If you hate Rap why click on a thread titled "Hip Hop/ Rap Listeners"? Just so you can be that guy?

I'm not allowed to have an opinion?

I've been listening to rap since I was 6 years old (1985).

My current favorites I'm no particular order are:
Lil wayne/Drake
Kendrick Lamar
2 chains
School boy Q

I pretty much listen to hip hop nation (ch 44) on Sat radio or the hip hop monsters station on spotify.

I like listening in my cart while I play ( on low volume of course, not to disturb others)

I go through phases, but mostly just for nostalgia purposes. I can't stand the new stuff where the guy makes a bulleted list of all the things he owns and how great he is. Rap has basically become self marketing. As for the older stuff I love We Can't be Stopped by the Geto Boys, Wu Tang Forever by the Wu Tang Clan, The Chronic, and the first 2 Eminem albums. Occasionally I will listen to newer stuff, but very rarely. The last rap album I loved was Be by Common. After that I kind of lost interest. My favorite rap album ever is Paul's Boutique by the Beastie Boys. I spent 2 years in high school working at a gas station with a green cassette that I played over and over. It was Paul's Boutique.

When I had xm in my car I loved to listen to hip hop nation and shade 45. Schoolboy Q is really underrated rapper. His story to the top is pretty cool. He was Kendrick hype man and Kendrick told him needed to start rapping and he became bigger than his old boss

My undisputed #1for hip-hop is Atmosphere. So many incredible songs and albums and a GREAT show to see live.

I also enjoy Andre Nicatina, Sweatshop Union, Kid Cudi, Blue Scholars, People Under the Stairs, Jurassic 5, Deltron 3030, Living Legends, Swollen Members, and also plenty of singles I like by artists/groups too like "93 'til Infinity" by Souls of Mischief.

I always find that alot of golfers listen to rap music. I was wondering if this the same here.

When you began listening to rap?
Who do guys listen to?
Who is your favorite artist?
What is your favorite Album of all time?

AND

If you don't like rap, why?

Started listening to rap in the early 90's. My brother had some Bone Thugs N Harmony tapes and I was lovin it.

New stuff I like is Young Jeezy & T.I.
Old stuff: Dre, Snoop, 3-6 Mafia, Biggie, 2pac, Mobb Deep...etc

My favorite artist is probably 2-Pac, lyrically he would put these new guys to shame. These days its all about the beat.

Favorite album is Doggystyle by Snoop. That CD is vicious.

Good thread

Thug Life, Vol 1 w/2-Pac is another great album.

Love this thread.

Im 32 now, and I had listened to rap from about 7-8 years old until about 5 years ago.  Every rapper these days seems kind of generic.  Its like old school WWF vs current WWE.  No contest.

EDIT: And on a side note, I'm about to head over to the Rose Bowl to see the Flaming Lips and Steve Aoki.

You're allowed to have an opinion, but you're not expressing one. You're simply trolling, like you always do.

If you actually have something interesting to say about why you don't like hip hop, or why you don't think it's good music, someone might be willing to engage you.

But, when you write something like "it's not music", all you're doing is criticizing something from a position of total ignorance. You're not arguing something in good faith. You're simply trying to bait someone to react to you in an inflammatory manner.

In short, you're trolling. Like always.

I think my first rap album was sir mix a lot in like 5th grade. I played basketball for years so I listened almost exclusively to rap for a while. Wasnt until college when I started picking up the guitar that I started listening to other stuff.

Back in the day when I was in high school (late 90s-00) it was Bone, Tupac, Biggie, anything on No Limit or Cash Money labels, Dre, Jay Z, and Eminem. Eminems first few albums were great, I thought they went down with the last couple. Dre's Chronic 2001 or whatever it was called was great. Early Lil Wayne was good. Bone's Creepin on ah come up and E. 1999 were great albums.

I still listen to a little rap now. The basketball team hands me a list of popular, current rap songs for me to download for warm up music so I still have some on my ipod. Bout the only time I listen to it is while I run.

How is country anymore "music" than rap or hiphop?  I agree that a lot of the new stuff now is straight garbage, but lots of hiphop artists play their own instruments, are extremely talented producers, sing, and rap.  Rap is poetic and if you took the time to learn and listen to the some of the topics that they talk about, then maybe you'll have a different appreciation.  But outright calling it "crap" and its not "music", you're just making yourself to be a music bigot.

