Complete Ownage ...of some jerk on the local Muni.

As we all know, the Municipal courses aren't known for their golf-savvy patrons, and today was no exception. The first 4 holes are all VERY reachable par 4s from the men's blue tees (302,298,292,325yds respectively). After one of the weaker golfers in our group dropped a drive on the green on the 3rd hole while the group in front was putting (thankfully didn't land too close to them), we decided to wait until they were off the green on the 4th hole (325) before myself and the other better golfer in the group teed off.
As we were waiting, the group behind us came up to the tee box. After getting out of their carts and standing behind us for a minute or two, one guy asked us "Are you guys waiting for anything in particular?"
I responded, "Well, we're going for the green, so we're waiting for them to clear before we hit"
The idiot responds, "I'm pretty sure that there's a rule that says you can tee off on a par 4 while the group is on the green"
Me: "Well, we almost hit them last hole, so we're waiting"
The Idiot: "You guys playing with John Daly or something? Maybe you should play the black tees."
So, needless to say, this had me riled up. This guy was obviously retarded, and I wanted to knock him upside the head. Yes, I could have been playing the black tees...but it's my roommate's birthday weekend, and his first time out on a course...so we're playing the same tees as him!
Once the green cleared, I started to worry. I had a feeling that maybe I was going to be 'the loser' that says he's going for the green & ends up duffing one 50 yards. But, thankfully I think my rage overshadowed my fear. I stepped up, and hit a monster. Perfect, soaring launch angle, nice little butter draw, overtop of the trees on the left side of the fairway....and plop. Pin-high on the green, 325 yards away. Sat down like I had hit a wedge from 100 yards out...haha
I picked up my tee, turned around and shot the moron a look, as if to say ""how's that for a drive, jacka--!". He had a pretty big look of astonishment on his face...it was a true kodak moment.
I've been driving the ball terribly all year, but man, THAT was the perfect time to hit one of my best drives of the year!!

If he had just something like that I would have said sure, you can go ahead of us, but you'd better wear a helmet when you're on the green, cos I've heard golf balls can make a dint in a man's skull. Actually, don't wear a helmet, your skull's thick enough as it is.
Cool story though man, I wish I could just poke one out there 325yds - my best drive on the weekend was only a meazly 295yds

Do us muni boys a favor and stay away next time. M'kay pumpkin?
edit: YAY!!! my 3000th post. makes me feel like i've come full circle. extra special is the irony of it coming in an "ownage" thread.

Congrats on the lucky drive.
Personally, I don't play Muni's too often, maybe once a month but I know enough "muni-course knowledge" to keep pace with the group ahead. Muni's here are known to be places where you can actually play a faster round than the other courses that have frequent tourist. Muni-Course Knowledge is to play fast....even if it means hitting an iron off the tee. Especially when you have a beginner who'll probably take a bit longer then you to get on the green. Either that, let him hit first and then you can hit your drive last. It's a matter of just playing Ready Golf.

How about you ASK before making an ASSumption.
First off, I do not have an elitist attitude. I simply know that a municipal course is a place where you're going to see a lot more inexperienced golfers than you would at semi-private or private courses...which is why we went there in the first place, because we weren't sure how fast my roommate would be. He was keeping pace with everyone else. He hit quite a few good shots, and I think he wound up with a score of around 102.
Secondly, I did not make a 'scene'. Like someone stated earlier, I could have confronted this guy and made a real scene, but I simply stepped up & hit the ball. The fact that it wasn't a snap-hook was gratifying, and I thought that the series of events was somewhat comical...or at least comical enough to post on here and share the story.
Lastly, the weaker players DID tee off first...and up until that point we had been waiting on every shot, as was the group in front of us, and the group in front of them, etc etc. The fact that we waited for the green to clear did not disrupt the pace of play one bit, because as soon as we got to the next tee we had to wait again. You're out of your mind if you think a municipal course on a Saturday afternoon is going to be pumping out 4 hour rounds. We were very happy to finish in just under 5.

Hmmmm...I guess that 4hr 20min rd I played yesterday afternoon at a public course, on a Saturday, in a charity tournament, four man scramble, two foursomes to a hole for 18 holes with a shotgun start must've been a figment of my imagination...

Golf courses are like a dime a dozen in Florida right... I bet your geographical area has a little to do with course congestion... among other things.
Nice mix of comments on this thread
who cares if you go for it... if that's what your feeling at the time don't let anyone change your mind. Indecision messes me up all the time.

pretty standard... if you ask me. i don't think i've ever played in a scramble that's taken more than 4 3/4 hours.
But i know what the original poster is saying. you go play just about any sub-$20 muni here in Portland and you're in for at least a 4 1/2 round on a goat track. i don't think he portrayed any type of elitist attitude, but he was simply stating the facts. Most muni's aren't anything like Bethpage...

