Just want to here some great stories. Let's here some stories.
For me I've played many rounds of golf with Michael Allen. He is on the PGA tour. We are friends from the Phoenix area. He is a great golfer. It's amazing how consistent the tour players are. Their short game is amazing. I've taken a few dollars from him. yahoo.gif yahoo.gif
Joe Peel
I played with Fuzzy Zoeller and John McHaffey in the Philippines in 1981, however, the best golfer I have ever played with was a Filipino pro named Ben Arda.
jarro
Mike Mezei.

Here in Aus earlier this year at Burleigh GC on the Gold Coast.

Mike's a Canadian player who was over here for a few events, and i caught up with him when i had a round with his mate Rob Speirs.

Nice guy with an awesome swing ... doing well on the tour over there too i believe.
Clemson656
Tiger Woods.

But I woke up before I finished the round. wink.gif

Seriously, I played with a club champion of a golf club. He's a solid golfer and he really got game. The guy who came with him even asked me if I wanted his autograph before he became famous. He told me that he would eventually turn pro. Too bad, I didn't remember his name.

A great story about my dad. Although he didn't get to tee it up, he was on the bag for Jack Nicklaus at an exhibition. This was within a couple of weeks of Jack's first Open Championship win. My dad at the time was a very strong junior golfer (set the course record at his club -62- at the age of 15). He said the one thing that amazed him about Jack was the way that he could hit his long irons. He can never tell the story without talking about how high/soft/long Jack could hit a one iron. In the end that great golfer he looped for would go on to be one of the best to ever play the game.

If somebody like that asked me if I wanted an autograph i would ask him if he wanted mine as well.

It is always a pleasure to play with great golfers. I have to put some thought into who the best i have played with was.
mjtoal
Robert Garrigus, Nationwide Tour pro at a course near San Diego. Hits a long ball.

Darren Clarke, but he was about 17 at the time. Still played off +something. Also hit a long ball.

Probably the best person I've played with was a 1-index player who works for one of my vendors.

Amazingly - this guy claims he's never taken a lesson, he only learns from watching TV, and PGA events in person. His swing is very, very sound, and he REALLY has great iron shots. I b elieve he was a collegiate baseball player, which gave him good swing fundamentals. He plays local tournaments and club championships, nothing more.

The last time we played - he shot a very very easy 73. All I recall was hard, soaring iron shots right on the green, and easy 2-putts for par, mixed in with the odd bogey or birdie here and there.

PS: I WISH I could play with better players more often. It's often said that playing with better people will help increase your game. HOwever - those folks don't seem to want to play with anybody outside their clique/group. Oh well. cray.gif
sparky12
Played with Mike Weir a few months after his Masters win at the Champion's Challenge in Utah. The course was about 7700 yards and the pros had to play from the tips while us mortals played up, thankfully. We actually had Weir for the front nine and Dean Wilson for the back. Dean was very laid back - I was impressed to see him rip a driver off the deck to get us there in two for one of the par fives.
TourPro21
chip beck... hands down best player i've ever played with... anyone who can shoot a 59 in a tour event is like GOD

I haven't played golf with anyone famous but I was once mistaken to be Steve Flesch. That is until the people that thought I was Steve came closer and said "we thought you were Steve Flesch, but we realized you weren't because you are fatter."

I didn't know whether to say "thanks" or "F*&k off".
oldpalchamp
Too many years ago, I had a friend in the Washington D.C. area who played on the tour. His name was Randy Morris, and he could really play. He was really long and could make the ball sing.

I played with Paula Creamer a few years back, when she still lived in california. Lets just say I was very impressed for a 14 year old, and wasn't surprised when I saw her name nationally ranked as an amateur

I played and beat Tiger Wood, oh, wait, that was on the XBox. I have never played with anyone famous, but probably the best golfer I have played a round with is my Wifes Uncle who was a Golf Pro at a Local Country club when he was younger.

Thanks,
tricky
played with wayne riley, an australian on the european tour. we played around sunningdale

also was hitting balls next to faldo on the range at the bmw open in munich and drew a small gallery, until I got escorted off by pga officials

I had the oppurtunity to play with Bruce Fleisher for a few holes... he belongs to the same club as my grandparents in Fla. Soo consistant....i wanna see if i can give him a run for his money this year....LOL
DemolitionMan
KascoPro. He's better than the TH guy I played with a long while ago and that guy won a major.

Agoodgolfer used to be pretty good too.

I once played in a US Jr Am qualifier in Minnesota with a really good golfer from Texas.

