I had an opportunity to play the South Course at Firestone CC yesterday and, as is tradition, we played the 16th from the tips - all 667 yards. I hit my tee shot into the first cut and was looking for a yardage when I saw a sprinkler head and had to take a picture and post it. Our foursome had a good chuckle over their sense of humor. Ha!

My club needs to mark a few sprinkler heads like that. If you top you tee shot and have 350 in, no need to wait for the green to clear.

I may be wrong but isn't there also a sprinkler head on that hole that says "all you got". I can't remember it's been about 10 years since I played it. What a great course!

I admit those sprinkler heads are funny...not today...in your dreams...no way...to far for you...etc, but they also drive me crazy. I know that I am not going to bust my 3W over 270 yards and hit the guys on the green in front of me, but it would be nice to know that I only need to hit it 170 to have a 100 yd lay up. 667 yards? That is a whopper of a hole.

In my last tournament there was one that said "Dream On!"

hahah thats great, a few more courses could use those for those first few sprinkler heads in front of the tee box when you totally top choke it

I worked at a course that had one of those "Just Hit It" sprinklers. The yardard was 276 with a major bend to the right. I hit so many faded 3-woods onto that green from there. While I was caddying, the members would have me drop a ball down and smack one on for their guests amusment. If you hit any sort of a high ball flight, it only played like 265. I have also seen "Yeah Right" from about 302, and a frisbee type maker that said, "You're not Tiger, hit the damn thing!" That one was about 289 out. I like them for the only fact that when I see one, I automatically drop a ball down next to it and swing my A$$ off. (Practice rounds of course) Then I pull a machismo attitude and tell all my friends to go ahead and try to knock it on from there next time they play that course. So far my records are 312 off the deck with a 3 wood, 280 with a 3-iron over a pond (severly down hill,) and a 280 yard bullet out of 4 inch cabbage with my second swing of the day and the first swing with a new 3 wood I picked up on the way to the course.

Oh, forgot...you played Firestone near Akron. If you're ever about a half hour northeast of there, you can play Fowler's Mill. They had the "You're not Tiger, hit the damn thing" on one of their par 5's.

I also played a Troon course while I was there - Blue Heron. It wasn't too bad as they had gotten some rain the day before which softened things up a bit. I had a blast going back to Ohio after 25 years and hope to get up there again soon.
