Only demo'd them a few times but I love the feel of it, would even think about taking it over my Ping Anser 2f2.
Personally I like the feel better than Scotty's Circa 62 and Studio Putters I have tried out. But Maybe living in Arizona has made me partial to Ping putters :p
tried it at a golf store and just had to have it, got one off BST for almost half the retail price (golf equipment is rather overpriced down here)
i haven't used many putters before but it certainly feels very solid compared to my mate's White Hot XG #3 (i found the insert to be a bit too soft), its weight is perfect for control when compared to my old Rossa Daytona
the black nickle finish coupled with the classic anser shape is just beautiful under any light (im not much of a fan of the more modern looking putters in that price range, i.e. Odyssey Black Series #1) and the headcover would definitely protect my putter during transport
all in all a fantastic putter, i won't be looking to change for a while....
This putter is class all the way. Just received mine and it is as solid as it gets.Even though it's 303 stainless which is the same as my Scotty it feels softer for some reason.
Bought this one today. I have many putters to include: Cameron, circa 62 #2, studio design #2, Newport 2 studio, Holiday Del Mar 3.5 ( Which must be the sexiest putter ever made ) Mizuno T.P Mills ( The sofest putter I have ever used ) Rife ausie, and well the list goes on. My review is great so far, spent a few hours today just putting in the EW. Found this to feel better than anything else for me. The balance of the putter is just supurb. It is the Black Satin finish. Whet out to the course and practiced for an hour and was rolling the ball better than I have in a couple years now, well ever since putting became so important. So over all I rate it a 10. If you can get past the Cameron/Custom built putters and give this pup a try, I think you will be impressed. Hope this helps.
Tried this one out at Golfsmith tonight, along with Scotty Newport 2.5, Odyssey Black Series 2, and the TM 'Spider' . . . this Redwood was my favorite of all of them. Like others have said above, it's buttery soft and is a beauty to look at. It sits perfectly at address and isn't too 'clicky' on impact.
I'm trying to decide whether to go for this price range (this is my top pick of the production models so far) or if I should man-up and spend the extra hundo for a customized Byron. Any thoughts?
Not for one second would I have ever thought "I" would be using a Ping product... I have spent the money on the looks of the putter and did not get much, traded a few of my old putters in and paid an extra 26 dollars, best move I have ever made. Not for one second since I got this thing to a real grean and regreted pawning tose other things in. Thats just me though.
Been using the piper for a couple of months and beginning to really like it. Surprisingly I have been good from short range and long range, but struggled between 10 and 20 feet - not sure if that is the putter or me!
Feel off the face is excellent using a pro v1 and the head is heavy enough that a good paced pendulum stroke puts a lovely roll on the ball.
I would recommend for those who like mallet putters.
I bought the Redwood Anser a month or so ago, and still cannot believe how good it is. If you are looking for a putter this season don't miss trying this one out.
I bought one a couple days ago...I want to keep my putter in good condition...Does anybody have any cleaning methods I can use after each round i play with it? I talked to one of the salesman's at the store and he said to spray wd-40 in the headcover to help keep it from wearing out too quickly after each hole. Is this okay to do or can i do something else that is better? thanks
I sure as heck would NOT use WD-40, but I'm a long-time hater of that product. If you want to put a thin film of oil on the putter to keep it from any corrosion opportunities, I'd use a product called "Break Free CLP" - you can get it in any WalMart in the Gun/Sporting Goods section.
Wipe it down with CLP after each outing and you should be Good To Go for a long time.
Have had my Redwood black satin Anser for a week now and love it. Had played a Never Compromise mallet which was directionally more forgiving but the Ping has more feel and I'm sinking more putts now. More focus now required on putts but that's a good thing. Still working to dial in distance control. It is also a beautiful and classic look.
Bought redwood zing 2 weeks ago at PGA superstore used for $129.00!!!!.
I think I was there for about 3 hours putting these. I usually don't take that long but I wasn't in putter market and I felt at 1/2 off and mint condition I could give it a run.
Overall, nice soft touch from SS and nice heavy feel to it.
Took it for a round last week. I wasn't draining everything but all were close. No three putts.
2-ball is in the garage again. Hope he never returns.
I played the original black nickel Redwood Anser when it first came out two years ago. Solid feel, great balance but awful glare so I traded it for a black pearl Scotty at midseason. The black pearl has glare issues too but nowhere near as bad as the Redwood.
Today I happened across a black satin Redwood Anser at GG. The feel is much softer than the black nickel Redwood and the black pearl Scotty... with zero glare. Needless to say I had it fitted and took it home.
The putter is classic Anser. Feels good to have a Ping back in the bag again.
I have been searching for the ideal Anser putter for me. I have tried several to inlcude Byrons, Mizzy Bettinardi, Taylormade daytona (regular and TP) and more. THe Taylormade Daytona TP is one of the best allround putters I have tried. The only problem is the insert had a glare for me here in sunny FL. I wanted to buy the Ping Redwood when they came out but they had a BAD glare in the store. Tried the Byron but the 365 head weight was to heavy for my liking. LONG story short I like the look of rounded bumpers so the bettinardi is out. THE Ping Redwood black satin was ordered to my specs and after testing with the Bettinardi and Taylormade TP the Ping keeps winning out in every catagory. So far the putter looks great and performs great. I like it and think it will be in the bag for a while.
I played my Mizuno Bettinardi this last weekend just to look at something different, and it was just a fun round. I put the Ping back in the bag today and went to putt. The Ping REdwood reminds me of the Toyota commericial where they say-everybody compares their cars to the Camry, so I thought why not just buy the Camry???
That is how I feel about the Ping, after starting golfing with a Ping Anser and playing it for many years. I got away from Ping and tried all these other Ping copies. After trying all others that copy Ping I thought why not just stick with the PING....
Was really not in the market for a new putter...but you know how it is . Just bought a set of Ping G-10 irons and couldn't resist trying new putters. Tried four different styles of Pings. I didn't care for the iWi series since I didn't want to fool with the different weights. So I had it down to the i series and the Redwood. I wasn't thrilled with spending $250 on a putter since I just bought new driver/irons/push carts, etc.....
I tried the two different styles for a couple of hours and found that not only did I prefer the Redwood Anser but I went for the 33" length. I really liked the feel of the putter and "felt" that it had a tad more weight than the i series. They didn't have it in the Zing style but after putting awhile felt that the offset shaft, of the Anser, didn't bother me too much.
At the store, it seemed that I was able to hold the line better than any other putter. Don't know if that was the shaft length or the Ping but.....
I had read a few articles saying how people don't like spending a lot on putters but they will spend hundreds on a new driver, which you may only use 12- 14 times per round compared to about 36 times with a putter.
That logic made me feel better about spending the $250.
Have been on the course two times with it so far and I really like it. The balance and feel suits me fine and I have noticed that my distance feel has improved a lot. Again, not sure if it's the 33" shaft or the putter (or maybe both) but am very happy with the putter.
i have had my redwood zb for about 6 months and i love it. i had a taylormade rossa before and sold it quick once i found this great stick! it will never leave my bag!
