I've only played a few rounds this season, but they've been enough to convince me that, at least for now, I HAVE to limit my rounds to 9 holes.  My orthopedic issues have gotten to the point that I have trouble walking for two or three days after a round of 18, and that's using a cart.

I've always likened 9 holes of golf to kissin' one's sister. But, as the aches and pains associated with decades of sports injuries
seem to be piling on, I too, am considering 9 hole events, even if my back 9 scores are typically as much as 6 strokes better than   the front. A person has to adapt I suppose. It sucks getting old. Kinda.

Like "kissing your sister".  9 is never enough for me.  Don't even like to go through the "process"...stretching, practicing, range time, putting green...for only 9 holes.

What?

I mostly play 9 holes after work. Typically the courses I play are very busy or too expensive at earlier times of the day so I choose to play twilight when it's empty. I detest 5 hour rounds.

More often than not I feel like I'm only getting into a groove about halfway through the first 9, so it can be a letdown to get to the end and be left wondering how the back 9 might have gone. Sometimes 9 is perfect though. When I played in college, getting 9 holes in after the day's classes was just right.

A course in my town is only 14 holes. A little more than 9, not quite 18... It's a good number when you don't have the full day set aside for golf.

9 doesn't feel like a complete round to me. I hardly ever play ...just 9.I rarely play by myself, but once in a while I will go to the course and play 9..10..13 holes by myself.Jump around and play the open holes..play some twice..lol.
I rarely hit balls on the range...I haven't been yet this year. I would rather play golf than practice? Funny...I have a 9 hole course 5 minutes from my house, but I rarely ever play it?

Not a big fan of 9-hole rounds. Feels incomplete. I haven't played a 9-hole round in years. If you struggle on the front nine, you always wonder if you can turn things around on the back 9. If you have a hot front nine, you wonder if you can keep it going. I'd rather go to the range and practice all facets of the game than play a 9-hole round.

I almost always want more after 9. For weekdays after work, it's fine, but if I have the time then playing 18 in the only option.

I think 27 holes is ideal. first 9 holes is a warmup and then you are ready to play. Much better than hitting the range and putting green.

If I had time and could do this every weekend, I would. Practice 9 or a quick 9 on a par 3 with 5-10 drivers on the range, then play 18. That is not really possible for me like it used to be, but less than 18 is never preferable for me.

I play nine 3 times a week after work, and then usually 18 on Saturday and Sunday. I'm lucky enough to have a course that's in fairly decent shape nearby that's pretty cheap. So I can go get in nine for not much more than going and hitting a large bucket at the range. I would much rather play than go to the range anyways. But I always find myself wanting more after the nine..

I am okay with playing 9 on occasion but it drives me nuts if I put together a really solid 9 holes and can't finish out the full 18. It's like playing 2 periods of a hockey game and quiting before you find out who wins. As for the time involved with playing a full 18, I know it can be 4-4.5 hours on the weekend, longer if you go out late and get stuck behind some hackers, but I've played a full 18 in 3-3.5 hours on a weekday morning before and gone into work late and that worked out great. In the summer when my wife is off work (since she's a teacher), I play 18 with her starting at 7am and I'm usually showered, changed, and at work by 1030 or 11.

I usually walk 18, but by hole number 14 I Am dogging it, fatigued my shoulders start to hurt from the bag and my swings turn to garbage.

I think I need a better carry bag.

I have settled for just nine a couple of times this year but only because I already paid for my membership for the year.

I could never stand paying cash for just nine holes

Save your back though.  You have many, many years to play and don't worry about what anyone says about a cart.
