Our company is taking a group of managers to LV for a weekend and will host a round of golf. We're staying at the Wynn but considering the cost/value, is playing the Wynn going to be better/more enjoyable for the varied handicaps that say, playing Wolf Creek? There will be around 6-8 golfers.

I'm sure one of the LV locals will chime in on this, but it's my understanding the Wynn is riduculously expensive to play. If it's on the company it might be cool just to say you played it.
I was in LV recently, and had a chance to play two nice tracks...Revere at Anthem and Red Rock C.C.
Revere is a brute. Its on the top of a mountain and the wind was blowing about 40 mph...pretty tough. Course was crowded and I saw a lot of double digit hdcp players and it didn't look like they were having much fun. Nice place and in good shape when I was there.
For a group like yours I would recommend Red Rock C.C. Very nice spot. It's out of town a little, right accross the street from Red Rock Station Casino, but IMO worth the drive. It's a straightforward Palmer design. Not a lot of trickyness, you pretty much get what you see. Absolutley immaculate condition....best greens I've putted all year. Very undulating and big, super slick too. Several sets of tees to accomadate all skill levels, and they are positioned so it's not a big deal if someone wants to play shorter or longer set of tees. It's a very pretty course, I liked it a lot and would definately go back.
Might be a nice little road trip for your group to play Red Rock, then rally accross the street at the Red Rock Station for a couple drinks and a bite to eat. Prices there are very reasonable for everything.
Have Fun and Good Luck! OUT....

I cannot comment on the Wynn but Wolf Creek is a difficult course (slope 150+) that may frustrate mid-high handicap golfers. Additionally, it is 50+ minutes from the strip and a very boring drive at that. I would recommend The Falls or Reflection Bay at Lake Las Vegas. Dragon Ridge in Henderson is also fun.

If the company wants to pony up $500/each player, let me know where to send my resume, LOL.
I haven't played Wynn, if I'm going to pay that much I'll drive over to Reflection Bay which is among the finest courses in Vegas.
Wolf Creek is fantastic, while SanDiego Sam is correct about the drive, the speed limit goes up to 75 mph so the hour goes by quickly. The course makes you think about what club to pull, and the views are breathtaking. However, you must budget a 5-hour minimum round just because of the changing elevation between tee and green.
Revere at Anthem is a great course as well, what makes Vegas golf challenging is that after 12 noon the winds pick up everywhere so conditions will be better in the morning versus the afternoon. Revere has elevated tee boxes and some decent views. Not too far a drive from the strip.
A lot of people recommend the Paiute courses. (I haven't played them yet). I just joined Silverstone which has the longest hole in Nevada and is 27 holes.
Hope this helps

update Dragon Ridge is now a private club and Reflection Bay will be closing for renovation during the summer. the wynn is way overpriced the best golfing experience is Primm Valley about 25 min out of town there are 36 Tom Fazio design golf courses, technically they are located one mile inside the california border due to the fact that Fazio had an agreement with Steve Wynn not to build another golf course in Nevada after he built Shadow Creek , the Wynn golf course is a Fazio re design of the old Desert Inn...

I live in Las Vegas and I agree with the other posters.
Siena GC and Arroyo GC at Red Rock C.C. are very nice courses with reasonable price, Bear's Best is also nice. All 3 of these courses are less than 2 miles away from each other South Summerlin.
Silverstone GC is located in North Las Vegas.
Angel Park, Badlands, and TPC Canyons are located across the street from each other in Summerlin.
Good Luck and have fun!

CASCATA at Boulder City.If the $ 400 fee is O.K.
Phenomenal course with extreme elevation changes & great views.
Great clubhouse with a stream running right down the middle of it.

I was going to recommend Cascata if they were staying at a Harrah's casino establishment.

Sorry to bump up a thread that died a few days ago. I'm looking to take a trip to Vegas this summer and would like to try to play Wolf Creek. I'm not very good, but I can deal with courses getting the better of me. I don't really want to rent a car just to drive out there one day for golf and was wondering if there is any sort of public trans. out that way?

Unfortunately, the answer is no. Once you get out of North Las Vegas past the speedway, it becomes nothing but desert for miles. Your best bet is to find a cheap rental car that has unlimited miles which Vegas has plenty of in stock. If you go, make sure you take a camera. It's definately worth the trip.

If you can play Bali for around $65 do it, but if it's more than $150 it's not worth it. The course looks cool, because of it's location and everything, but it's nothing too spectacular, definitely not worth the $300 normal rate they charge.

How much $$ would it approx be to go with a taxi from the strip to Wolf Creek??
THANKS

It would be a lot, taxis in Las Vegas are ridiculous. I got one from the Airport to my house once and my house is about 13 or 14 miles away and it was over 60 bucks. Wolf Creek is a good 50 minutes away, if you wan to play Wolf Creek that bad, I would definitely rent a car for the day.

It will be more than double what you will pay for the round itself. Plenty of rental car deals in Vegas, I rented a mini-van last month and it was $333 for 7 days.

ok, that's certainly crazy, than a rental car it will be.
Altough i'm from Europe and i don't like to drive in another country with unfamiliar cars etc...
Will it be necessary to reservate the car in advance?
I'm will go in december and will stay specially at the Bellagio to play also at Shadow Creek.
I know the golf will cost me a lot of money but worked hard for it ;-)
Thanks for the info.

It won't be necessary to reserve the car, but it doesn't hurt to reserve it in advance. The rental car facility is bigger than some smaller airports so there are hundreds of cars available at any time. The good thing is that if you're going in December, it won't be too busy for the first couple of weeks. If you need a playing partner, send me a PM as I'll be living out there.
Great choices on Bellagio and Shadow Creek. You'll definately spend some bucks, but it will be worth it.

Thanks for all the advice.
I'm looking to reservate a rental car at www.dollar.com
What's the weather like to play golf in the end of december in Vegas?
Is it cold or windy? I suspect there's no rain in the desert?
Can i play in shorts and a polo?
I live 8500 miles further so i don't have any clue ;-)
