I got many many doz. when Budget Golf had the blemisg for 15 a doz.  With 15% off, 13.50 a doz. that was the deal of the century.  I bought the new 2014 fg, seems close but i found it to be a little harder, and a bit "clicky".

Big fan of the FG Tour. Look at all the buzz the chrome soft is generating, but the fg tour was already in that space a few years ago (low-compression, 3-piece tour ball).

Just picked up a few boxes of the '14 fg tour at a golf show here for a great price.

Love this ball as well. Doesn't stand out for any one thing (spin, distance, etc) but really really good blend of everything.

I tried some for winter golf here in Dallas, also from Budget Golf (they are an awesome online store, btw).  They were pretty decent, I am not sure what model year they were.  Also got them cheap, like $20 back in the fall.

Really surprised that the ball doesn't get more hype in general, even on here, though I do know there is somewhat of a cult-like following of it.

It is a lower compression ball that performs like a tour ball, which is something I think a lot of folks may enjoy.

To expand on my earlier statements, say if you were going to judge elements of a ball on a scale of 1-10, including driving distance potential, sidespin, greenside spin, putting, I think some balls would have a 10 in say one category but much lower on some other categories.  But I think the FG Tour would be a consistent 9 across the board.  It won't necessarily spin like a Prov1 on a wedge, or necessarily travel as far as a B330 Tour off your 7 iron, but, unlike those balls that may have some downsides to their positives, the FG Tour is really REALLY good at everything.

I've been thinking the same over the past few months.  I think the FG is a four piece, but in my mind it's a low compression tour ball, which is exactly how the chrome soft is marketed, so I'm not sure how the chrome soft is ground breaking.  I'd love to see a comparison review of the two.

I have yet to try the Chrome Soft, but I'm looking forward to comparing it against the FG Tour. My initial thought is that the balls will play and feel very similar. The Chrome Soft has a compression of 65 compared to 70 of the FG Tour. And, I doubt the extra mantle layer in the FG Tour will make that much of a difference.

Callaway certainly deserves credit in using the Chrome name on these new balls. The Chrome and Chrome+ were excellent balls that were well-received. Combine that with the market trend of golfers wanting softer compression, I'm not surprised by the buzz the Chrome Soft has been generating. However, the marketing hype from Callaway does make me laugh. Both the FG Tour and the Bridgestone RX series have been in this market space, lower compression, 3-piece urethane.balls. Chrome Soft looks to be the softest, but I don't think a compression difference of 5-10 points is all that ground breaking.

To be honest, performance and feel-wise, it is hard for me to tell the difference between the '14 FG Tour and the older version. I would say the '14 FG Tour spins a tad less off the driver, but it is not a dramatic difference.

The biggest difference is the urethane cover on the '14 FG Tour doesn't dull as easily. The older version tended to yellow very quickly.

I've never hit the 2013 version(s), just the 2014, so I can't give you a comparison against the other.   Here's my comparison of the 2014 with the ProV1, however.

Maybe a shade shorter off the driver, but definitely longer off of the irons and just as spinny.   Identical feel off of wedges and around greens.   Very sticky feel wears off rather quickly after a round or so.  Will scuff and yellow a tad faster than the ProV, but about the same time you think about retiring the ball anyway.   MUCH superior to the ProV as temperatures start to drop.

I love them and would play them more, but I can only buy them off of the Internet, no local shops carry them.   I got a fairly large stock from Academy at $30 shipped, but they're out and so am I now.  Oh well.

A few weeks back Budget Golf was selling the 2014 version at a Golf Expo here in Chicagoland for $20 (new).  They will be at the Tinley Park expo next week as well and hopefully, the same deal will be available.

I have played the Fg Tour ball from the beginning. The 2012 ball had a cover with a coating that made it sticky which gave it bite for wedges that were remarkable beyond belief .This ball's cover color did change to a dingy white after a while and feel was great. The 2013 ball was less sticky with a slight difference in bite and the color didn't change . The feel was improved along with a small gain in distance. The 2013 X model is a little harder but is great in the hotter weather. The 2014 ball has improved distance but a little less bite at the green . I play the Fg Tour ball its made me a better golfer , due to price I have to hit it straighter. The guys I play with use all the others Pro v1 's, Callaway's ,Bridgestone, Nike, and etc and I still out drive them with the Fg and they can't believe it yet they won't change --good for me!!

ps I just wish I could have gotten in on that Budget Golf sale. someone let know if that comes around again!

Another member of the fan club here!

I bought a pile of the whites a couple years ago from Budget.  The comments about the cover looking dingy after some play are valid, but it's just a minor quibble.  More recently I bought some yellows from Budget and the cover is great on those.  I also play the older Z-Star and I judge the durability similar.  In the middle of these two purchases I picked up some white X's, but haven't put them in play yet.  Bottom line for me is that the FG Tour is a great ball.

I have about 8 dozen or so in reserves, both a mix of blems, and clearance boxes from walmart of both the Tour and Tour X.  These are my favorite ball to putt with. Nobody seems to mention it, but I feel these are the most consistent putting balls I've ever used, if there is such a thing.

I went there and bought 2 dozen. They're great golf balls and I know the Chicago rep personally. He and I sat down and talked about the golf balls and thought my points were valid (cover looks dirty quick, logo not on the seam is frustrating) He told me that they would work on the logo issue but because of patent issues on urethane covers it gets touchy. I think the ball is a great product especially at that price point but getting people to sway from titleist to any other product is tough let alone trying to get wilson to gain ground in the tour ball category. It's a shame titleist has only pushed the Pro-V1 and Pro-V1x. They're great balls but making it seem like if you play golf you have to spend $45 plus a dozen on balls alone is not helping get people involved in the game.

If you have time to kill and live in the Chicago area, Budget Golf is selling the 2014 version for $20 at the the Tinley Park Golf Expo thru tomorrow.

True.  The seam is a little bit of a turn off, I wonder how it plays out with the ball flight?   I think it is a good idea to put a line on the seam for putting and drigving.  It can get a tiny bit distracting in shots that you can not place the ball.

Just had to resurrect this thread again!

I played this ball again over the weekend…and this ball is money! Long, soft…and long again! I bogeyed several par 3s because this missile went about a club too long. Held up well in the wind, good durability and great spin from irons & wedges.
Honestly a toss-up between this & the Pro-V1 for my tournament this weekend.

Excellent value for money as well. Try it players.

Thank me later.

If you swing hard and miss, it hurts a bit.
