The ball I always come back to is Titleist. I'm having some restless nights thinking about that platinum ball taking over. Otherwise Titleist has always performed the best for me.
I always come back to Titleist. I recently enjoyed a round with the B330 tour. Why would I entertain anything else? Easy --- I am a sucker to think there's always something better.
I have noticed that the ProV1x (my standard) is not holding up very well. With 30+ rounds, I have a consistent record of scuffs and cuts after 1-2 holes. I've learned to ignore it (just like the junior days), but it is still annoying. I do have clubs less than a year old, so that accentuates the problem. However, the B330 does not show the same wear.
I just bought a bunch of NXT's so I will be good on Titleist for a while. The Bridgestone balls do look intriguing and I purchased a sleeve to use in my next round.

somebody put up a poll or something for the One Platinums please???

Obviously you're not that big of a sucker...I haven't replaced my K either. 365cc's of raw power and deadly accuracy. As for the Sasquatch? I laughed at salesman when he had me demo one. I tried it anyways for the heck of it and snap hooked it all over the place. He was like "So! Whadda you think? I already sold six of these beauties already today...." He didn't appreciate my response.
sorry...ball thread. B330 was nice, long but a little too clicky for me. I like ProV1. Can't wait to try the B330s. I usually end up defaulting right back to 1994 ProV1.
i use the NXT Tours. i like them a lot. i would use Pro-v, but too expensive. i also use either Precept Extra Spin or Precept U-Tri Tour. i like all three golf balls. i'm not totally sold out to any of them, which could be good or bad, but that's alright. scott c.
The NXT tours are a solid ball, especially the new ones. Good distance, mid/high trajectory, and good spin on approach shots. The only thing they don't do as well as the ProV1 is spin on partial wedges. The NXT's spin on these shots is OK, just not great like the V1's.
The ball that might knock these out of the bag are the new Bridgestone E5's/E6's. The testing will have to wait until May though, blasted Canadian winter.
I have been using the HX Tour 56 this year and found it to be great. Really long and better in the wind than any other ball. But it's winter and the ground is soft so I don't need a ball that can spin. So I had a go of the Titleist NXT Tour. A complaint I have had about a lot of cheaper balls is the feel they have but the NXT is great. Almost as soft as Pro V1/ HX Tour 56. I also see a little improvement in distance with this ball and in the winter the spin isn't really important. Great ball for this time of year. 5 stars.

