I have herd rumors about the M1 having paint crack issues on the crown where the carbon fiber and titanium bonding ledge is...took one out of the wrapper today and after 15 swings, looked down, and sure enough, a paint crack all the way across the crown from hosel to end of toe. It is about 1-2mm in front of the most forward section of the carbon fiber decal.
I will say that i was pleasantly surprised with the feel and sound of the club being that it is Taylormade's first carbon fiber driver and working with carbon fiber is a learned art.

Every manufacturer has gone through the some sort of warranty curve when it comes to carbon fiber i.e. Callaway, Cobra, Titleist, et cetera. It doesn't make Taylormade cheap, just means they're catching up. They'll learn and do better the next go round, just like everyone else has.

Heck, I've seen plenty of Callaway carbon fibre crowns go flying off the head. Two in the same demo session, once.

I'm a TM player, currently play SLDR driver and RBZT irons, but am going to sit this round out for the exact reasons mentioned.  Never had good luck with carbon fiber "woods", so I'll wait for durability reviews or a dramatic price decrease when the next model comes out.  Luckily I'll probably only have to wait 4 months! :)-

Plus, since most are saying the R15 is more forgiving than SLDR with same low spin, I'll probably give one of them a try since they will be free-falling in price.  That or Aeroburner.

For years I had hoped callaway would just give up on carbon fiber for the reasons mentioned above... How many drivers did they go through before they finally got it right? Let's see: Callaway C4 (2002) ERC Fusion, FT-3, FT-5, FT-9, FT-IQ, FT-Tour, FT-IZ, Razr Hawk, and then after this I think they started to get it "right" with the Razr X Black and RAZR Fit series (2012).

Some of the drivers mentioned above were IMO awesome drivers! They sure did crack a lot, especially the early models. Let's hope it doesn't take ten years for TM to figure it out!

I was not impressed with the feel or sound. It sounded like I was hitting a ball with an iron skillet that you heat tortillas on. I'm sure this is a problem that TM is currently dealing with and is willing to replace the head for you no prob. From what I hear TM CS is pretty solid.

Up until a few months ago I was still playing a Mizuno MX500, the last carbon fiber crown driver Mizuno made. Bought it new in 2005. A few shaft changes over 10 years and bought/demoed many drivers, but never found anything significantly longer. I'm 6'5", 200#'s, and S/S around 118-120 and never had an issue with the crown. Bought an XR looking for more forgiveness, and afraid face may crack on Mizuno, but may go back to the Mizuno, it just sounds/feels so good. Just put my 10 yr old TEE CB1 4 wood back in the bag this week.

Is this the failing of TM 'rushing; clubs through the R+D process so quickly, churning new stuff out on short product cycles and the clubs not being subject to much or any 'real World' testing ?

I find it hard to comprehend how these issues can possible escape them. If clubs in their final guise, and painted the same as they intended to sell had been "out in the field" then surely the problem would have shown itself. As it has here on WRX. Numerous times so far.

This is whats known as a schoolboy error.........

The club I picked up last week had the grip place 1/4" above the butt end of the shaft.  Didn't notice it until I was hitting balls with it at the range.  QC takes a back seat to meeting shipping deadlines I guess.  I replaced the grip.  Mine was an assembly issue and not a component issue.  It does make me wonder however.  P.S, I have an FT Tour and a original Rapture and no problems with either.

Could be across the whole line of the drivers or a specific batch issue.  Love or hate TM but they have good customer service just like Callaway and other OEM's.  M1 is a gret stick hope it turns out to be a small batch
