After coming close several times over the last two years, I finally broke 80. Probably could have had a 78 but decided on the sure thing. I didn't realize how good I was doing until the turn, when adding scores I had shot a 1 over on the front nine. This was after starting with a double. I guess a couple birdies help. Back nine started bad and again after I hit a triple on the back I said noway. But still checked with 4 holes to go, needed to par or better each of them. Well sure enough, I did. On 18, which is a par 5 I hit driver, and then 4 wood. Left myself so that I needed to hit a flop from about 20 yards over a bunker. I decided to just chip onto the middle of the green not bringing sand into play. Figured I could 2 putt from about 30 feet for the 79. While I am pretty good with the flop I decided against it. I did 2 putt, but the putt hung on the edge, and nearly dropped. Very light tap in 79.
Thing is it wasn't a pretty 79. Lot's of up and downs, several poor drives, hitting out of rough, or real short. It was a grind. Several bogies, the double and triple. But when I had birdies opportunities they went it. In fact on those last 4 holes, I need to chip in to save par on 16.
Great job - good lesson to learn from that round is not to worry to much about your score and not to add it up as your going. I give you the for a top effort
Many congratulations. Major landmark.
Having to scramble it a bit shows not only a good short/recovery game but also spirit. It's not how, but how many.
im in the same boat as you. ive broken 80 before but its been a while. it always seems like you can have a bunch of good holes but then those doubles/tripples can bite you in the a**. keep grinding. good job.

Well done. My first time wasn't tidy either. I was 5 over thru the first 5 holes. Then I played the next thirteen holes at 2 over. There was scrappy play and lucky breaks a plenty along the way. I drove one dead into the trees and got a 90 degree bounce unto the center of the fairway.
I closed out with three adventurous pars, and my score was saved by some inspired, odds-defying play down the stretch. It wasn't so much that my game all came together that day, as I had envisioned. It was a lot of luck, and persistence, too.
Congrats on the milestone. There are a lot of people who have never accomplished that feat. Good luck with the game, it sounds like there are more 70ish rounds to come!
Hey congrats. I just broke 80 for my first time last Thursday and mine wasn't very pretty either. Everything off the tee and all my 2nd shots were good but i had 4 consecutive 3-putts.
Congrats! I'm in the same boat, just now breaking 80 for the first time. I kind of shocked myself by shooting a 73 to do it, but hey, I'll take it however I can!
