I'm stuck, I really like the ProV1x. It's long off the tee, and excellent around the green. However, it's shorter off the irons for me than just about every other ball. Maybe I need more spin off irons to keep it in air longer? I found an NXT Tour yesterday and really liked it, it hit it higher off driver and irons, and was easily farther off the irons.....but it didn't bite like I'm used to around green.

Any ball suggestions? My driver ss is 101, 155 yard 7 iron.

Thanks!

Tour preferred x, as stated above, also give a try to the TP ball (non x), it has more spin on long ,mid irons, this is what you think you need. I play this ball and it does not disappoint me in any area! Good luck

While there are great balls on the market right now tp/tpx specifically. In my experience there is no alternative to the prov1x.

It either is or it isn't.

I was wondering the same thing with FG Tour X, which I am happy playing as a V1x alternative at a clearance bargain price point. I notice my irons come up short a lot on the course. Yesterday I had a 7 iron approach shot sitting a foot behind its pitch mark on the green and it was 10 yards short of what I expected.  I might be hitting good range balls further than these balls with irons.

I went from pro V1X to Srixon Z-Stars and quite liked them. Definitely less spin if you find you spin the Pro V1X too much. Also much easier to find deals on Srixons if that's a factor for you.

If you really need more spin - IF you need more spin - the Bridgestone B330 S might be a nice alternative.

NXT Tour is likely going to spin less for you compared to the V1x. I don't know for sure, but I believe the compression is a bit softer as well. If these are true, then you might like a ball like the B330-RX.

Chrome + and the new Tour Preferred... and if you can find the older ones, or don't mind spending $40 a box, wilson fg tour is a fantastic ball.

So today I played nine holes on a course that I play a lot(so I'm familiar with distances), and was slow(I was one of two groups on the front none) so I played two balls. I tried the NXT Tour vs ProV1(I usually play the prov1x).

Although I liked the NXT tour, I'm for sure spoiled by the ProV1 line.  I hit a bomb of a drive but that's about it as far as shots to remember.  The regular ProV1 was a nice surprise however! I was expecting to lose a few yards off the tee vs x and found that not to be the case at all. In fact, had my longest drive on number nine that left me an easy sandwedge into the green, which it hit to about eight feet..and made the closing birdie). The regular V1 felt softer for sure, and I played some really good short irons with it.  I'm going to give it a few more rounds and also throw in the TP ball as I'm intrigued by it as well. I really appreciate all the responses and suggestions!

I have been a long time Pro V1x user but I think the Taylor Made TP-X and Callaway SR2 are both better balls for me. They are 1/2 club longer off the irons and better in the wind. TP-X spins a little more with half wedges and around the greens. Really liking both balls better than Pro V1x. 25% off sale this past weekend they were both under $40/dozen. Not sure if the sale is still running.

I am finding better performance with the 2013 ProV1. I did not think of it as a distance ball but, like the OP, it is as long as anything off the tee (my typical drive 250+) with predictable and decent irons distance. Older versions of the ProV1 seemed to lack iron distance, something I think Titleist fixed in the current iteration. And you can't beat the feel from around the green. It performs so well that I did not feel the need to try all the new ball versions this year. Well, almost - I do have a dozen of the TM TP that I am going to experiment with.

The spinnier ball seems to be a good match with today's low spin clubs, at least for me.

I've been a long time Pro V1x user and this year switched to the Nike RZN and really like them.  I use the RZN Black and can get them to check up plenty on my home course's greens which are medium to soft most of the time, but on firmer greens, they tend not to bite quite as much.  I'm planning on trying a sleeve of RZN Platinums for the other course I frequent that has very firm greens most of the time.

Same here. Back in fall 2012, I tested the Lethal (Project 5) and 2013 P1X side-by-side - I found they performed almost identically but the Lethal had slightly better wind performance and a better sound off the driver - that was enough to make the switch! It's been the best fit for me, but I can and have happily played the Hex Black Tour, Lethal, ProV1X and B330-S with good results.
