Nicklaus, Chamblee speak on Tiger Woods’ golf game

Published

on

Tiger Woods shot an 85 in the third round of the Memorial Tournament on Saturday at Muirfield Village Golf Club, leading to a last-place finish. Tournament host and 18-time major champion Jack Nicklaus, and Golf Channel’s Brandel Chamblee — one of Tiger’s most outspoken critics — each spoke on the state of Tiger’s game.

Watch what Chamblee said about Tiger following the Memorial:

“Time hasn’t robbed Tiger Woods of his game, he’s done this to himself,” Chamblee said, in the video above. “He’s traded his genius for the ideas of others. He’s changed his body in the gym for bulk. Everything that we see here is the result of what he’s done over the last four, five, six, seven, eight years.”

Chamblee also believes that Woods could mend his golf game by reaching out to either Butch Harmon or Hank Haney, with whom he won eight majors and six majors, respectively.

“I believe if he actually called Butch or Hank Haney, either one of them, that within a month or two they’d have him back playing some solid golf,” Chamblee stated. “I really do believe that.”

Read what Nicklaus had to say on Saturday below:

“I feel very bad for him,” Nicklaus said, according to the USA Today. “He has struggled health wise, he has struggled with his short game earlier in the year. And then he feels he’s coming back, and then he does this. I really don’t have an answer. I think he’ll get it back, though. He’s just too focused, he’s too hard a worker and he has a great work ethic. This will be a lesson for him.”

After a winless season in 1979, the 39-year old Nicklaus revamped his own golf game under the eye of Jack Grout and short-game guru Phil Rodgers, and won the U.S. Open and PGA Championship in 1980.

“It took me four or five months but I got my game back,” Nicklaus said. “With today’s technology, Tiger needs to go back and review some of his own things and do it himself. He is the only one that knows what’s really going on inside him. He is the only one that is going to be able to fix what he’s got.”

Woods started working with teacher Chris Como in November 2014. Since then, his best finish has been a T17 at The Masters, and has missed the cut twice — consecutively at the 2015 Waste Management Phoenix Open and the 2015 Farmers Insurance Open.

“He has to get to where he can take the club back and know where the golf ball is going.” Nicklaus said. “He needs to go do that himself. If he’s listening to me or if he needs any advice, please go do that because the game needs you, Tiger. You’re a good player, you’re a good guy, and we miss the game you used to play.”

the problem with the saying that “tiger should go back to what worker”, or something of the similar, is that its possible tiger doesn’t remember how he used to swing. maybe that “feeling” isn’t there anymore, or his brain is telling him that old feeling is a bad feeling and won’t let him do it. also lets not forget that it was his old swing (specifically his violent leg action) that caused his knee trouble and forced him to find a new way to swing. its funny how chamble forgets that his old way destroyed his knee, of course he is not going to start swinging that way again.

As with Tiger or any quality athletic; we are always told, that if you are having problem/issues; always revert back to the basics with a purpose and remember how you got to where you are… many times, I have seen great baseball hitters revert back to hitting the tee… 3rd basemen knocking ground balls down with no glove, just catchers gear… I am a great Tiger fan and want to see him back on top… however, he needs to swallow his EGO and get back to a teacher and caddie that got him to #1…

Tiger woods needs to come back to Australia, where it all began (The unraveling of a different life). The land will forgive him and he can go again refreshed

Jack and chamblee need to shut up
    Jack knows 1970s golf
Chamblee is a middle aged commentator

Tiger should go talk to shawn clement in toronto! Brilliant teacher. He would sort tiger out! He has an anatomically sound understanding of the body, which would help loads with his injury plagued body. Cheers.

Tiger needs to go back to basics and dig it from the dirt as Lee Trevino has stated that is how he and other great golfers did it. Not with swing gurus but on the range and digging it from the dirt. I have had maybe 10 lessons in my lifetime and my late father was my only teacher for most of it. He always had me going back to the basics from the grip to the stance etc… that is what Tiger needs to do and get back to what he does best with the golf ball and quit experimenting.

All great cultures – on their own, in one way or another Take themselves apart and Rebuild themselves.

Unlike others – Tiger’s game is a large as its own culture… Frankly I salute him.

I was a decent enough golfer in my day, I don’t know why he even comes out to play just to expose himself to such abuse.

Thanks Tiger for still showing up – and good luck to you and Chris.

Tiger has won like 80 tournaments….he is at the end of his run…
Does Chamblee expect him to win 160?
It is impossible to be perfect forever….Jason day, for example, is at the height of his powers and missed the cut at memorial…does that mean he has ruined his future?
Branded relly needs to get a grip…look at the big picture…

Tiger needs to hit 2 irons. Phil hit a 2 iron 290 yards the other day. Brandel was correct.

Chamblee speaks the truth. Tiger did do this to himself and he knows it. Tiger thought he had all the answers and now look.

Chamblee not much of a big picture kinda guy. Seems like he enjoys speaking the 1st thing that comes to his head. (He is quick to suspect and quick to forgive)

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.

For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • btyh: “Holy offset.”
  • Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
  • bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing

Published

on

As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.

Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.
