Id never buy an iron for the distance. If I hit my irons well, I can always club up for those extra 10yds.
I would buy those for consistency but coming from Mizuno MPs the i's might be a better fit

So I had my fitting at Golf Town today with a Ping fitter who was in for the day. I will say that my fitter Martin was truly a great help and most knowledgable about the product. I believe this fitting was on a whole other level than when I was fitted by a golf town employee for my G20'S. I went in with an open mind in wanting to try out both the i's and g's. A couple things stood out right away, the G's are really easy to hit and they do go far. I primarily compared the 7 irons and looking down, the 7 looked really good, some have commented the g more i looking and that is the truth.Still a bit chunky, but I am coming from G20'S! I also learned that I can hit the i's, they are really forgiving as well. Martin never pushed me to lean one way or another but we could tell that my right to left shot was a little more pronounced with the i series. My bad shots were more bad AND distance was lost lol  Given how often I get out to play and more or less practice (which is less) that I realized quite quickly I will get much more enjoyment from the G'S. Martin stressed the importance of getting me the right lie angle and then gave me knowledge how even little things such as width of grip can help me a bit. I ended up going with the AWT shafts stiff. no matter what brand you are going, I can't imagine anymore someone not wanting to get properly fit for new irons.

The best part of all in Canada at least, I got trade in value for my G20 irons, plus and additional $150 off, plus they also have a promotion if you buy an 8 pc set, you get a free wedge .  So all in all, I have new irons, 4-UW, and a glide wedge coming for $870 taxes in. I thought that was a fantastic deal that I couldn't pass up at this time, too many incentives if you are going to end up buying at some point!

Picked up my 4-uw  today Purple dot, 1/2 shorter.  Hit a bunch of balls, love them even more now than I did when I got fit.  I was about 1/2 club longer than the 2002 Ta2 irons I replaced.  The flight was higher on every club, which is really good for me as I hit a lower ball with the Clevelands. Just my second time on the range since November and my dispersion was much better with a set of clubs that were actually fit to me.  Fitter at Miles of Golf Cincinnati bent my 53 degree Cleveland to fill the gap I had at 100 yards, after which I hit 8 balls in a row 96-102 yards on smooth swings based on distances from the Foresight launch monitor.  It is supposed to be close to 60 degrees here in Cincinnati this weekend, so hoping to get out on the course and give them a real test.  Very pleased with my choice.

Dude, so funny! Finished my fitting today and ordered purple dot, .5" short stiffs, UTx wraps today! 5-UW, picked up the 4 crossover and 54 SS and 58TS to round out the set. Second time hitting this season as well, and these were high, straight, and long. These are sweet irons.  Congrats! Can't wait for mine to come in.

Boycer11 - have a look at my post on page 2 of this thread - they're both great shafts. For me I found the Pro Modus little longer and tighter dispersion (I'm talking negligible here).
I saw little difference between the 3 shafts I tried from a figures perspective but on the subjective front I felt the Pro modus was smoother and more consistent.
AWT - good all round performance, nothing unexpected and could quite happily play this shaft.
PX 5.5 better performance than AWT (for me) perhaps felt a little stout but incredibly consistent.
Nippon Pro Modus 105 s - best of both worlds.
YMMV

Awesome. Thanks for the reply. I liked the modus 105 in the ie when I tested those. I was leaning towards the modus, but was wondering how the awt might perform different in the shorter irons.

I will test them both first if I can.

I hit the modus 105x in Orlando .. awesome shaft

That said I have moved to graphite for tendonitis ... so today I ordered a G series ... ONLY the six iron.

+3/4", black dot, UST Mamiya Recoil Proto 110 F5 shaft, d4 swingweight, iomic 2.3 grip with 3 & 4 wraps upside down.

If it goes well I may get the matching 7-PW but I am likely holding out for the s54's . .which I hope will be this Fall.  Upgrade charge was not awful for the proto shaft

i will have to change the paint fill from blue to red of course

Let us know how it goes. I think I had recoils in some g25 and was getting a lot of hooks when usually I fade the ball. If been tempted to try them again though.

For those of you who have received your irons, what was your turnaround time to get from Ping from the time you ordered?

Anybody ask if they could order irons with the G and the lines in blue a different color? Was debating black paint fill instead of blue.

I ordered mine last Friday w recoil 110 and I was told they may arrive as soon as tomorrow. The only club that seems to be a bit delayed right now is the crossover. I also ordered g driver, hybrid and 50, 56 and 60 glides.

Different question: Has anybody asked wether the AWT is available in the i's as well? Id be surprised if they werent as they are "cheaper" for Ping than the Modus or PX I guess.

I ordered a titleist 4 wood as well.  I really liked the AWT but I've developed some joint / arthritis issues so I went with the Recoils.  I've never hit the Recoils but I read so many great things about their profile so i figured I'd give them a shot.  I got the recoil in the 50 and kbs tour in the sand and lob.  I wanted something around 120 grams.  I can always swap out the shafts in the wedges if I don't get along with them.  It's supposed to be in the 50's this wknd so maybe I'll get a little range time in if they come tomorrow.

Does anyone know how the stock graphite shafts are? Also how much more forgiving is the Gmax vs the G? Im currently playing G15 and am thinking Gmax will be a better fit. Looking to go graphite after some tendonitis issues in wrist.

Found a "brand new" set on the used rack for 600 bucks and couldn't resist.  I bounce between a 3.2 and 5 handicap in a year and honestly hit just about every iron the same. What I am looking for more help on the occasional mis-hits. My short game saves my round more often than not but I would rather have more birdie puts :) .   Hard to tell indoors but on the simulator dispersion was good (little better than my old Adams CMB irons) and as expected about one club longer due to the lofts.  Using my old gamer 7 iron against the Ping G 8 iron, the spin rates and distance were very comparable to be honest. Feel is subjective but like most irons I can tell when its a bad shot or good shot. The big difference is I was hardly punished for mis-hits, they went about the same distance.  I didnt notice any odd "flyers" with these irons but again its indoors. Will take a few months to really give an opinion but I should know more after playing this weekend.

Does anyone know how the stock graphite shafts are? Also how much more forgiving is the Gmax vs the G? Im currently playing G15 and am thinking Gmax will be a better fit. Looking to go graphite after some tendonitis issues in wrist.

Had tendinitis issues with steel...I am playing the GMax with stock graphite shafts and after a couple of rounds you forget that they are not steel....love them. Ball go high. Ball go far...no pain ever.

1st time I have been able to get mine to the course was yesterday.  Unseasonably warm but 30mph winds with gusts higher than that.  The ball was moving on the shaggy winter greens.

Hit a small bucket, then played....hit some really nice shots  with a 7 and 8 iron with them, but it was hard to judge my game overall in those conditions.

So far, so good.  Think I am going to like them!