Otherwise, a good friend growing up was a a mini-tour player. Not the longest driver or the best putter, but he hit lots of greens. Played with him almost every other day. He was the main influence for my current infatuation with Titleist and attitude toward club appearance and performance.

As a result, I am now +2 without ever taking a lesson (unless you count the 1 golftec eval I had and 1 free lesson from the head pro when I was 13). My swing needs seriously fixing but my short game is ridiculous crazy.

Played with an ex mini tour player from Fla whos now a head pro on Ontario. His name is Mike Martz. Mike was a long drive champion years back. He says he's throttled back a ways now but still pounds the ball like 300 in the air. He also says he's a better player now then he was back in his mini tour days. Mike is prob the only guy I ever saw finish the swing with his left foot flat on the ground. BTW, he's right handed. His left foot doesn't have that roll over towards the target that you see on most.

Best swings of all I played with Snead and Wright. Never could swing Hogan or Nelson.

My late Dad.

He didn't take the game up until he was 35 but could he get a ball round a golf course. He got down to a 2 handicap. His swing wasn't the greatest.

Had he taken the game up in his youth, he'd have made it big time... more mental resolve and course management than Woods or anybody else I've seen

Given the choice of playing on Tour with a lifetime exemption or just a single nine holes with my Dad tomorrow......

No brainer!

Me old Pops every time!

I guess i have three people that I play with on a regular basis. One of my business Partners is a scratch golfer and I also play with two club pro that are very good.

I've never played with any touring pro's

The most famous people I have golfed with are a few of the Detroit Redwings that used to come here as fund raiser for local groups. Lots of fun and some are very good. Joe Kocur is a scratch golfer.

I'll give you Two. (Besides KascoPro who is good)

Ray Pelligrini - 3 time Olympic Club Champ

Played junior golf with Johnny Miller and played on a Walker Cup Team

Ray was working for Pepsico when he and I went around at the "O" club.

Let's just say I have the $5 I took off him framed on my office wall!!!

Wow, that is a tough question.....hmmmmm....

Well, I would have to say 2 different guy's.......Daly and Couples......played with Fred several times during my freshman year in college....then Daly many, many time during the late 80's......BOTH could do thing swith a golf ball that I couldnt even IMAGINE....much less hit! Very similar in most respects too.......both played like a kid......bust it.....go find it.....bust it again......both had lil' or no idea how they swung a golf club.......100% "feel"......both had tremendous strength and hit the ball a TON....(obviously).....the thing that struck me most about both of them was a TOTAL lack of "fear"......0.....none......they both SEEMINGLY play golf without any anxiety.......GREAT asset to have in our game........I was riddled with it......hehehe

Others.....Bill Rogers, Fuzzy Zoeller, Peter Jacobsen, Miller Barber, Tom Lehman, Blaine McCallister, Joel Edwards, Mike Standly, Steve Elkington, Billy Ray Brown, Pete Jordan, Bob Tway, Willie Wood, Brandel Chamblee, Mark Brooks, Bruce Lietzke, Dave Stockton Jr. and Sr., Lee Janzen, Rod Curl, Homero Blancas, Keith Fergus, Ed Fiori, Marty Fleckman, Justin Leonard, Tommy Armour III, Danny Briggs, Babe Hiskey, Phil Blackmar, Olin Browne, Jeff Maggert, Jon Reigger, Vance Hefner, David Toms.......I guess you play enough competitive golf over a bunch of years you get to be in the right place at the right time quite a bit...........jeez.......many, many more......
chesterrc
i didnt PLAY with them, but i was a standard bearer for Brad Bryant, Dave Stockton, Andy Bean, Howard Twitty, Jim Albus, and Mike Sullivan. smile.gif

For me it would be a past club champion from my club. I've never seen someone hit the ball soo short off the tee and then throw darts at the pin with a 5 wood. He made every putt from 10 feet and in the whole day. It was amazing to watch. He qualified for the Senior US Open a few years ago and missed the cut by quiet a few. Makes you think about how good those guys are that play on Sunday every week.

Knew Hale Irwin for years from his Colorado University football days

Also played with tons of celebrities like Martin and Lewis but those weren't really very good golfers.

Craig Stadler in 1970 or 71, U. CA, Irvine vs. USC--he hasn't changed much.

Paul Harney after he retired from the tour in 1964--nice guy and great player.

Johnny Miller in the CA Jr. State Championship at Olympic Club--he was several years younger than I and cleaned my clock--best iron player I've ever seen.

