nice tap in birdie.

Worst - Opening tee shot was completely topped and maybe went 100y.

Got a plugged ball just off the green, six or seven yards from the flag. No relief.
My three options were to try a normal chip, to blast it like a bunker shot or to use the front edge of a lobwedge and try to get the ball to roll up and out of its hole.
I went with the third option and the ball popped up as if in slow motion and as soon as it touched the green surface it picked up speed, there was so much top spin. The ball came to rest a couple of feet from the hole and my playing partners were duly impressed. Then I missed the putt.

Big dogleg right par 5.  Tried to power fade my D but hit a low laser into a tree trunk about 75 yards down the right side of fairway.  sigh (everyone was like DAMN that thing would've been huge). Ball bounced deep into OB rough.
re-teed and hit 3w long and straight but it started moving right toward the end, wind and the fairway helped it out, ended up 301 from the tees, dead center of fairway.  left me with a 234 4i downwind into the green - which of course I missed 5' right of the green, bounced off a little hillside away from the green down into a drainage.  Grrr.  I was pin high though!  :)
