Madsen steps up in South Africa

On the European Tour, Morten Orum Madsen notched his first tour victory at the South African Open Championship after Charl Schwartzel folded down the stretch.

Schwartzel tripled the sixth hole and doubled the 10th to see the lead he held go up in smoke. Madsen, for his part, fired a final-round 67 to capture the title.

“I expected to play well but I didn’t expect to stand here … right now, that’s for sure,” Madsen said after his win.

Neither did the pundits.

Donald finally gets his first win of 2013

Luke Donald fired a 5-under 66 to win the Dunlop Phoenix in Japan for the second year in a row. The win was the Englishman’s first triumph of 2013.

Donald entered the final round leading by two, and a final round in which he birdied seven holes was good enough to get the job done at the Phoenix Country Club.

After winning the $400,000 first prize, Donald said, “My last win as a professional was last year at the Dunlop. It’s great to come here and win again.”

Couldn’t be happier for Jason Day to win. The man can definitely use some positivity and good vibes in his life.
