1.) Edgewood - which you can play weekday twilight for about $150.00. This is a very scenic course with GREAT amenities, albeit none of them cheap. But a golf vacation to Tahoe shouldn't be without it.

2.) Lake Tahoe Golf Course - This is a municipal course (I think). While this ain't Edgewood, you can walk this course weekdays for under $50 (and they take tee times 2 months in advance). Nice course, quite scenic (but not on the lake), and a bargain.

Truckee is 30 minutes away. Ponderosa is an interesting 9 holer for about $20. The wives could drop you off and they could shop at Northstar (which also has a course ), Squaw Valley (another course but is overpriced and has a poor layout), or walk around the shops in downtown Truckee.
I think you should either bite the bullet and play Incline or not play at all. There's lots of great things to do around Incline than play golf and the Hyatt is a beautiful hotel.

Jet ski rentals, parasailing, some very nice scenery and hiking trails (especially around Emerald Bay). http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=506
There is a lot to see there, including an underwater park if you dive.
Camp Richardson is a cool place for lunch and rents practically anything (bikes, boats, jet skis). There are horses here as well as at Zephyr cove.
For more golf there are two more courses at Genoa Lakes (one designed by Johnny Miller and the other by Peter Jacobsen). These are semiprivate and reasonably priced, but I have yet to play either. http://www.genoalakes.com/golf.html
There really is plenty to do. Regardless of where you stay... enjoy!

Thanks. I was looking at Genoa. It looks pretty close to SLT. Maybe a god option. This will be my first venture to LT in the summer. I usually ski there only. Looking forward to it.

So... are you gonna review the Genoa Lakes courses for us after you play.
If that's the track we play I would be glad to offer my opinion. Now whether my opinion is worth anything...who knows?
Checking the website it looks like the wind is a big deal down there. They offer a $1 off for every MPH the wind blows!
"Genoa Lakes is now offering wind discounts off of our twilight rates at both of our courses after 2:00 pm EVERYDAY. All twilight golfers will be given a discount of $1 for every mph the wind is blowing. If the wind is blowing 20mph at the time you check in, you will be given $20 off of our twilight rate. This discount does not apply to our Resort Course's Local Rate of $49, but if the wind discount beats that rate, we'll give you it instead. Both golf shops have been equipped with technology to tell the average windspeed and readjusts every 2 minutes. Come on out and TAME THE WINDS of Northern Nevada. We look forward to seeing you blow in"

Can't predict thru August... but right now winds are not a problem!
Moisture up from the south means thunderstorms in the sierra come summertime, but I doubt they would be as far east as Genoa, and this has been a VERY dry season. Unless things change drastically over the next month... I think you will be in for very good weather (mid 70's to low 80's).
Have fun!

-20 minutes to the north in King's Beach is Old Brockway. Only nine holes, but a real gem, and about 40 bucks to walk. The original Bing Crosby Clambakes were there before they went to Pebble. One of my favorite courses, ever. Course record is a 31 w/ hickory shafted clubs. You can rent them if you want.
-40 minutes north is Northstar. Afternoon rates are about 85. Front 9 is wide open, meadow/linksy style, back 9 is tight, tree lined mountain golf. Nice.
-An hour away to the North are Squaw Creek (played there 2 weeks ago, greens in horrible shape), am rates are 95 bucks, Coyote Moon in Truckee is my favorite Tahoe course and is immaculate. About 150 to play in the am. Old Greenwood is also there and is 175 in the AM.

trust me you will probably get atleast half of it back. actually right now here in reno it is consecutive 99* weather for this whole week. its really good now. but if you get anything like we got there in our junior tournament you will likely have a search party looking for you because you got blown so far away from the course!

On Friday afternoon or evening I have to check into our hotel in SLT so I'll be right down the road. We are splitting it up 2 days up in Incline and the rest in SLT. Sorry if one of my earlier posts wasn't clear. I wanted to play in Incline area but too few choices. My buddy is a high 'capper and said he couldn't appreciate the Incline course or Coyote Moon, etc. So I'll see what's up. I want to give him some options and still give the wives something to do. Personally, I'll be broke within 24 hrs so it will depend on Mr. Visa.

First let me say that the wind was howling off Lake Tahoe. That combined with the altitude and Miller Lites it made for a distance nightmare for me. I play a lob wedge from greenside bunkers and I usually carry one with very little bounce. Not a good combo in the light fluffy sand of Edgewood. But I managed.
The course is a gem. Elevation changes, large pines, sand, creeks and lakes. Tough short par 4s. You really have to play the holes backward to score well. Meaning you just dont get up on the tee and bomb away. Figure where you want to play your approach and put your tee shot there. There are some holes that you must work the ball. There are a number of holes with trees in the middle of fairways. But the green complex' are where this course can kill you. Be very happy with hitting the middle of the green. If you miss the green your score will certainly suffer.
I think I actually used every club in the bag and it's rare I can say that.
The greens were getting a bit shaggy and bumpy late in the day so there was an element of luck involved on the greens. But if you don't put your approaches under the flag they can be a slick. Again, laying up to an approach of 90 yards or 115 for my wedges was the key.
I had a great time shot 83 and was happy with that. Birdied 18 to close out my buddy and then went inside and ate at the restaurant with our wives. It was perfect watching the moon reflect off LT and eating a great meal. I highly recommend the resturant aswell.
If you drag your sticks to LT it's a must play. I rationalized the $225 green fees as a solid 6 hours I would be away from any other gambling and that's a big overall savings. But it's only money and we cant take it with us, right?

Glad to hear you had fun.
Note to others... depending on month, day, and time, you can play this course for as little as a hundred bucks.

We played early in the morning and got around in 3:15 (twosome). The wildlife, mule deer, white pelican, western quail added to the beauty of the place.
Course service was impeccable.

All the holes have lots of character and are well bunkered. There are many different rates for members, guests of members and public play. Public play is around 115 dollars with a cart but I am a homeowner up here so I get a member rate and a guest rate for any guests. If you would like to receive the guest rate PM me as I can help you save a good amount of money. I also just started working there in outside services so you can visit me or what not haha.
Overall a GREAT TRACK!