Must be nice. The courses up here get quite crowded on weekends, so like I said, 4 hour rounds are pretty much unheard of.

As far as fast scramble tournaments? Heck, I was stuck in a construction worker's tournament for US Homes a few years back and quit after 16 holes to make an appointment. We had been at it for 6 hours when I bailed. I think it is a crap-shoot when you are in a scramble. It can go fast, due to only playing one guy's shot, or get wayyyyyyyyyyyy out of hand with guys who can't make up their mind who's ball to play.
Electroleum, don't let ANY of the posters get under your skin. We ALL get a bit grouchy and opinionated, from time to time.
You did the right thing and luckily that drive was on the money. Imagine how this story would read if it had been that ole snapperooo that gets us all, sometimes, following a long wait.

Most likely 5-6 hours round during weekend, even with the early tee time.
Fish tank is geting smaller with more fish swimming it. Just have learn to live with it.or get in some Private tracks where most people don't play on Sunday morning.
I used to be able to get an 18 done early in the morning, for just over 3 hours of time ( a 4-some on a hilly 6,700 yards track ), and go back to work. Nowadays, it's even crowded at 6 A.M. in the morning, for a 4 1/4 hour round.

but the thing that really gets me going is when you finally get to tee off the guys who wanted you too hit seem to always talk the whole time your swinging, that make me actually think of the good ol kick in nads

huh I like that one.... hell it's casual round, I would have probably taken 3w off the tee just to keep things going. We have a short uphill par4 hole ~300 yards..sure I've hit the green a number of times with my drive when the wind is helping, but 90% of the time the risk/reward is not worth taking driver.

he says '' guys im waiting for the green to clear iv' bin the gym''
so we all wait and a few people are around watching and he aligns upto the ball and proceeds to take his shot.
So off he swings completes his swing and he looks up then sharply down and me and my other mate off +2 look at each other and see that he had just fresh aired his 1st tee shot infront of 20 people he then stared for a second at the ground when his ball fell off the tee haha.
From there he hit a 5 iron down there and finished the round with a 5 over groce!!

It took you 7 hours to come up with that? (I saw you online immediately after I posted. On the other hand, I just got back online.) You could have done much better, especially in that you've missed the entire crux of my point. But this isn't surprising as this other guy was an idiot/jerk/jack@ss, and I make "ASSumptions" and you are the bastion of ownage
Either way, I'm going to move this thread to the kiddie section as it seems fitting.

a friend and i went to play one day. we weren't paying attention and mistakenly showed up an hour after the Senior Scramble started.
needless to say, we are both extremely slow players. (he has arthritis and i have bad hips. ironic because he is 23 and i'm only 18 (17 at the time)).
we started the back nine in an effort to avoid all but the fastest players in the scramble, to no avail. we were on the par 5 13th hole when we were approached by someone in the group behind us to ask us to play through. when there were still some people on the green. my friend, for the first time in his life, actually hit the perfect driver shot. it set him up perfectly for his favorite club, the 2 iron. (not sure how or why, seems how he can barely use 10 of the 14 clubs in the bag. more irony that the hardest club to use is the only one he's mastered :P )
as we were waiting, some jackA$$ came up to my friend and starts screaming his head off (*NOTE- i will have to edit what he said. just a warning.) :
"Hurry your panzy-A--es up! You two F--ks are slowing down our mother f--king scramble! Just hit the d--n ball! You can't hit it that far anyways! Son of a b--ch!" and drives off.
Needless to say, my friend was shaken. he then proceeded to shank his next shot, and the three after that. he was so frustrated that he was going to pick up and meet me at the next tee when i told him to keep playing, courtesy of the old guy who yelled at us.
this situation still annoys me to this day. my friend who is not a decent (or even mediocre) player by any means was in perfect position to score an eagle for more than likely the only time in his life, and this jackA$$ ruined it.
when we let the guy in the pro shop know, he told us that the next time something like this happens from the same guy, we need to drop our round and wait at the clubhouse for him to finish. apparently there's a guy that does this a lot, but he usually finishes and leaves before the people he screams at get finished. they're trying to identify exactly who it is and revoke his membership.
anywho's, i'll let you get back to your regularly scheduled lives.

Looks like we have to run into a couple around here as well..
What's with giving a guy heck about waiting for a green to clear before trying to drive it??