Growing up I listened to a ton of rap.  Mostly Tupac, Eminem, and then whatever was hot at the time.  Overall Tupac is and always will be my favorite.  I stopped listening to rap some time in the mid 2000's (2005ish) because it all went to crap.  It's still 95% crap but a couple of albums recently have brought me back in.  Specifically, the Macklemore and Ryan Lewis album is the best rap album in probably a decade.  The new Eminem album was probably his best album in a decade.  Below are a list of my personal favorite Rap albums:

Tupac - All Eyes on Me
Dre - 2001
Nelly - Country Grammer (yeah I said it.  That first Nelly album was unreal)
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - The Heist
Eminem - Marshall Mathers LP
T.I. - King
Kayne West - College Dropout and Graduation
Jay-Z - Vol. 2

In my mind, the era from 1996-2001 was the best 5 year period for rap.  That time brought you All Eyez on Me, Life After Death, Country Grammer, Chronic 2001, Slim Shady LP and Marshall Mathers LP, Vol 2., etc.

Totally agreed with this.  Today's generic rap uses the same formula as country music.  Instead of guns, drugs, violence, or women, Country music subs in Summertime, beer, trucks, and, of course, women.  They're both equally uninspired.

Jim Clark likes rap when its "sung" by a white guy about white guy stuff that generally takes place south of the Mason Dixon line.

Personally, I share the popular opinion that today's hip hop isn't as good as the older stuff, as cliche as that is.  I did see Childish Gambino live last summer at a festival and it was outstanding.  That dude brings some serious energy to his shows.  I'm glad Run The Jewels is getting some good press, but the hype machine might be out of control on them.

Don't you guys mean "crap"?

Any time some crapper comes on the radio or TV, I have to change the channel.

It's NOT music. It's just crap.

If you hate Rap why click on a thread titled "Hip Hop/ Rap Listeners"? Just so you can be that guy?

I'm not allowed to have an opinion?

I'd understand the post if it was rap vs rock or something like that. But it's a thread strictly for LISTENERS of it. Its like someone going on GolfWRX and talking about how stupid golf is just to disagree

I just have an intense dislike for "crap" and felt it was necessary to comment.I'm a country fan. As far as golf goes, why we go out there and torture ourselves continues to amaze me. I got so disgusted with my game I took last year off. I may get back out there this year, guess I'm a masochist. As far as rap, "maybe" (big maybe) it's some form of artistic expression, but it is NOT music.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but it's hard to find your stance credible when the wonderful genre of country music is pumping out crap like getting drunk on an airplane.

Big fan. I agree with most in here that rap has fallen off precipitously.

Tupac, BIG, Jay-Z, and Nas are my favorite artists in some order.

I still listen to mid-2000s Lil Wayne a lot (he had a pretty serious run, but his new stuff is eh).

Jim Clark leading the charge for anti-rap folks :superman: . Ease up guy.

Have to agree. As mentioned im not a rap guy, but there's no more sold out, god awful genre of music right now than country. I love older stuff, I've been to see Willie Nelson. New country is unlistenable.

Random tidbit, my first ever concert was seeing Vanilla Ice open for MC Hammer in 4th or 5th grade. My friends were crazy jealous!

Hey! You over there, I know about your kind

You're like the Independent Network News on Channel 9

Everywhere that you go, no matter where you at

I said you talk about this, and you talk about that

When the cat took your tongue, I say you took it right back

Your mouth is so big, one bite would kill a Big Mac

You talk too much You never shut up

I said you talk too much Homeboy you never shut up

You talk about people, you don't even know

And you talk about places, you NEVER go

You talk about your girl, from head to toe

I said your mouth's moving fast, and your brain's moving slow

let me start by saying I'm not a fan of rap music. But to say it isn't music is not fair. The stuff you hear on the radio is just like country radio...... Awful. The real stuff is older or not mainstream. I'm willing to bet you consider luke Bryan and Florida Georgia line "country".  I can tolerate older hip hop like tupac but newer stuff is terrible.

How is no one going to point out that the one dude (edit - I assume?) listed Trina in his favorite rappers? This made my day. Does Warren Sapp get royalty checks?

What do you think these kids on tour are listening to? It ain't Benny Goodman ; )

Even Bubba is making rap songs. and

Rap music fuels Nick Watney's rise up the golf charts
