Odds on Paige Spiranac’s future after Instagram star badly misses cut in first pro start

Published

on

Because Paige Spiranac is a thing (in the social media space at least), organizers of the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters extended her a sponsor’s invitation. Putting a peg in the ground for the first time as a professional, things went about as well as you’d expect for the San Diego State alum.

Spiranac shot 77-79 (+12) to miss the cut by seven strokes. Only three golfers tallied worse two-day totals than the viral sensation.

Golf fans (some of them at least) are surely wondering what the rest of Spiranac’s year will look like. Fortunately, analysts at the website OnlineGambling.lv posted the following odds regarding the career for Paige Spiranac (this year and beyond).

Check them out.

Anyone know if you can still bet on the proposal thing? And if so, well dang I’m sure I could find someone to run on the course and propose to her. What’s the worst that could happen, she says yes? I don’t have any friends that wouldn’t give it a go if she did. Of course she wouldn’t, which is more the point. Plus easy $ for me.

i wish her nothing but the best, regardless of what she pursues. Some of the comments about her are just ridiculous. She’s a young lady trying to make her way in the world and , as far as I know, is just pursuing her dream. Good luck, Paige.

She is trying to make her way in the world all right.

Just another effect of the Tiger Woods generation, perfection in the golf swing and fit bodies. Women’s golf is growing much faster then men’s golf. Notice in the last 10 years just how many young fit and attractive ladies you see out on the course playing as good or better then us older guys that have been at it for years?

Just a different article written by a good guy before anyone else does. Give it a go, give Ben a chance. All good golfers have to be open minded, gives them a positive edge. Give Paige a chance. Yes she’s got a different appearance than some lady golfers but so has Jason Day v Tim Herron.

social media is here to stay . get use to it. I hated all the selfies at first but now I always check them out . Paige Spiranac missed the cut so did a bunch of other people. Keep trying . We keep hearing about how golf is not as popular as it once was . The sport needs to promote itself many different ways. I wonder how the LET and Dubai sponsors feel about there decision to grant a sponsors exemption based on cosmetic appeal. Somehow I think they were pleased . If only she made the cut. Maybe next time. Go Paige.

    • Philip

      Dec 11, 2015 at 11:32 am

The only thing is supposedly she has put her clubs away and is contemplating her future in professional golf. I hope the writer of the article took her totally out of context (like that never happens) and she is not considering giving up that easily. One has to strive towards high, out-of-reach goals to see what they are capable of.

All I can say is that I channel surfed, stopped at TGC, saw this shapely woman they were showing making an approach shot, could not see her, only her form, and stopped surfing for a moment. Watched her putt, did not know who she was, but she held my attention for a few minutes … and then they mentioned her name … and then I said, Ha! I’ve heard of her… definitely a looker with great form. She missed the midrange putt by a hair… nice stroke.

IMO Callaway is getting ALOT more in media attention because of her than the $ in equipment and sponsorship money spent. It’s a great return on investment and she is a gorgeous young lady who is likely to make a great brand spokesperson.

Come on! Poor article for sure. For starters, how many golfers use the term “hit a hole in one”. Don’t you usually make one? You’re one sliver away from “hey, you want to hit a round of 18 with me on Saturday?”

Beyond that, the prior posters are right. She didn’t do anything wrong and this is the wrong place for the hate. She admitted in her interviews that she wasn’t up to the challenge presented by the other ladies. She admitted she was super nervous. She was invited by a sponsor, just like hundreds of others before her who weren’t qualified but somehow were “worthy” of the attention. Every town has them, the hotshot amateur who can’t be in the big pool, the business man with the vanity handicap, or someone connected. How were Sam Saunders’ early events, do you think you can find a 77 in there? Progress takes time, she didn’t shoot Jerry Rice type numbers.

    Just kinda weak Ben.

I think golfwrx needs to consider cutting Ben from writing articles. It seems the only ones he writes are truly terrible pieces of work. It’s a new day and age in golf. Social media is a huge part of today’s world and golf, too. If we flipped the script and had someone like the Bryan brothers out there playing and they missed the cut in this manner, I don’t think their article would reflect the same, or even be wrote. She’s clearly competed well enough in college to consider chasing the LPGA after she’s done. What point is trying to be proved here by belittling her in this manner?

    • Ben Alberstadt

      Dec 10, 2015 at 6:26 pm

I always enjoy the assertion that I ought to be fired as though I’m just some free agent that publishes articles without consideration for/the input of the editorial department. Real density about how this/any other website works.

The point of the article is that an ODDSMAKER put together these odds. I’m sure you read closely enough to see that.

And it’s patently obvious that Spiranac is first a self promoter and “personal brand builder” and a golfer second. Ala someone like Blair O’Neal. Social media is a huge part of the golf media sphere, which is why we devote so much time to covering it. However, trick shot videos in painted on clothing and little more than one’s underwear needn’t be a part of that landscape, or at the very least, ought to be featured on Playboy, rather than Golf Digest.

      • Rod

        Dec 10, 2015 at 7:55 pm

Right, because no other attractive female golfer on any of the tours wears tight clothing or does trick shots on their Instagram. How dare she wear such revealing clothing away from the golf course! I bet some other attractive golfers may have even struggled in their first tournament! You’re really stretching here and your response clearly shows how pathetic it was to post this in the first place.

Paige is a breath of fresh air to golf who happens to have the looks to go along with her personality. I doubt you have yet to listen to one of her interviews. It’s sad that because of her looks, people like you feel the need to feed into hoping she fails by posting odds from an oddsmaker. Grow up! This site is better than this. Or it used to be anyway.

because that one would not get past any credible editor

          Dec 10, 2015 at 9:00 pm

Let’s shift this conversation away from Ben, guys. These are not his odds and a story we as a team thought was noteworthy. If you don’t like the article, we apologize and hope that you are enjoying our other articles on other topics.

          • Philip

            Dec 11, 2015 at 11:39 am

Zak, though I agree with you, consider this – if someone chooses to create an article based on outside content that is questionable or controversial, they cannot at a later date try to dodge (not saying that this is the case here) the negative response of the article by stating it wasn’t them who created the bad content – because said person did decide to use the content. Thus it was their choice and they are fully responsible for the article and any content in it, whether they created it or not.

Phil is right. Ben put his name on this, and its very bad. Only thing that could have made it worse is if he added odds on her getting an abortion in by the end of 2017.

Well, I’d be more interested in what fool setting these ridiculous odds. Because 4/5 odds to appear in 2016 swimsuit is an oddsmaker who has no idea what’s going on. The SI edition referenced is released in late January ’16 or early Feb. The schedule and perhaps half the shooting production is already well underway, or some of it even completed already. If Paige is not already under contract and agreed to a shooting and production schedule, the odds of this happening would be more like 5000 to 1.

Completely agree, I guess five sentences and posting odds from a betting website counts as an “article” these days. Only way to make an impact and stop this garbage is to not open it. her being good looking seems to be a curse as well as a blessing – gets in the tournament through exposure but gets ridiculed because of her performance. Then to add insult to injury gets odds put out against her career (which would never happen if she were less attractive) stating that she’s more likely to get a hole in one on the LET/LPGA than to win an event (hole in ones are what 22 million to one?) oh and is twice as likely to date Tiger Woods. Delete this entire thread before you embarrass yourselves even worse – golfwrx sexist golf website.

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons

In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.

For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • btyh: “Holy offset.”
  • Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
  • bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing

Published

on

As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.

Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.
