I will be in the area playing in a tournament next week. We might want to play somewhere for fun with friends. Whats the best course that's not talked about too much? Thanks

Will you have a rental car?

There are some great courses that are a bit of a drive away.

High Meadow Ranch is my favorite in the area, but it's probably a good hour drive from central Houston (without traffic).

Try 'Link at west Fork' up in Conroe. About 10-15 minutes from the Woodlands. One of my best kept secret.

Woodlands to High meadow ranch will be a hike, but if you dont mind it, then do it. Otherwise, if you want something within 30 mins, fish creek, wind rose are 2 that come to mind.

Check golfq.com for possible coupons.

Fish Creek is a good challange and typically in very good condition: Woodforest Golf *

Augusta Pines is closer, they play a Champions Tour event there, but check the condition as it varies: Augusta Pines

Cypresswood's Tradion Course is a good track, but only the Tradition Course there: Cypresswood. *

*can be difficult to find for some

I thought the OP stated 'the best course NOT talked about'? Everyone raves about Woodforest and is talked about as one of the best courses to play and I tend to agree. But what are ya'lls faves that NOONE really talk much about that's YOUR 'personal' favorite?

http://www.windrosegolfclub.com

My friend who I play with about once or twice a month lives 10-15 minutes away from there. I told him one day let's play at Windrose and he says,"Wind what?"

Also, looks like their event calendar is empty for this month.

Eagle Point is the one course in the "area" that if it were 20 miles closer, they could charge double and the place would still be packed. Great track that's a lot of fun to play. Except the 16th hole. I hate that MF. :russian_roulette:

Oakhurst is one that hasn't been mentioned.....

If you are member at club, have your pro call and get you on Walden on Lake Conroe. Considered one of the best tracks in the state!
