This is the first time i have put a hyrbid in the bag (although ive hit many of them) just because i have always been partial to fairway woods (the normal 3 and 5 in the bag). After demoing the burner fairway, the SQ2 Fairway, and the Burner Rescue, i decided to go with the rescue, with the SQ2 being in close second. I currently carry a SQ2 3 wood, and for me it is my money club, easy to work, easy to hit from tight lies, and a nice penetrating ball flight. Because of this i wanted to stick the SQ2 5 wood in the bag (even though the rest of my bag is now TM).
Reasons i went with the Burner Rescue:
- Gained anywhere from 5-10 yards of distance over my normal 5 wood distance
- Shots launch high and land very softly (Was able to stop in on the green on a 212 par 3 easily, while a 5 wood would have scooted off)
- It already looks like a fairway wood (to me anyways)
- I own a Burner TP, and for me, i like to have matching headcovers in my bag (again personal thing)
- A free dozen TP Reds came with the purchase, which was a darn good deal.
The only con i have with the burner rescue, is that the face sets up slightly closed. I already hit a draw (which is my normal ball flight), and i was scared that this would cause severe snap hooks (as most TM metal woods do for me). Even though it sets up a bit closed, i had no problem hitting nice high draws with it, i could also fade the ball with this club, just slightly opening the face at address. Overall I like the shallow face on it (i hate deep faced woods and hyrbids, another reason i hate the TM Rescue Mid).
Some people actually hate the graphics on the top of the crown of the Burner and the Burner Rescue, i actually am rather fond of it. The shaft had a nice heavy feel (or heavier than the 50G superfast RE*AX on the burner). I never felt that the shaft was whippy, sort of like i do with my Burner TP.
Overall for the money its a great club, some may see the price and go with something different, I just like to keep one manufacturer in my bag (again, this is a personal preference thing), which is what drew me to this club in the first place. Im sure you could go with a Hi-Bore hyrbid (which i think we carry in stock at www.rockbottomgolf.com right now, had to throw in some company PR hehe) or even a HALO, which is also on sale now.
Great club, i personally give it 8.5 out of 10.

I'll definitely give the Burner rescue a thorough demo along with the Cobra baffler DWS.

On Monday I demo'd the TaylorMade Burner rescue (19*) and the Cobra Baffler DWS (20* i think). For some reason, they didn't have any Hibore hybrids, but that wasn't high on my list anyway. While I was waiting to demo the clubs, I picked through the used club rack, and I pulled out what I thought was a TaylorMade r7 hybrid. Turns out it was an r7 Draw 5-wood. I figured what the hell, I'll try this as well.
First up was the TM Burner. I really liked the feel of this club in my hands. It was light enough to give me confidence to make an aggressive swing, yet I could still feel the head nicely. I did ok with it, I hit 10 of 15 attempts very straight, and the 5 that sliced were more like slight fades, actually. Avg. distance was around 195.
Next I hit the baffler, and it just wasn't for me. I couldn't find a ball position that worked. I'd either balloon it and get like 150, or I'd thin it a bit, and it'd slice. I know this club is supposed to be super forgiving, but I just didn't like it.
Being slightly discouraged at this point, I picked up the TM r7 Draw 5W. The reason I decided to demo this club in the first place was because the head is much smaller than my current 5W. It's just slightly bigger than a hybrid. I can't hit my 5-wood off the deck to save my life, mostly because the large head just doesn't suit my eye.
I'm sure you can guess where this is going: I hit the used TaylorMade r7 Draw 5 wood by far the best. My shots were all either straight as an arrow, or a very slight draw. Average distance was 190, with a best/worst of 210/170. Hot damn! I couldn't buy it fast enough.
I put it in play for the first time today, playing Turtle Creek Golf Course. I didn't have an opportunity to hit it until the back nine, on #10. I hit it off the tee and it went high and straight, 180 easily, and settled just perfectly at the corner of the dogleg.
Later, on the par-5 13th, I absolutely crushed my drive, easily the best of the day. I was left with only about 180 to the green, with the pin cut in the back. I probably could have gotten a pured 5-iron there, but I figured I'd try the TM again. I HIT MY FIRST PAR-5 IN TWO! EVER! Again, I got a high, long shot that landed on the front edge of the green and released about 15 feet. Wow! My first ever putt for eagle.
Anyway, I just figured I'd give an update. I'll keep my old-school Orlimar TriMetal in lieu of a 4H, and use my 5W instead of a 3H. The best part is, it only cost me $99!

I'm not sold on the weights, though. I play the R7 460 off the tee, and it has done wonders for distance (avg. around 285 -290) but when messing with the weights, I feel as though it did very little for me. (I do swing awfully fast, though)
Oh yeah, I'm new here. Hi everyone! Hello from Maryland!
