I don't know how the hell I did it, but I once double hit the ball....once in my downswing and the second time in the follow through.

First match of a member/guest weekend.  On the 3rd hole, 190 yard par 3 with two bunkers in front.  I'm standing in the left bunker, go though my normal routine and make a decent swing on the ball.  Sand splashes up on the green, felt like an okay shot except I didn't see the ball come out.  I look down and realize I missed the ball by a good two inches to the left.  That sudden realization when you have to look up and announce to the rest of the group "uhh, I just missed the ball."  Not a great feeling.  We all had a good laugh about it on the 4th tee.

A couple years ago at Indian Wells I pounded my drive on a long par 5. My drive of the season probably. It went over a ridge and down a long ways... when I was waiting to hit the marshal drove up and said "jesus man, that was your drive? I don't see too many people down this far". I had a few minute wait and this guy just sits there waiting to see my approach shot. He figured I'd stick it and have an eagle putt.

So obviously I took a 4 pound divot and the ball went about 15 yards. When I finally looked up at him he shakes his head and says "that's golf".

Was leading the net of a tournament for international schools near Aberdeen somewhere after day 1 and stone cold topped a 3w off the 1st of round 2.

3 of them:

1) First time I ever tried out for the golf team, Hole #1.  Almost a total whiff, ball trickles a foot and I pick it up and put it back on the tee (I still made the team).

2) Playing in high school I decide it's cool to tee it up next to the tee marker with my feet outside because, why not. Totally blasted the tee marker.

3) I hit a screamer off the tee and it hits a tree maybe 5 yards off the tee box, comes STRAIGHT BACK to me like a fastball and I stick my hand up and almost catch it.

Mine was more amazing than embarrassing but I will tell the tale anyhow.   Tight par4 had a three wood in my hands and probably teed it up a little too high.  Made a swing and the ball popped straight up in the air about 10 feet and I actually was able to catch the ball!!!   Needless to say the boys in my group were laughing pretty hard.  I then proceeded to re-tee it and piped it straight down the fairway - laying 3 of course.  In my wildest dreams,  dont think I could ever pull that off again.

I was in a playoff last year for the US Mid-Am, my ball was on the fringe and I had about 8 feet of fringe to negotiate.  I decided to chip.  Flubbed it.  Didn't even move a foot. :(

At the country club I go to, the only thing separating the green from the patio at the 18th is a steep hill. On wednesday evenings, kids can eat free and it's a zoo over the summer, place is packed to the brim. I had 3 shots to win from the back bunker and i skull it over the green which is on a raised plateau 15 yards above the fairway I just hit it on. Now I have 45 yards(yeah, I know)but I hit a shot I couldn't see the result to, but I knew it was alright when the crowd started clapping...It was within a foot...partner was white as a sheet thinking he just stole one

Played in a section event for the first time at what was my home course. Nervous as all hell playing with "the pros" and cold topped my 3-wood tee shot.

Got lucky and the ball rolled a good 130 yards and I ended up making birdie after hitting 8-iron to about 6'. That calmed me down, but it was so embarrassing doing that in front of "so many people".

It wasn't even the largest gallery I had seen to that point. Playing a Jr. Am qualifier years prior we had about 30 people (guessing they were all members of the host club) follow us the last 4 holes.

I went bogey, bogey, triple, par and missed a playoff for the last spot by two. That was also embarrassing.

Then this one time at band camp...

I once missed a ball so bad that it rolled between my feet, into some protected wetlands behind me.  I look up to see my brother in the fairway, cracking up.  He still will ask me to show him that trick shot from time to time.

Playing my first ever comp after attaining my handicap, first drive on the first tee I sky the ball high right off the crown of the driver onto the club house roof which is about 50m from the first tee block. Will be something I will never forget.

Talked my self to some of my teammates who I've never played with before. One actually is a board member at my work...first hole I decided to hit first...bad idea sliced the ball about 150 through a window and into some old lady's china cabinet. Ah good times

1st tee at my buddy's fancy country club, I'm an invited guest playing with him and 2 other members.  Pop the driver straight up and to the direct right, at a 90-degree angle, and it lands on the 2nd green where 4 lady members of the club were putting.

Apologized, re-teed, and proceeded to hit the 2nd drive almost exactly the same... this one landed a few feet in front of the 2nd green.

I wanted to crawl under a rock.

Playing with a local pro and piping a drive 20 yards past him right down the middle on the 380 yard par 4 first hole.  Now left with an awkward short wedge into the green I laid the sod over badly and advanced the ball about 10 yards.  He still busts my chops about that one.

