Officially i am not yet a Blade user however today i just ordered a set (4-PW) of MP-18's with PX LZ 6.0. 1 deg flat, standard loft and length with 1 extra wrap under right hand. I am super stoked as this will be my first attempt at a full bladed iron. Should have the set by Xmas!!

Welcome to the MP-18 club. Just by putting them in your bag, your handicap will drop 15 strokes, you will be 30 times more successful at work, and 60 times more desirable to the object of your heart's desire.

At least, that was my experience. YMMV.

Nard and I were talking about heavier shafts a few days ago.  Today I was at Roger Dunn's on their launch monitors comparing some irons to the Fourteens.  I noticed one flew 5-10 yards farther consistently than the rest, even with clubs with stronger lofts.  The shaft was Modus 120 S.  I found the same club with a Modus 105 S shaft, so it was now apples to apples. Again the heavier shaft was 7 yards carry longer.  When I looked at the numbers, the main thing was the spin rate was much lower with the 120s.  Now, I am not sure this is a good thing (it was definitely below what other internet articles say is optimal for a 7 iron ... maybe more variance in distance control and maybe too much rollout when I hit the green) but all things being equal, I like carrying a 7 iron 145 instead of 138.

Anyone else have observations or comments on this?  I *think* I'd trade for this. Longer with a shorter shaft = more control in my game.

Not sure if this is helpful to you, but I had something similar at a driver fitting. A heavier shaft--at 75g much heavier than I usually use--produced the fastest swing speeds for me. I was 3-4mph faster than the shaft I eventually chose (Ping Tour 65). Why didn't I go for the heavier shaft? Because it didn't feel right to me. The fitter suggested that I was subconsciously forcing it because I knew it was a heavier shaft, and I think he was right. In fact, I would even say I was consciously doing it. Also, while swinging out of my socks may be all right at a range during a fitting with no score on the line, it's not something I want to be doing on a course where bad shots are penalized.

That makes total sense.  I am going to test a lot before I do anything. Thx...

There's another possibility in play...  It's entirely possible that shafts can be too light for an individual.  Everyone has their own point of diminishing returns with respect to both club length and weight.  What could be happening is the Modus 120 S happens to be the proper weight for your swing and game.

Personally, I have a terrible time with shafts 70g and under.  I used to use a 90g or 100g shaft in my driver, and had a fitting session where a 43¼" steel shafted club produced 2-3 mph greater clubhead speed than the fractionally above 44", 90g shafted, driver I'd been using at the time.

It's possible, and maybe even more likely, that you were babying the lighter shaft, because you knew it was lighter.

Admittedly, I'm not a believer in 60-something gram graphite, but it wasn't all *that* long ago everyone was swinging steel shafts in their driver and woods.

Do we *really* need to have 45½" and 45¾" drivers?

One thing I have thought related to the long Driver shafts as it applies to irons... I sort of like stronger lofted irons because the net is more distance with shorter shaft, and shorter shaft means better contact, more control....

I mean I almost think the core difference between stronger weaker lofted irons is in the lie. Maybe I should bend the lie on my Mac 1025m a little upright and put shorter shafts in them.

I’m going back today to test some more. My read of the numbers yesterday was ball speed was the same for lighter vs heavier shafts.  I didn’t notice trajectory. Since this monitor calculates head speed based on an assumption of smash factor, I don’t give it much credibility. But it does measure ball action directly and spin was the variable that jumped out.

Been playing MP 32s .. just purchase a set of used MP 33s, they will be here Wednesday.  Played very well with these clubs in the early 2000s... never should have got rid of them.  Nothing beats that buttery feel!

There seem to be a lot of people who end up going back to those MP33s.
I'm tempted to buy a set just to give them a proper trial now.

I just bought a set of 33s for $80 bucks and so far they have been incredible. Have responded to every shot I've needed to hit and not near as punishing as I would'v expected a blade to be.

I would say +7 yards on an iron is worth delving into. Recommend taking a trusted iron and experiment for a while. I took like 6 months of range time to reach conclusion.Could have decided faster but flex profile was a factor too and true "aha" did not happen right away. Over 18, fatigue is always an issue, so going heavier raises that bar a bit but having split rounds between both, the heavier performed better. Obviously your mileage may vary but messing around with this was like using 'muscle confusion' in the gym. It wakes up your swing, flaws get highlighted and easier to rectify.I have better divot pattern because of the S300's and use of legs and core improved with the Rifle X's. I hit the Apex #4 and DG SL's better now too and maybe could have worked that out with those but real results with impact, ball flight, divot, do not lie. Well worth doing.

I disagree about not being pretty. They look compact with that nice sharp toe. They're on my short list. Little bead blast would make them come alive.

I also think they're nice looking.  When I get my hands on them, I will be very surprised if they are not essentially the Kyoei MB.

Took the MP18’s out for the first spin today.  Chilly, but beautiful day in the Pacific Northwest.  New sticks felt amazing!  Wish I had more daylight. I could have played 36 easy today. Unfortunately 18 was all the daylight would allow.

Absolutely Blown Away is all I can say.  I love them!  Tons of great shots today.  One of the best Iron play round I have had all 2017 golf season.

