I've been into J. Cole, Big Sean, and Kendrick for awhile. My new guy is Joey Bada$$ - his album Amerikkkan Badass is great.

Couldn't agree more.

Like the new:
Oddisee

Snoop
Styles P & Talib Kweli

I'll check those guys out. My son turned me on to Joey Bada$$ - the next ones he recommended for his ancient father are the Flatbush Zombies.

I don't listen to much of the new rap, mostly because it's terrible and lacks lyricists. Rap in the late 90's was at its height and I prefer to listen to the old school stuff. Hip Hop BBQ is my favorite station on pandora. Started listening waaaay back in the day. Splat Pack is one of the earliest I have memory of listening to

There are a bunch of great lyricists out these days...they're just not on the radio or played in the club.  ITunes, Pandora, YouTube, and spotify have changed the way people consume music forever.  That, and clear channel buying up all the radio stations and concerts.

I listen to Pink Floyd more myself now than anything...and Radiohead, Coldplay, Prince, Dylan.

I loved rap in the late 90s though (as I said above - Mobb, Nas, Wu, Jay, Big, etc.). I was more into East Coast.

I love me some LZ, and apparently so did the Beastie Boys.  This is just one example, but the entire album has LZ samples throughout it.

It's like that and like this and like that and uh
It's like this, and who gives a f*ck about those?

Nobody beats Dre's overall production.  The Chronic is a classic.
