Hello all,
I had the opportunity to go to Shepherdsville, KY this past Saturday and play a new course there called Heritage Hill Golf Club. Shepherdsville is just south of Louisville for those who aren't for sure.
The course has only been open this past week. While the youth of the course is evident there are some bright spots that I noticed while playing.
Here is my take:
Service-There is a super friendly staff there and they plenty on hand to assist you with whatever you need. The carts were brought to your vehicle as you pulled in. Plenty of cart girls to keep you hydrated throughout your round. It was hot so this was a big plus.
Price-Our round was $59 which isn't bad for a nice course in our area. I normally don't pay that much per round, but I wasn't complaining. Range balls were included in the price which was nice as I was able to warm up sufficiently before our round started.
Tee Boxes-Extremely spacious and well maintained. The ground was so soft that you tee basically slid right in the ground. It was nice not to fight with the ground as it has been extremely hot and dry here so that was nice. There are a few elevated tees which gave a nice view and look at each hole.
Fairways-Wasn't in the fairway in regulation much that day, but the ones I was in were fabulously soft. Most fairways around here that I play on don't have this much give, but this course did. Fairways were average in size, but the course does use a lot of bunkers to narrow the fairways down.
Rough-The rough varied in heights and was a challenge at times to get out of. The course would punish you in certain areas.
Bunkers-A lot of them compared to what I normally play. Some of the bunkers are very well placed and pose difficult challenges for you to think about before you play your next shot.
Greens-All of the greens were in good shape, but one green which the heat had taken its toll on. It was still playable, but need some repair. The thing about the greens here is that they look like the break more than they do. I had a lot of putts that looked like huge breakers, but didn't hardly turn at all. Green depth varies as some greens are large while others are small. Bunkers guard a lot of the greens and are placed in some hard to handle positions.
Overall-Not a bad layout. The course is very nice other than the par 3 that was burned up by the heat. I will definitely go back sometime soon. If you are in the area it is well worth the play.
