i am not normally a big eyewear guy....on or off the course, but with the amount of time i spend outside, in the yard, driving, or on the course, i figure i need to start protecting them some...or this 26 year old will be seeing cateract in my furture.
anyway, i dont want to spend tons as the few times i have, i broke or lost them in no time....and i dont want a "golf" set and a "everyday use" set either
my biggest issue with glasses on the course has always been my head looking at the ball on the tee (or at rest)...
oh, i must say, i dont care for wrap arounds or most oakley styles....as you can tell from the Tifosi i posted these are more of the style i prefer.
anyway, when i have my head down looking at the ball, i generally am looking under the lens (barely) and during my back swing, my eyes then see thru the lens and at impact im back at looking under lens.....
that "shadow" effect has kept me from wearing eyeglasses on the course, however, i squint all the time and i know that is bad. i tried on some Tifosi Fades with the rose colored lens and loved the way everything lookes thru thel lens as well as on my head...but i am still worried about the coverage. anyone have these and like them? i know several here have the Tifosi brand, but what about the Fades?
also, am i really missing out on non polarized lens? i have a pair of Ray Bans and they look great as far as looking thru them, but i dont care for the style and they arent good golfing glasses...
these Fades were the lightest and most comfy glasses i have ever put on and the $60 price tag is veddy veddy nice.
Nothing will match the lens quality of Maui Jims or Revo's so if you don't get one of those two its really just polarized vs non-polarized. Mirrored lenses are also something to look for Look for a frame you like then for good lenses and your set. I personally wear Maui Jim's and I think the only thing I would consider wearing besides them are Revo's. I would rather have something alot nicer for a little bit more. I've personally never even looked at Tifosi so I can't comment on those, but if they feel good and have good lenses then they are good.
I can say that Tifosi's are highly underrated sunglasses. People probably look at the price and think they are cheaply made, but they aren't. I have a pair and have had them for two years now and not one scratch on any of the three lenses that came with mine. I love the fact that I can change out my lenses for different conditions. I know you can do the same with Oakley's and others, but the extra lenses cost a fortune with those brands. You can get extra lenses fro Tifosi sunglasses for cheap.
I have never used this pair, but I have a pair of Kilo's and they are fantastic.
The EC lenses look good for golf, but they won't provide the same quality of Revo's or Maui's.
yes, the ECs are what i am looking to get. i would prefer polarized, but the polarized are only offered in a darker shade with the Tifosi Fades.....i think with the cheaper price, i could go without the polarized.......i think
I have a pair of Maui Jim in a style that is very similar to the Tifosi picture you posted above. The lenses are charcoal. I can't remember the exact style of Maui Jim, but you get the point. I think they are very comfortable, very light and very stylish looking. The optics are great, provided that you don't expect the glasses to completely eliminate glare in heavy sunlight. I have been somewhat disappointed in those situations because I am still squinting and shading my eyes even while wearing the glasses.
I don't care for the Maui Jims on the golf course because of the glare issue and because they just aren't practical for that situation. The glasses are so light and so flexible that they don't stay put anywhere but on your nose. You can't rest them on the bill of a cap, you can't rest them on top of your head. You can't even hang them from the collar of your shirt because they will fall out if you bend over in the slightest. Basically you wear them all the time, or you put them in their case to keep them from being crushed in your pocket or on the ground.
I just purchased a pair of Tifosi Envy (I think that was the style, they don't look too athletic or golf specific) and I have been very happy with them. All of the problems with the Maui Jims have been alleviated and they are just as comfortable. Mentally, they are more comfortable, because I'm not so concerned about the glasses staying in place or being smashed if not on my nose. The optics are great and the glare is cut down more with all of the Tifosi lenses (they came with 3 pairs of lenses) as compared to the Maui Jim charcoal lenses.
Bottom line, I wear the Maui Jims with my suit for work and at social events. I wear the Tifosis for golf and any outdoor activity that has any level of physical activity. Hope this helps.
I've never had glare issues, even out on the ocean or on a very bright Arizona summer day and they always stay put on my face. It might be that the Maui Jim's don't fit your face properly, I've noticed that if I wear them lower on my nose I can see around the lenses easily which could explain any glare. That said I am actually looking for another pair of shades that I don't really care if they get scratched. The first day I had my Maui's I dropped them and kicked them when I went to pick them up... the frames are a little scratched up...
I have the Titanium Elite Runabout model. They fit well when on my face. Its any time I want to take them off that the flexibility and weight became problematic. They just don't stay put anywhere.
With previous sunglasses, I've used the retainers where you can hang the glasses around your neck. With the Maui Jims, the frames are so flexible that the weight of the retainer on the frames causes the frames to flex and move while the glasses are on your face.
The glare issue is only present when looking directly into the direction of the sun. I think the absence of any frame at the top of the lenses may have a little to do with it. Whatever the cause, I still love the glasses, just not as much for golf. I find the Tifosi to be better for golf.
i alos just saw the Oakley Square wire 3.0 tonight and loved the way they looked and fit, but i really prefer the rose colored tint, and all their options are too dark or to light for me.....
especially, if i am gonna shell out $210 for them...polarized

I'll have to politely disagree with you here. I have the Maui Jim Kapaluahs, I believe that's the style you've also got, and I recently pruchased a pair of Tifosi Dolomites. Even though the MJ's are "golf specific" IMHO the Tifosi's are a bar above. Came w/three interchangable lenses for varying conditions, which I think is genius. They have the same sticky stuff that Oakley touts will get sticker as you sweat more, making them stick you your face......(which works by the way). Lifetime warranty, and they aren't easily scrached......all-in-all...all this for about $200 LESS than my Maui Jims......it was a no-brainer for me.
Again, Just me HO....but alas, opinions are what the poster was searching for.
