Here in the Philly 'burbs, it was a dreaded "Triple-H day": Hazy, Hot, & Humid. Since this was my only day to play this week, I figured I'd suck it up and just go for it. Armed with a water bottle full of ice, my TW dri-fit shirt and hat, and my Columbia moisture-repelling shorts, I headed for my new favorite course, Jeffersonville Golf Club.

Teeing off wasn't too bad, I even hit a nice draw with my new driver to start the day. Par on a very difficult 1st hole made me think the day was going to be great.

Fast forward to hole #6, and I'm already starting to feel fatigued. Maybe not the best day to walk, but I didn't feel like paying the extra $15 for a cart, plus I need to lose a pretty decent amount of weight. But it was brutal. By #10 I was thiking about taking a break, but there was no one in front of me for two holes, and at least 2 foursomes behind me. So I soldiered on.

Now, holes #11-15 wind away from the clubhouse, and are fairly isolated. Thankfully they have water at every other hole, but I could tell my game was slipping due to fatigue when I couldn't reach a straight-ahead 190yd par-3 with a 3 wood. By this time, I knew I wouldn't finish 18, but it made sense to at least get to 16, because the green is steps away from the clubhouse. Suffice it to say, the last three holes weren't even much fun, the sun was baking me and I was trudging uphill very slowly (I still managed to catch up to the threesome in front of me, who were using carts. So much for the myth that using a buggy is faster!), and I stopped keeping score. About the only good thing that came of today's round was the knowledge that my TW shirt and TW hat are awesome for playing in heat. Neither one had a drop of sweat on 'em!

I should have just bagged it after the first nine, but I guess I'm a masochist! One thing is for sure, I really need to lose this extra 40 pounds I've put on since my son was born!

Anyone else play in the heat today? Were you adversely affected?

Yes. It was 80 degrees when I teed off at 8:30 in Virginia. By the time I got done at 12:45 it was 97 degrees with a heat index of 105. It was the hardest round I've ever played at Bristow Manor GC.

I was seeing breaks that weren't there, the greens were baked out. Everything had that weird haze to it. By the time I hit the back nine I was done. D-U-N! But like an idiot, I kept playing. I went through 4 bottles of water, but just coudn't keep hydrated and I lost my swing around hole 11. I was hitting driver well all day until that point. Then the hybrids went, then my short irons followed. At 16 I almost packed up, but had to just finish.

My Under Armor shorts and Adidas Climacool did as advertised and those Powerbands kept my feet as cool as they could. If I had walked 18, I'm sure the front would be all I could have standed.

Didn't play today, just a range session followed by work at the course.

The early morning range session was fine, I hit 180 balls and didn't feel too bad.

Then work at 2 PM. I work outside picking the range, washing carts, etc. By just doing these duties, I went through 8 20 oz bottles of water in 4 hours before it started to cool off. Extremely humid, which intensified the heat, and haze was the worst I've seen all year, could barely see 10 green from the tee box 400 yards away.

Hopefully it rains so we dump this humidity.

Today was only like 96 in Tucson. Pretty cool if you ask me.