Topped a 3 wood off the tee and into the elephant grass on the 16th hole of my club championship match last year. Lost the hole to bring the match to all square. Redeemed myself on the next hole when I ripped a drive on a par 5, got home in 2 and birdied it to go one up and halved 18 for the win.

More like most embarrassing shot I didn't hit. Par3, 7i, already well into the charity tournament supplied suds, complete whiff. Tipped my hat to the small but highly amused crowd of my new fans. "Thank you, ladies and germs."

I was playing a reachable par 4 last summer in a charity scramble. I had been hitting good that day and decided to rip it and give us a chance for eagle.   Stepped up,  picked my target and let it fly. Just as my ball hit the green and rolled into the cup I realized my fly was open...so embarrassing.

Two years ago I was standing on the tee off a 575 par 5. It was slightly into the wind, so I pulled out my driver. I hit it a touch thin and the ball ended up just short of the green. My buddies still make fun of me to this day. But, I guess it was better than going long like I usually do.

2 months ago I was playing with 2 of my best buddies. I hit a decent tee shot with my 4 iron and came up to my ball. Had ~90 left and chose my 52* with 3/4 swing. My buddies were standing to the right about 30 yards up. I hit a major shank that JUST sailed over their heads and over the next tee box where there was another foursome. Good thing my friends were looking at my shot, otherwise it could've taken off their heads!! To make things worse, my next 2 shots were also shanks. After that round I practiced and practiced Wedges and haven't shanked since :)

Any time I go for the hero flop and go clean under the ball without moving it I feel pretty embarrassed. However, embarrassment is a feeling I've grown accustomed to on the course.

I've hit several shanks in recent years. I'm disabled from MS, and  my balance and feel in my feet is very numb. So, my swing flaw is always the same, getting outside my center of balance AND for me that leads to shanks! When you are a scratch player, you aren't suppose to shank! HA!

I had been playing a couple of years when my buddy and I got paired up with a couple of guys for a Saturday round.  We get to a short par 4 with an elevated tee box that I had almost driven the last time played this course.  I put a monster swing on it and topped it....between my legs and it rolled down the hill behind me.  I walked down the hill and got my ball and said I would just drop one.  I was ready for that round to be over.

This past Sunday.  My tee shot hooks and almost ends up in the adjacent fairway. I'm trying to get back on, but also move forward toward the hole so that my approach will be shorter rather than longer.  And there's a big pine tree in front of me that I'm just sure I can stay to the right of.  Completely missed the ball on the first swing, and my partner had the kindness not to laugh (he sucks at this game worse than I do.)  Second swing, I'm all serious watching the breathing, relax the arms, check the posture, etc. etc.  Take my swing with the 5 wood, and I'm off-center left and hit it straight into the Pine tree I'm trying to avoid and the ball bounces back, landing at my feet in almost the exact same spot it took off from.

This is an easy one for me because it happened a couple of weeks ago.  I was playing in a foursome with walking caddies, so there were 8 people in the fairway.  I had a tricky lie on the edge of a bunker and hit a straight shank.  The ball screams right and hits a maintenance worker sitting in a golf cart.  I ran over to check on him and luckily he was ok, but I've never felt smaller my whole life!!!!

Was playing in a pretty high class member guest tournament.   I had left work and flew to the course. I had way to much caffeine that day   On the range I was very jittery and was hoping to get some of the caffeine out.  As we were about to tee off lightening struck and we all went into the club house.   I decided to have a beer which I never do while playing but figured it would offset the caffeine   The storm lasted about an hour and we got back out about an hour and a half later.   Only problem was  I had about 5 beers while waiting.   On the first tee everyone was watching and I realized I was buzzed.   I literally swung and took a divot with my driver and the ball popped straight up and landed about an inch in front of the massive divot.   I remember feeling my face turning bright red and I pulled out a 5 iron and just punched the ball off the tee into the fairway.

Joined our club several years ago and the first day I'm out there the head pro (who is now one of my best friends) comes up to me on the full driving range and says let's see what you've got.  I'm nervous as hell and have a 7 iron I believe.  I probably haven't shanked a golf ball in 15 years so you know what happens.  I shank one straight right and it's headed straight for the pool full of kids.  Luckily the net catches it and the first words he says are "I'm going to get the kids out of the pool".  The whole range lost it and I got a good laugh as well once I realized he was kidding.  From then on I was fine but for having a whole range and a pro watch me for the first time really screwed me up.

I was just on the fringe of a monster Par-5 in 2 (570 yards), and I skanked a wedge almost dead right........My buddies were left speechless.......They've known me for years, seen me go low many times........They didn't know what to say, I didn't know what to do......LOL.......Gotta admit, I was nervous on the next chip.....LOL
