Hello everyone,

I work at a Golf Galaxy in Cary,NC during the off season and I just wanted to tell everyone about the newly released R& 425cc. It was due to go on sale to the consumer on Dec 9th this friday and we where sent demos to all the stores the first of the week to promote it before it's launch date.
Well they found a huge problem with the production model in the fact that all the heads on the clubs where cracking in the neck part of the club. We where contacted by Taylor Made and they said that they have an engineer specificly asigned to this problem and they are looking into the reson for this. At this time they are uncertain as to whether they will still release clubs in full on the 9th but since alot of stores already have them in stock they just couldn't sell them until the 9th they will probably still go ahead and release them.
I just wanted to let or fellow golfwrx's know that they may want to hold off buying this club until they find out what is going on with the defect. We have always been able to get good reviews and updates on the best equipment around on this forum and I just want to pass this along so everyone can make there own decision with all the facts. TaylorMade said they would let us know more info at the end of the week and I will be sure to pass it along to all of you as well.
So before everyone goes out and buys this club on friday please be aware of what you might be getting and good hunting in finding that special driver for the Holiday's.

Cheers everyone,

Craig :drinks:

Just got off the phone with my inside rep a Taylor and this story above me is 100% true. We have been shipped 3 drivers and they are heading back tommorow. Sorry all of the Taylor Ho's but your new 425 head is cracking at the hosel due to the way shafts are installed. Taylor is working on the problem as we speak. Buyer beware don't buy one.

Could this have been a case of trying to get a product out before the X-Mas season even if they were not 100% ready and now TM is paying the price?

TaylorMade is known for their marketing...fortunate for them, this problem was discovered before the actutal release date. Granted, I'm sure some will fall into the hands of the consumer, but it's better now than later.

Appreciate the info fella's.

Great heads-up !!! Was considering this club and like everyone else would have been thoroughly disappointed. TM needs to slow down on the marketing and start thinking more about their loyal customers.

TM does have some explaining to do because this story just helps cement their reputation for being quite greedy at year end. Not only are they in such a hurry to release the R7 425 before XMas to get a sales boost, some of the reps purposely do not tell smaller golf shops that the R7 425cc was coming soon while filling out large re-orders of more R7s and R5s. Not cool.

OK, here I go again.

Does anybody know if this problem with the R7 425 Retail also applies for the R7 425 TP version ?

I bought the R7 425 Tp last friday at Golfsmith, but have not received confirmation that they will be shipping it to me. Should I write to Golfsmith and tell them about this problem ?

I just called customer service and he said that the hosels WERE NOT cracking but it was an assembling problem. He said that the accounts will have the new clubs on December 16th available for shipment.

my local shop said that TM told them the tips of the shafts were sanded down too much causing some of them to break. I am no assembler so I don't even understand if what I just typed is a reasonable answer or not. Just passing it on.

Well just to reafirm to everyone they have now requested us to send back all the R7 425cc that they sent us to put out for sale on friday.
The shafts where having a problem with cracking at the hosel yes but what they didn't tell you was they where having issues with the hosel as well. I know this first hand because of the many stores in the Golf Galaxy chain that had this happen to them.
The main problem is the shaft cracking and I have somereasons why I think this is happing along with the hosel problem but since I am not an engineer at TM I will leave that for them to take care of the problem.
As sson as I get word of the new release date I will port it on the forum.

More posts later,

Cheers everyone

Shaft tip prep is the problem, no problem with the heads or hosels. Everyone should have their clubs back next week as well as the TPs.
