I really like the new PING bags that have school colors and logos on them, but I am at a loss for whether or not I should get one. I definitely didn't play in college and should never be considered good enough to be a D1 golfer, so I'm a little weary about getting one for fear of always getting the question "do you play for your school?"

IMO, it's kinda like getting your name on your bag if you're not a pro or going to a concert wearing a t-shirt of the band you're going to see.

Thoughts?

I was asked often here after some of the members saw my PING Hoofer Extreme Arkansas Razorback bag in my WITB.

It's all up to you I guess. I wasn't asked on the course if I played for UofA after my playing partners saw my "steller" game. rolleyes.gif

Does the UVA bag have any white in it? The Arkansas bag I had did and it was rather hard to keep clean. That and the 9 way divider that PING has since scrapped was my only complaints I had with mine.

My Vantage Army camo bag has received rave reviews since I've had it out on the course in the last couple of days.

I like the Vantage bag, however it is a tad heavy. Mainly due to the "IGotcha" warmup weight and water bottles I lug around in it. The hoofer stand mechanism is second to none. The straps are comfy too. Haven't had too many issues with the clubs getting stuck yet, however I haven't walked 18 with it either. It's been a little too warm around here for walking the past couple of days.

To me, a Ping college bag is no different than a bag with a course logo on it. I wouldn't think somebody was a poser if they were carrying a bag of my school if they didn't play. The bags they sell don't look similar at all to the actual team bags, and in many cases, including UVa, the team doesn't even carry Ping bags.

Also, as stated above, many of the bags are similar but not exaclty like the ones that the school team uses. When my sister played at UF, neither the guys nor the girls bags looked exactly like the one Ping sells. They had different logos etc. but were the same overall style. I know the same is true of the UNC bags, so I'm sure ping does it throughout the lineup, so its not exactly like being a poser.

All very good points... here's a picture of the UVA bag just for reference. My Mizuno bag is getting a little worn, and it's kind of odd that I have a Mizuno bag with only 1 Mizuno club in the bag (which may not last very long either). When I had my MP-33's it made more sense. :-)

It never even occured to me to think that someone carrying a school logo bag would have played on the school team.

I agree with the other posts. It's no different than a course or club logo. If you like the bag and you went to the school, go for it.

I'd say if you went to the school, it'd be acceptable. But I would think that it'd really weird to have people asking you about it when you didn't even go there, regardless of your golfing ability.

If you have shelled out eighty to a hundred grand, go buy the bag. You should be proud of your school. I would only get a bag if you went to the school though .

There are certain UNiversity logo bags I see that I will never think they are university affiliated, but when I see a logo'd Hoofers I almost always think they may have once played for the university. I don't this less or more of them, just get me wondering is all.

I don't see a problem with it at all, especially if you went there, as posted above, you should be proud to be a Cavalier. I know a few schools, including my team Nevada, give out PING Hoofer's that are team issue, minus the name on the left pocket, to their boosters and supporters of the program, and most of those guys can swing out of their shadow.

I go to Penn State and all the guys in the PGM (Professional Golf Management) program walk around campus with their custom Ping bags thinking they are the sh*t, when usually they all can't break 80. But I would definitely get one, if I didn't already have a nice Titleist bag.

if you go to that school, an alumni or a fan. Go For it smile.gif

I'll second that quote. Those PGM kids are obnoxious as hell.

If you went there, do it.