George Archer in 1962.
jzatl04
Best I've played with is Dan Woltman, a freshman at Kentucky. We were high school teammates so I had the opportunity to play with him in practice quite a bit. Hits the ball straight as an arrow and his putting is just incredible. Judging by the year he's having so far at UK, he could go pretty far in this game.

Lou Graham-75(?) U.S. Open Winner, I played with him several times in the late 70's. I work at the country club he was a member at.

Kenny Perry.

Several times with two time Club Pro Championship champion, Tim Thelen. He was one of the few that have won that tournament twice.

He just got back from the K Club in Ireland for the PGA Cup where unfortunately the US Team lost to GB&I. However, he said that words cannot describe how great that place is. Can't wait for the 2006 Ryder Cup when it is played there.

Tim is going to qualifying school next week. I ran into him at one of the local courses here in Houston where he works, Old Orchard G.C.

He can really go low on occasion and hits it a mile. I was in awe everytime I got to play with him..

Mark James is the only top tier player I've ever played with and I hope he'll forgive me for thinking that my old teacher and club pro Leo Feeney might have been a better golfer. I didn't play with Leo often, but I did caddy for him regularly and occasionally helped him gear up for a tournament, catching wedge shots on the range etc.. Life as a touring pro was obviously an option for Leo, but with a wife and many children to look after, he chose the life of a club pro. He was arguably the best teacher and golfer in Derbyshire for a very long time, not long enough. He died tragically in a car accident in Ireland in the late 1970's. His son Jimmy has had an excellent amateur career. My favourite memory of Leo is on the uphill 15th at our club - Chapel-en-le-frith (nothing to write home about, but that was wherer we lived) - the stroke 1 hole. Playing with the members, Leo never hit his drives as far as he was able (it took me a while to figure this out, he could hit the Dunlop Maxfli driver anywhere from 215 to 270), so he was in the right hand rough about 200 yards out, uphill. He asks for his driver, chokes down a little and hits a punch shot. I'm not making this up. I've never seen anyone since hit a driver out of the rough.
MorningCalm
Best player I played with, never against..lol, was my friend Steve Dietz. He was a collegiate baseball player and prolly the reason he had such great fundamentals. He played for the longest time these really, really, old Cleveland blades..but man could he hit. He had such a great short game too..either a one putt or always a two. He was the definition of a true gamer. When he drove the ball it was just a pleasure to see. I realize how the pro's must play.

I played a few holes with him in 1996 when he was trying Oakland Hills out for that years Open. If I remember correctly he was an amateur then. I think he came in 16 strokes behind Steve Jones. He shot a 69 in the second round to make the cut. There was no crowd following him then.

The other two times were in pro ams before tournaments. Nice guy who goes out of his way to make the others in the group feel comfortable. He comes across as a very introverted person who really has to make an effort in public. I think he is a very very private person who is in a very public sport. Like most all of the pros he also does his homework on who he is playing with so he is aware of "leaders of industry" that might be in his group. Nothing really jaw dropping happened golf wise. Pretty typical pro am golf. Since I've seen him play maybe 60+ times since he turned pro I didn't see anything I hadn't seem before. Since I play to a 1 now, played for a big ten team (winning), and have played in many amateur tournaments all over the world I didn't "clock" anyone in the gallery like others in the group did clapping.gif

Tiger Woods when we were in junior golf.

Billy Mayfair is the other. I was about 15 years of age and had an absolute great time. Played every year with him for about 3 years when teh Bellsouth Atlanta Classic was played at Atlanta Country Club. biggrin.gif
KascoPro
I played a match with Andy North, Steve Stricker, and Mario Tiziani at PGA West. We threw balls on the first tee for partners, and Mario and I played Steve and Andy. We won the front they won the back and the total.
I have played with lots of tour players, but that was the fun I ever had being that I am also from Wisconsin.

My top three are: 1981 British Open champ Bill Rogers (who, in a friendly Sunday afternoon match shortly after he'd won The Open, hit a persimmon 3-wood to ten feet on the last hole, made the eagle putt, and kindly took our money); PGA tour pro Blaine McCallister (who took bucks from Slicefixer and I when Blaine and his 13 year-old partner went eagle/hole-in-one on two consecutive holes right after we pressed the bet); and Slicefixer himself, when he was a freshman at Univ of Houston and drove it as straight as the Funkster. (Slicefixer and I were high-school teammates. Now we are old farts, exchanging emails about the good ol' days from 1000 miles away).

Love the site here.