Also liking the HX Tour 56, only complaint being the discoloration which this ball seems to be prone to, if you like the NXT tours, then why not save yourself a =few ££££'s and try the Pinnacle Exception.
Both made by Acushnet and I personally prefer the Execption over the NXT tour. Don't know why but it just feels that bit softer...
Generally speaking in the summer I prefer the ProV1x.
I alway go back to titliest NXT Tour. They've been dependable balls for me. Pretty good ball for the value. One day when I'm playing very well and don't lose balls very much, I might make a switch to Pro v1.
Could someone explain the playability differences between NXT and NXT TOUR?
I believe the TOUR is harder, and spins more...is this correct? And if so, what does that translate to in terms of playability?
I'm a mid handicapper with very inconsistent drives. However, they are NOT slices...usually pushes.
Thanks.
NXT Tour is poor man's version of Pro V1.
NXT produces less spin. I've used NXT Distance before but didn't like them due to lack of spin to stop on the greens quickly.
Apparently the new version of Tour has more spin and hit further. It took me a while to figure out which is which.
New ones has a dash between NXT and Tour. The older ones has a dot and blank between NXT and Tour. I'm going to assume that the blank ones are the original. I never noticed it till now and I have 3 versions of Tour in my bag. oh well.
nxttour is a good cold weather ball. The feel of v1's is butter. The x feels like i'm throwing it kinda, it just dosen't get along with my iron game. off the tee the x's play well I think but overall i stick to v1's cause teh box has a cooler colour. no seriously the cover of the v1 i just can't get enough of.
The only thing I don't like about the X is that it checked a bit too much for me.. I'm kind of a bump and run guy.. and this thing just stopped on me and I was 20 ft from the hole and I was like "wtffff???"
As much as I want to hit evryone else's ball, I always come back to Titleist. The ProV1x is the best, but they're too expensive for my blood (and skill), but I love the NXT Tour. By far the best ball that I will actually play without it being a gift.
yeah provs are definteley the best ball on the market by farr...i use both the prov1x and the prov1, ive tried using the new taylormade tp blacks and the callaway hx tour 56 but I just dont get the same confidence with them as I do standing over a prov...just something about them i guess
ProV1x is my ball now. Noticeably longer and better and I've hit them all....
Update: This is NOT my ball. Had one scuff all up after only one hole. And I parred it with no bad shots or bladed hits.
I've found the Zur-S is just as good and holds up better. And the B330S is right behind that. And the TP Black is just as good. Why pay $45/doz for balls that won't hold up for even one hole. Not me.
I used to be a titleist nut and only played the prov1. But my golf coach used to work at nike and he said in terms of spin among premiium spin balls goes in this order:
1)Callaway HX Tour 56
2)Taylomade TP RED
3)Nike Plat
4)Bridgestone B330s
5)srixon Z-urs
6)titleist Pro v1
Some people argue that if all those balls are better, why dont tour pros use them?
The answer is simple, money. Titleist says that mor tour pros use use their ball. True. But, most of the tour pros that use Titleist are "strugling" tour pros that even though they may not endorse titleist, just for teeing up a ball with titleist at a PGA event titleist sends a check for $5000 to you just for using it no matter how good you are. The other companies can't rally pay around $500,000
each tournament plus bigger checks to players such as Adam Scott and Singh. If i was on tour and wasnt a big name and couldnt really get money from other big name compaines i would go with titleist in a heartbeat. Not for the ball but for the check.
Another thing is that people get "confident" over a prov1. They think it is because they are using a better ball, but the reason is because they are being told they are using a better ball.
The last is just simply titleist did make the best ball up until aroung 7-8 years ago so it is name golfers trust.
Seems to me you're equating spin with being the best ball, which is a fallacy. Also what are the differences in spin between the balls you listed. A difference of a few hundred rpm's is going to go unnoticed.
Also, are you saying Nike, Callaway, and Taylor Made don't have the bucks to compete with Titleist in compensating players to use their ball? Last time I checked Nike was pretty big and doing fine.
When I began playing that's what I was handed to play. Now that I know that there are other choices out there, I play Srixon and Cally HX Tour 56. I know marketing says it's the king, but for this jester, I won't play them. Just another ball to me.
I like to try different balls but mainly TM, Titleist, and now Srixon, but one ball I have yet to try and hear so much about is the titleist tour balata.
Anyone ever used them, they are pricy and im wondering if they worth it?
I found a sleeve of Tour Balata's in an old bag. I must say, i've never seen so much spin on greens in my life. The distance was far shorter then the Pro V1x's, but thats to be expected. They definitely punish you if you're not a straight swinger.
A long time prov1x user, I picked up a sleeve of NXT Tour to play a 50 degree round, and the ball, at least in cold weather, is sneaky long. I was very impressed. My wedges could get a tennis ball to check so I didn't notice any problems with short game spin.
Still the best ball in golf nothing even comes close. Has anyone tried the new Titleist balls that just came out?
Yes! ProV1's. Played two rounds with them Friday and Saturday. Still the best ball. Seemed to be better in the windy conditions than before. Best feel off the putter, ever!
I'm sort of an Titleist man, I love the ProV1's, irons, wedges and the Scotty stuff but besides the 975D driver i have never loved anything in their woods department, I tested most of it and really wanted it to work for me but I just prefer the Bridgestone, Sonartec and some of the TM and Callaway products on that front.
