Well being from SK I know that there can be a lack of info on the good courses in Saskatchewan so I thought I would start a list of nice courses for people who may be in or passing through this beautiful province of mine. For anyone flying in I'm sure it will be to one of two City's, Saskatoon, or Regina. So if you are looking to see where these course are in relation to the major airport cities use google maps to get an idea, keeping in mind you will never be held up by traffic it's wide open to get up and go.

I haven't played much in the South Eastern part of the Province but I'll send of a PM to someone I know in that area that could give a listing of some good courses.

The list:

Dakota Dunes Golf Links (Just outside Saskatoon) Great 18 hole Links course, best in the province top notch practice facility, the course is a real challenge.

Green Hills Golf Club (Green Water Provincial Park) Front nine cut through deep forrest with punishing fesqu, you must play target golf, back nine opens up a bit, and lets you stretchit out with your big stick, probably one of the most awe inspiring golf courses in SK.

Elk Ridge Golf Resort (Minutes from Waskesiu National Park) This 27 hole resort is a dream getaway in the Northern SK forest, each 9 offering something a little different, great rental condo's right on the course.

Evergreen Golf and Country Club (Nipawin) This 18 hole course is one of the North East's best kept secerets carved through the Pines this course is always imaculatly maintained with one of the best Sunday Buffets in the club house I have ever seen. Also have Condo's on site for a stay and play package.

North Battleford Golf & Country Club (North Battleford) One of the oldest City's in SK and former capital of the original North West Territory, this 18 hole course has a spectacular view of the Saskatchewan River Valley that provides the backdrop for one of the most scenic and challenging golf courses in the province.

Deer Park Municipal Golf Course (Yorkton) This course offers everthing one looks for in a course giving you a differetn look every hole, the signature par 3 8th hole has an elevated tee box to a green gaurded by a pond with beautiful fountain in front, and thick bush in the rear, don't miss this green.

Cooke Municipal Golf Course (Prince Albert) This is a course that will challange you from tee to green, this is a test for those who fancey themselves good putters the greens are known to be slick and very tough to read, a great course that is always in amazing shape. Home of the 2004 Canadian Ladies Amateur Championship.

Jackfish Lodge Golf Course (Jackfish Provincial Park-Near North Battleford) This is a great place to stay and play, with a full service hotel on site, this 18 hole course has gorgeous views of Jackfish lake this will be a trip for all to enjoy.

Melfort Golf & Country Club (Melfort) I had to list this course as it is my home course, this 18 hole course has two practice greens, and full driving range. This course will challenge your short irons, and putting stroke heavily tree'd in the front, and having water in play on 5 holes on the back nine will penalize a player. If you make it out ask if Dee K is around, I usually am, and can show you around and maybe try a take a 10 spot off you : ) Also host to the 2008 SK Provincial Men's Mid Amatuer July 8-11.

Well hope that is some great info for anyone who is looking to enjoy some SK golf, again I'm going to try to get someone in the South to list a few courses. Again this is just a list of some courses that I think are some of the best, if you want a full listing of golf course in SK go to:

I have played every course you have listed (Deer Park is my home course). And I would agree that if they were in Ontario they would all be highly rated. I see that as a good thing as it keeps the locals cost down and the courses aren't as busy.

Some more you could add: Madge Lake, White Bear, Kenosee, Deer Valley, I could go on for a while.

If anyone from the Southern Part of the Province wanted to add to the list with a little blurb about each course it would be much appretiated, I don't play much down south, will play Estevan a few times this year, and would like to get a round in at White Bear, and Deer Valley, but would love to hear about some of the courses in the South East, and South West parts of the Province.

I'm from Loon Lake and work at that course so I have to give props to it. It's a 9 hole tourist course but the superintendent and myself are golf nuts and we got the course in super good shape this year. Our greens were stimping about 11.5 or 12 in July. Short course (3300ish from the tips), but there's a ton of trees, some water, and some amazing views. One of the most scenic courses in the province. Cheap as dirt to play too! It was rated at 72 this year with a slope of ~130, and it's only 3300 yards, so you know it's a tight course!

Also, like loomsey says, Northern Meadows is very nice. The 17th hole there is one of the nicer holes in the province. The front 9 is fairly short and heavily treed, but the recently built back 9 is much longer and more difficult. The 10th hole plays 610 and is almost always into the wind; I don't think I've ever seen someone hit that green in 2! They have a top notch superintendent and as such the course is always in fantastic shape. Highly recommended. It's only about a half hour drive from Loon Lake so if you're ever in North West Saskatchewan, these are two must-plays.

Meadow Lake (about a 45 minute drive from both Loon and Northern Meadows) is a nice course as well. Almost entirely poa, so it takes a while for the course to fill in after winter, but once it does it's lush and beautiful. The front 9 was designed by the guy who designed Silver Tip, one of Alberta's top courses. Another Northern course to check out.

I go to school in Regina, and I've played most of the courses around here, so I'll give two more quick reviews:

Deer Valley: Probably the most scenic course in the province. The second hole is amazing. The beauty of this course lies in the elevation changes. There are about 4 or 5 tee shots in which the tee is elevated at least 100 feet above the fairway. It wasn't in the best of shape this year, but that's to be expected as earlier in the year their superintendent passed away and they functioned without one for the better part of the season. Great course.

Emerald Park: just outside of Regina on the # 1 towards Winnipeg. This course has a ton of water and very few trees. It is without a doubt the windiest course I've ever played. This is very much a links style course. It wasn't designed the greatest; some of the holes are almost ludicrously hard. The 16th comes to mind: a longish par 5 that always plays into the wind and has a very tight fairway with a creek lining the left side of the hole and more water on the right on the approach shot. In a 60 mph wind this hole just isn't fair. Emerald Park was in fantastic shape this year and this is why it deserves some merrit. The greens were lightning and the course was nice and green. Very challenging, but fun course.

You might want to repost this when it's not -37° F and no hope in sight for 4 months.

I played Dakota Dunes last summer while visiting a friend, wish I would have played it twice. It was fun and challenging. Loved the layout and how natural it looked to the surrounding area. It's a must play!!

I grew up in Prince Albert, but more accurately, I grew up on the Cooke Municipal Golf Course. Like you say, this course is a gem that you would pay three times the price to play in any other location.

One surprising omission from your list is the Waskesiu Golf Course in the Prince Albert National Park. This course is absolutely beautiful and quite a challenge. It was designed by Stanley Thompson and built in 1935. It winds its way through northern forest and I think there is only one hole on which you can even catch a glimpse of another fairway. It is very common to share your fairway with elk (that often wander mere feet from you), deer, fox (one that used to steal balls all the time), wolves (although I never saw a wolf myself, my friends did), the odd moose, and even the odd black bear (but that's very rare, so don't worry). I'm not sure what it is like now, but the course used to be very busy and difficult to get a time, but I think that Elk Ridge has taken a bit of the pressure off it. Do not miss this course if you are in the area.

Good to see some SK posters!! I haven't played many courses there, but do like both the tracks in Swift Current. I'll make a trip down there a few times a year, and enjoy my time there. I'll post a review of Elmwood and Chinook next time I go down with my clubs.
