There are a lot of local places I like to eat but for true chain restaurants for a steak I like Outback and Carabbas.  The filet at Carabbas is fantastic if you've never had it.

Well there are two types of chains.  You have the Mom & Pop/Family joint and the High end Steak house.

Family:  I LOVE the Porterhouse at Longhorns and the Cajun Ribeye at Cheesecake Factory.

High End:  I have been to Smith & Wollensky 3 times and always had a fantastic meal.  Ruth Chris didn't blow me away.  Del Frisco is OMFG delicious but only went once.  We have a smaller chain called Davio's here in MA (they are in Philly too) and that is my fav restaurant in MA.

I like Texas Land and Cattle but would rather do it myself. I prefer 30 seconds a side and restaurants have to cook it beyond that (stupid food borne illness!!).

Texas Roadhouse. There are a hundred steak houses here in Los Angeles. I drive to Corona for the only Texas Roadhouse in the area. If you want a real treat, after dinner, ask for more rolls but ask for cinnamon butter and brown sugar. Mix them together and put them on a piping hot roll. YUM!

Outback is ok. Black Angus is meh.

We have higher end, Flemmings, Ruth Christ, etc. Good but pricy.

If you ever go to Disneyland I highly recommend Steakhouse 55 in the Disneyland Hotel. Very good. Excellent crab cakes to start and the Yukon godl garlic mash is great pair for your steak of choice.

If limited to chains, Morton's followed by Mastro's (love the seafood tower) followed by Capital Grille.

Glad to see the Keg mentioned, when in Canada it is the Keg.  And I will be there next week.  I get the baseball sirloin which is awesome.

In the US it is always Mortons.  Generally the filet.

Smith and Wollenskys. The one in Columbus is amazing. Ruths Criss is also good.

90% of the time I just make my own steaks. I've never been to the high end places like Ruth's Chris or Morton's because I know I can make an excellent steak for 1/5 the price.

I eat at Longhorn and Outback fairly often, but I don't usually order steak.

I believe Kincaids is a chain.. Might be a small chain with only a few locations, but the food is quite good. Minneapolis and St. Paul have quite a rich food history, so for every good chain, there's 4-5 small ones that are as good or better. My favorite here is a steakhouse that has like 5 total things on the menu. If you don't want steak, you don't go there. Lol

I believe fogo de chao is also a chain.. It's $50 a plate, and waiters just walk around with giant slabs of meat and you choose what cuts you want and they literally shave off the meat (with what looks like a machete) onto your plate. All fine cuts and quality meat. I get how it could sound kinda tacky, but it's anything but.

Northern California and Chicago 'burbs.  I do try to find time to stop in a Capital Grille when I see one while on the road.  Unhealthy, but that calamari/pepper blend is a tangy little start for the filet to follow!!  :)

I ate at the Capital Grille in Buckhead and thought it was very good.  Like I said previously, I normally don't like high end chain steak houses.  I thought Capital Grille was very solid.  One of the better, if not the best, large chain high end steak house I have been to.

Limited sample size but I would take Ruth Chris any day over Flemings. With either of them you are paying a lot for atmosphere. You can't really compare them to something like Outback as they are something like 2x the price and aimed at totaly different markets (upscale versus family)

I am not sure I would say any of the high end non chains are better than places like Ruth Chris or Mortons. They are different. There are also some places that give you similiar steaks but a bit cheaper (call it 40 dollars instead of 50) by skipping out on some of the atmosphere. Of course I am guessing in a blind steak tasting my rankings of might be totally random.

Personally I am a big outback fan. They are not close to the best steaks I have ever had but if you are pulling into town and you just want to eat, they rarely disappoint. And they are everywhere.....

If any of our American cousins ever find themselves in London I can very much recommend that you go for steak at one of the "Goodman" restaurants. It's the 2nd best steak I have ever eaten.

Do not, I repeat, do not, be tempted by the numerous Angus Steakhouses.

What ever happened to those places they'd have at the mall where you could get a steak cooked to order, sort of cafeteria style.  Can't remember what they were called....New York something or other?

Found it....York Steak House

https://en.m.wikiped...ork_Steak_House

I need Silver Bullets to review this place since the last one is near CBus.  I want to know if it's still like walking into 1981.

I have never even heard of that joint.  It's fairly close to where I live (maybe 5 miles).... It's just separated by a river, train tracks and a lot of money.  That's not exactly the best part of town (it may be the worst part of town)... They recently built a casino right there if that describes the type of place it is haha.

It's highly rated though.  I may need to swing by sometime!

Judging by the Facebook page... Yes, it looks like 1981!

if I had to choose a chain steakhouse for a steak, I'd chose Longhorn Steakhouse (we also have Texas Roadhouse and Logan's, both dry and overcooked and have roach problems in their restaurant).

Local places which I prefer
-Katz 21 (upwards of $80+ for 2 people)
-Republic of Texas (usually around $100+ for a dinner & most expensive of the bunch)
-Nikos (around $50/couple)
-Texas Flame (formally "The Longhorn" but guess they had to change their name when the chain Longhorn came into town, roughly around $40-50/couple.

All local steak houses make some great steaks and full of flavor.

-Texas Flame (formally "The Longhorn" but guess they had to change their name when the chain Longhorn came into town, roughly around $40-50/couple.

All local steak houses make some great steaks and full of flavor.
Was doing a lot of work at the Nueces Co courthouse and stayed at the Omni.  Lived at the Republic of Texas most nights.  Solid food and a fantastic view.

if I had to choose a chain steakhouse for a steak, I'd chose Longhorn Steakhouse (we also have Texas Roadhouse and Logan's, both dry and overcooked and have roach problems in their restaurant).

Local places which I prefer
-Katz 21 (upwards of $80+ for 2 people)
-Republic of Texas (usually around $100+ for a dinner & most expensive of the bunch)
-Nikos (around $50/couple)
-Texas Flame (formally "The Longhorn" but guess they had to change their name when the chain Longhorn came into town, roughly around $40-50/couple.

no kidding? hopefully they didn't force you stay here too long :). great place you stayed at and yes, the view at the Republic or Texas is pretty great.

Longhorns or Outback but in my neck of the woods it always seems there is an hour wait at Outback.

Del Frisco's. Followed by Capital Grille.

I'll take a whiskey cocktail before the meal (almost certainly bourbon or rye in the form of an Old Fashioned or a Manhattan) and some red wine with the steak.

I'm not really a chain restaurant person.  I much prefer local establishments.  If limited to chains Del Frisco's followed by Morton's.  I don't visit these two very often because I feel a similarly priced meal at our local places will exceed the quality.

If you're looking for a decent steak at a reasonable price I believe Outback and Texas Roadhouse are the best options.
