Hmm, I feel your pain, same course, same weekend. 34-50, thats right 2 under on the front, 14 over on the back. Next day I went back and shot 48-35. But hey, that's why we enjoy the game so much right?

50-38, and the first shot of the back nine was ob, so I was even after my second tee shot for that nine

haha yeah, at the time I had never broken 80 and after shooting 34 for I thought I had it made. But after uping the ante on the back nine things got uuuuuugly

I've also shot 47-36 at a par 72. It was in a tournament with a cut and that goes to match play. The first two shots of the round i lost and then on the ninth hole my group got a slow play penalty even though we only finished the front nine in 2.5 hours. we weren't even holding anyone back although we were 4 holes behind the group in front of us who finished 9 holes in 1.5 hours.
the worst part was that i finished one stroke behind the cut that was 82

Hehe happens occasionally, shot a 37 front then a 51!!!! Totally mental-flop. SOmethiNG about making the turn.... That 1 over was the best i ever did on nine holes, then that 15 over was the worst i had shot all summer/fall. Learned never to trust my front nine ever. Utterly disgusting feeling after 18

Happened to me many times but I can remember only few rounds, it was at North & South Am at Pinehurst #2 course. I had misfortune of pulling my left ribcage muscle that messed up my back a week before the tourney. Started off great but doubled 8th hole and bogied 9th hole for 1 under 34, never made another par rest of the way shooting 47 on back for a 81. Had to WD after the 1st round since I could just barely swing. Really disappointed. Another tourney I went 45-34 and other tourney, went 36-46 due to terrible last 6 holes (10 over), next day started off terrible, 4 over in my 1st 3 holes before rallying for 1 under par 71, that's 14 over par in stretch of 9 holes, just one of those times where my ball wanted to go swimming often. I know I have plenty other good/ugly rounds.

My worst nine then best nine was at Royal Queensland PAR 72 in a Tournament was front nine 40 then a 29 back nine it was not a bad score 69 but the funny thing was I started on the first hole a par 4 with a 8. My tee shot hooked left under a tree then when I went to hit it back onto the fairway because it was dead the ball hit the tree then hit me right in the NUTS. It took me 3 hole's to work of the pain. I asked my caddie to rub it better, he declined I will alway's think back to that front nine.At Colonial Golf Club a par 72 I did have 46/30 for a score of 76.

My problem is a little different. I usually start good and finish strong. I break down in the middle and recover. That is my mental nemesis.

You tank the front nine and relax and burn the course on the back because in your mind it doesn't matter anymore...

For some reason, as above, I also shoot much better on the front than the back...physcial/mental thing.

Can't remember the split between the two nines, but I started off pulling the first one OOB and ended up with a 7, on a par 4, double bogeyed the next hole a par 3, then eagled the next a driveable par 4. Finished the round with a gross 75 to win the comp.

Now whenever I start badly I always think back to this round. In Golf positive thoughts and rounds where you have recovered and played well before should never be forgotten.

I went 42-34 in my conference tournament, I am a firm believer that, good or bad, the fact that golf is regularly split into 2 9-hole games has some sort of psychological effect on golfers

just look at tiger...40-30 back in '97!

A 3-4 years ago, I went 52-38. Three bogies, five pars, and my first birdie. I've only been playing about 4 years.

I've unfortunately had tons of "flip-flop" rounds. All similar to what everyone else is posting. I've actually shot 46 and then went on to shoot 33.

My worst flip-flop was on a 36 hole qualifier I played many years ago. I shot a 94 on the morning 18 and a 74 in the afternoon. I didn't come close to qualifiying but at least I didn't end up breaking all my clubs at the end of the day.

One time in a qualifier I went on to shoot a 1 under 35 on the front nine and was rolling quite well through 14 holes then had 2 triples and 1 bogey in the last 4 holes to miss qualifying by a stroke. On another day that I was playing I went 31 on the front and started thinking about the course record then a 42 on the back by trying to press to much.