I did have one thin shot.  Crazy but I felt like I knew what groove it was on(second from the bottom) didn’t hurt my hands at all like everyone said it would(topped out at  43° Today so very chilly) and all the ball did was come out like a low rocket from 170 yards(6iron).  On a rope dead straight... I felt it for sure, but zero pain like all the nonbelievers keep saying. Forgiving? It was just past the pin... I did come up short on a few shots as well, but I hit slightly heavy shots out of some pretty soupy/wet spots. It is not a rumor, Washington gets a ton of rain and especially this time of year.  Not sure my AP2’s would have done any better.

My usual deep left miss was Nonexistent today.  I am not sure I have the answer on this one dialed in yet.  Maybe it’s that it has less offset or maybe I have better control of the sword like club.  Not sure... More playing/testing tell I figure this part out.

Yesterday after I hit all day off a mat with my launch monitor I still was thinking it could not be true that they are that easy to hit.  I’ve been in the honeymoon stage before so I understand how this works…Woke up today praying it wasn’t just a fluke and reality would hit once I was on the course.  Today was the big test and they passed with flying colors!  Could not have been more impressed .   Far exceeded my expectations!

I wish you guys/gals could have seen my buddies face when I pulled them out before the round “those are going to kill you today” with a smile on his face.  After the round he asked me if I would go test some blades at our local golf store with him this weekend.

My only regret is not trying out blades a long time ago.  Shame on the golf manufacturers for pushing the “game improvement “ clubs so hard.  I even think the YouTube folks are brainwashed.  I have watched so many MP18mb reviews with guys saying “really scary behind the ball” or something to that effect.  The club face and top line on my AP2 is the same darn size.  Why would you be afraid?  Before I purchased 3 sets of AP2’s 712,714 and 716’s I never once heard a reviewer say anything about them being scary behind the ball.

This is going to be fun! Let’s go!

Has anyone ever tried the Tour edge Exotics Blades? I just saw them on Budget Golf's ebay page. They are not pretty but come in Left hand. That surprised me most.

I disagree about not being pretty. They look compact with that nice sharp toe. They're on my short list. Little bead blast would make them come alive.

Me. 20% deal a week or so ago was too good to pass up.
I also think they're nice looking.  When I get my hands on them, I will be very surprised if they are not essentially the Kyoei MB.

Curious to hear some reviews on them. Tour edge equipment is ugly to me but they are local and the lefty option made me happy.

The fitter suggested that I was subconsciously forcing it because I knew it was a heavier shaft

While that can certainly happen, in this case I don't think I was holding back because of the lighter shaft. The 75g (or so) HZRDUS felt very heavy, and just hitting it for 5 shots or so was an effort. One other reason why I didn't pick it was because I couldn't envisage myself being able to hit more than 7-8 practice shots at the range with it without getting back ache.
Funny you mention steel shafted drivers, though, as I have been swinging some recently as I go back to enjoying persimmon. I had no problem with the weight of the steel shafts, and in fact quite enjoyed the kick they provide. But that HZRDUS combination felt heavy, especially just holding it as deadweight rather than swing weight. I don't know why that should be.

NCN isn't the advocate we want, he's the advocate we need.

Edit*** I did snipe my father in law a set of JPX EZ forged irons new in the box this morning for $310. They're not blades, but he doesn't have the discipline for blades.

Wmblake can attest to that :D

Been playing MP 32s .. just purchase a set of used MP 33s, they will be here Wednesday.  Played very well with these clubs in the early 2000s... never should have got rid of them.  Nothing beats that buttery feel!

There seem to be a lot of people who end up going back to those MP33s.
I'm tempted to buy a set just to give them a proper trial now.

I just bought a set of 33s for $80 bucks and so far they have been incredible. Have responded to every shot I've needed to hit and not near as punishing as I would'v expected a blade to be.

You can't steal a set for that cheap. Nice.

I haven't had but a few swings with them at the same time I had 681's out for a test. I was so enamored with the 681's that I didn't hit the CBX much at all.....plus the stock shaft offering is just junk for me (KBS Tour). They are a little larger shape when compared to Taylormade P730 or Titleist 718 MB. Topline is acceptable to my eye and the sole isn't overly wide given that the toe to heel and face height are a little bigger than those mentioned above. Chrome is bright for sure and if I add a way to glass bead blast them I would in a minute.

How are you liking them?

Real motivated to resurrect mine. Plenty stoked I found an original shaft that matches and have nailed down specs for the club and trim specs of Rifle shaft. Thank you Howard Jones.  I will back engineer dowel and fabricate to restore #6 to glory. Once done, they are starting rotation.

Enough that I went and found a set in better than average condition to replace the beater set I purchased to try to make sure they would be something I like. Likely going to off-season out as my gamer set. I have a lot to choose from so for them to steal a spot makes them pretty decent in my book given their age. Will tinker around with some different shaft combos over the course of the next few months.

Not sure if I made a big mistake or not but I just purchased a baby blade 6 iron since my newish set of taylormade 2014 mbs were missing a 6 iron. A little worried if I like the BB too much since one club costs $300+ but I have seen full sets for $1800 but they may be without the custom shaft upcharge. Would like a black set but that nearly doubles the price. I'll give a small impression when it gets here. Also to me the taylormades look small to me but heard their 730s are smaller? Or are they just thinner?
