I picked one of these up on a whim just to fool around with. I've heard that they are long and can attest that one of my playing partners who plays one is hitting bombs with it. So I figured I would give it a try and maybe make it into a project club, messing around with various shaft combinations.

The one I picked up is 9.5 degrees and currently has the Pro Launch Red shaft in stiff flex. At address the head sets up neutral to perhaps one degree open. The crown is clean with no graphics and at address the all black head hides its 460 cc size pretty well. It has a classic, confidence inspiring shape which makes you feel like you can just rip it.

I played two nine-hole rounds with it and had very promising results. This club is definitely long. The ball screams off the face. However, the shaft launches the ball a bit high. And coupled with the neutral/open face the end result for me is a high fade, but a very long high fade. I did manage to keep the ball on or close to the fairway but with my current set-up I rarely see the right side of the course so this took a little bit of getting adjusted to. What I will report is that this driver is easily ten yards longer than my current, or should I say previous, driver. I believe that with the right shaft this club may be perfect for me.

The pros are: the price (I picked mine up for a song); the classic shape; super hot face; and excellent feel.

The cons are: the shaft (its not bad but its no Diamana); and its not the most forgiving 460 cc driver (comparable to my TM R7 425).

Conclusion: a tour caliber dark horse driver that is exceeding my expectations.

I have been using the Cleveland HiBore XL 9.5* red, stiff shaft, which I had been fit for. The club is long, but I was having trouble being consistant with direction (fades, hooks). It was not a comfortable fit. I went in and got fitted by a different pro. He suggested trying a number of clubs, all with tour heads (square or slightly open), including the BTY, but a 10.5* with a regular flex shaft (Pro Launch Red). Bingo -- this is the ideal set-up for me. This is the longest, most consistant driver I have tried yet. This club is worth a try, and if you like it, they are being discontinued and can be had very reasonably. I am a 14 and can hit the ball long, but working it can be problematic, but with this club, it goes where I aim it, it goes long, and hitting it high or low can be done with relative ease.

This is still one of the better heads out there.

I'm still gaming this driver, 10.5 degree reshafted with a GD YS-6 stiff. I've pretty much had it since it came out. I'm yet to find a driver that feels better, is hotter off the face, and I'm more consistent with. Not underrated, just very under-used driver. Don't see many people with this in the bag. Everyone I've talked to who has used this driver say the same thing ... it's a very long driver.
